New Pejac painting : Hamelin, by Black Apple Art on Feb 22, 2017 20:08:09 GMT 1, One truly amazing talent that checks all the boxes IMO and his recent first solo was the best thing I saw all year. Truly talented with a vast range of work from paintings and sculptures to photography and etchings. Powerful, thought provoking and site specific works. Bulk of his work being outside free for all to enjoy. Very limited amount of works sold.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by Black Apple Art on Feb 20, 2017 21:11:38 GMT 1, Covered this a few times but will repeat because improper framing and or mounting can be a killer and often is. For me there are two acceptable ways to frame a print:
1) Archival corners - These corners hold the print in place with zero adhesives at all. I always use this method when I want to mat. The mat covers the corners and and I have it raised up off of the print (using a second thicker or double layer mat offset behind it) so there is zero contact. As mentioned, even archival mats can cause unwanted damage to prints when in contact with the print over extended periods of time including denting, impression of the mat edge on the print and very often discoloration from black or colored mats.
2) Paper or Japanese Hinges: This is how I have most of my prints framed and as most already know involves a archival paper hinge using wheat or rice paste to fasten the print to the hinge which can be mounted directly to board backing or threaded through a slot in the board and fastened to the back of it for easier removal.
I'd also be very cautious of the term "Floating" as it has many meanings to different framers and for this reason the term should just not be used unless you and your framer have a complete understanding of their definition of "floating". For many framers this involves raising the print off of the mounting board or backing using several adhesive posts. In almost every instance I have seen this, the adhesives were NOT archival or fully reversible and resulted in damage, not to mention deforming the print from the non uniform posts raising the print in selected spots and not over the entire back of the print area. There are many ways to avoid this but just require a bit more work. One is to have the actual mount board inset from the print area a bit and then have this raised up and mounted to your desired color backing. For me personally I just use the method above in step #2 and have the hinges on the upper portion of the print so it hangs a bit over the backing and still gives a slight "floating" effect.
Note: Lineco makes a few water based and pressure sensitive mounting products that are also archival and fully reversible. I know a few top people using these as well and have had no issues.
With all the processes above I always use Tru Vue Optium Museum Acrylic which protects 99% of UV and drastically reduces glare and reflections. If the Museum is over the budget I'd go with the Optium Acrylic or an equivalent that gives at least 93% protection or if glass doesn't worry you, the Optium Conservation Clear Glass.

The New Rijksmuseum
Amazing documentary and found it fascinating what goes into such an ambitious undertaking that took over 10 years.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Black Apple Art on Feb 17, 2017 18:11:33 GMT 1, I was offered one of these probably 3 years ago at 13k, probably doesn't help you much, but I do regret it! Definitely great piece but I do have to agree the signature is very suspect. All signed versions I have seen had print areas under the lower white border where they were signed and the few I have seen trimmed this and other ways were not signed at all. Given how sloppy this signature is and that it is signed within the border area, I'd guess someone had a go at signing it other than Mr B. Here's a few to compare with.

Banksy Toxic Mary, Virgin Mary Print, by Black Apple Art on Feb 16, 2017 18:19:38 GMT 1, Never understood why this has always been one of the less desirable Banksys. They look great framed up. Always thought this was an easy one in that there's a good portion of the planet that holds their religion dear to them and might take offense to anyone pointing out it's flaws. Take CWSB for instance. Great image and incredibly low signed edition of 82, yet commands less than most other signed pieces with 3-5X the edition size. Definitely great opportunity for those who love these images as I do.

Banksy Print are getting even Rarer , by Black Apple Art on Feb 16, 2017 4:35:48 GMT 1, With no new Banksy prints being released for so long, the number of prints must be ever decreasing ever day as pieces get framed badly, damaged, lost. And the number of Banksy Prints available for sale I guess is decreasing also as more find permanent homes or go into storage as part of gallery or investment collections. I would say the more recent prints have been better taken care of, so maybe out of 100 prints, maybe 90 still exist in good condition. But for Banksy's early prints I would wonder if less than 50 out of 100 still exist, what do you think? From all I have seen I'd say much less than 50% all the way up to FC and definitely less than 90% from there. Even with the major change in price % wise, I've seen countless S&S, Nolas and CYWs completely ruined by framers as well. There's one the sticks in my mind...Was a local collector a few years a ago who had a white Nola and wanted to sell it. I met up with him and agreed on price ( about $18k back then) but told him I'd have to open the frame and inspect it before closing the deal. The piece ended up being spray mounted by an out of state framer before he moved. I was floored and felt horrible telling explaining to him. He had a morons he was keeping and that was ruined as well. Just horrible.

The Best Film Ever, by Black Apple Art on Feb 15, 2017 8:02:46 GMT 1, Watched it with my 7 years old kid who plays drum. We have a good laugh !! Every time with speak about or mention tempo, we can't resist, lot of "fucks" and annoying "not on tempo" are thrown !! About musical movie, I enjoyed the one about Mile Davis, fictional though (Miles Ahead). The Janis documentary (Little Blue Girl ?) isn't bad but documentary tend to suck a bit. The Zappa (eat that question) is OK for people unknown to Zappa character. And if someone has "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T" by the great Dr Seuss, kindly share it ! Cheers While we're are on music , I thought Born to be Blue was great as well.

Rolex Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by Black Apple Art on Feb 1, 2017 20:39:12 GMT 1, FYI There are quite a few new SD4000s available here in the states for around $7k, so looking for a signed B print seems a bit ambitious. Great watch though. I have had a sea dweller for over 15 years and it's an absolute tank. As with most Banksy searches, for the best results I'd sell your watch first and then work towards an all cash purchase. Good luck.

Bad dealing tab tab, by Black Apple Art on Jan 23, 2017 4:20:23 GMT 1, If that was the case here, first thing to do would be to return the declaration form and chase the package. If you are not at home, would'nt be to hard to prove that these days๐ Everyone should use PVC plumbers pipe if sending expensive prints virtually indestructible and the weight difference is minimal, a truck could run over it and all would be fine. I have found most damaged prints are done so when being packed especially if its more than one print. Most around my way have cameras at their front and back doors. It certainly seems to keep the postie doing the right thing. A friend has a door bell that has a camera in it and when someone rings it goes to your phone or iPad so you can see who it is and then speak to them if need be. You can't even have a pee in someones garden walking home from the pub these days with out ending up on camera which more often than not leads to FaceBook with the person asking does anyone know this person as the bastard has just killed my prized daffodils. IMO PVC is a far distant second best to Flat Packing for high value prints. Rolled prints expose the piece to numerous hazards including: damage while bring rolled, inserted or removed from the tube or the most common, edge damage, either in transit or in any of the above actions which can happen regardless of the tube material. There are great ways to immobilize a print while in the tube but non are 100% and it always leave a margin for error when the recipient is removing it. Also if the print as been flat or framed for some time, just rolling it alone could cause damage such as cracking and other unpredictable deformities. In all my experience it's just not worth the risk using a tube for what amounts to a small negligible savings when compared to the value of the art. I always have my "high value" prints flat packed and when I am the receiving party and the sender wants to tube it, I have it collected and packed properly at my cost. Worth every penny for peace of mind.

Ron English Print ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by Black Apple Art on Jan 19, 2017 22:00:00 GMT 1, Thanks @elviswarhol , unfortunately not everyone is thinking the same Ron English is about as pop art American iconic as one can get these days. Peter Max was affordable too untill his prices shot up. Actually like Max and his history, he'll be 80 this year! One of the first piece of art I ever bought but sadly no place to hang it now.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Black Apple Art on Jan 9, 2017 10:26:59 GMT 1, Any idea on current market rate for signed Toxic Mary and Colour Trolley Hunters? I am thinking about selling and would hope to receive ยฃ20,000 from both sales. I'm curious to know if the forum thinks that I'd be asking too much or too little. Thank you in advance. You should have no problem achieving that and will probably exceed it depending on condition and COA status.

banksy original no commission for sale , by Black Apple Art on Jan 6, 2017 0:11:22 GMT 1, I have no horse in this race . But I am curious .. has it been fully substantiated that 'it is well known as a cheap stunt for publicity'. The players involved in that show don't seem to be the type for that .. Bacardi? Swizz? Other celebs? Other well known artists .. etc . Unless it was just some attendee that snuck them in and then it's not a publicity stunt . Anyway . Just curious if anyone took responsibility and it was a fact that this is / was an orchestrated part of the show . There is actually an team of investigators that have this matter queued up next after they rule on the authenticity of this Virgin Mary on a grilled cheese that was submitted.

Art valuation for insurance , by Black Apple Art on Dec 25, 2016 21:53:46 GMT 1, Any reco's on a company that will issue a blanket policy like that? I use AXA Art / Minico for this type of coverage. They are very easy to work with. My policy is with Lloyds and happy to refer anyone just shoot me a PM. The policy also covers the work in transit which is a huge additional benefit.

Art valuation for insurance , by Black Apple Art on Dec 25, 2016 20:56:16 GMT 1, Not sure where to post this... I have a collection of art and wanted to find out how I can get it officially valued If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be greatful Reposting my older response below from a similar question :
I know there are several ways of insuring art but have found the best coverage for protecting your true value for a total collection is having a blanket policy for a set amount of total coverage. Then at the time of a loss each claimed piece is dealt with on it's own to establish market value or replacement cost at time time of loss. Especially with Banksy, it never does you justice to insure at the current or even slightly over the current replacement cost as you will have no idea what that cost will be at the time of a loss and it is just futile to have to worry about constantly submitting itemized price estimates and relying on threads like this for you pieces to keep up to date. Just an opinion and have had many good friends do that same that are very happy with this system.

I have a collection of art and wanted to find out how I can get it officially valued If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be greatful Reposting my older response below from a similar question : I know there are several ways of insuring art but have found the best coverage for protecting your true value for a total collection is having a blanket policy for a set amount of total coverage. Read more: urbanartassociation.com/posts/recent#ixzz4TsiKPivD
