shady Banksy prints onsale now on new website, by mlocks on Aug 21, 2015 17:03:16 GMT 1, As if there weren't enough evidence already that one way or the other this is a total farce, apparently you can order as many prints as you want. ย 10,000 prints? No problem.
I'll probably have to wait, 10,000 prints could take a little longer.

shady Banksy prints onsale now on new website, by mlocks on Aug 20, 2015 3:03:04 GMT 1, The store seems to have packed up. "HTTP Error 504: Gateway Timeout The server, while acting as a gateway or proxy, did not receive a timely response from the upstream server it accessed in attempting to complete the request." Indeed. At the exact same moment the show information was released. Take that for what you will.

..., by mlocks on Aug 19, 2015 23:50:09 GMT 1, since this is so easy to sell its scary.. i am not going to feel too bad in hijacking the thread with a question. Why is Pest Control 'busy' there hasnt been a release in like 5 years. there surely cant be more than a few dozen banksy prints changing hands a day. They get paid handsomely for each print. they have made it so you cannot sell a print without their input.. and then they hold you up for months at a time for said input. it cant take more than an hour to authenticate and they get a good price. hire some art interns and get it done. or does someone really know why they are always 'behind' or slow ?? Response times seem to be getting slower and slower. My theory is that he's gradually phasing out the issuance of new PC certs and then it's just a matter time until the verification service stops entirely.
Nothing lasts forever.

Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, by mlocks on Aug 18, 2015 14:07:13 GMT 1, One of coolest videos I've seen to anounce a line-up! Only primavera sound makes something as cool as that I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this point. Perhaps our differences in views are down to a cultural divide, our respective reference points. In the UK, one of most egregious crimes you can commit is to come across as if you're trying too hard (as distinct from trying hard). It's the reason why Victoria Beckham was derided for so many years by the Brits. She has only recently started to earn some people's respect, with age, a greater serenity and her clothing line. Compare that to someone like Kate Moss, whose style appears both natural and effortless, and who has pretty much always been warmly embraced by the public. This Life is Beautiful promo video is to me the work of a try-hard, or of too many chefs. All I can see is naffness: over-polished, overproduced contrivance, with as many gimmicky camera techniques as possible shoehorned in. It feels rather desperate โ desperation being the antithesis of cool. That said, it's always both a pleasure and challenging to hear opinions so diametrically opposed to my own. To each of your points:
1) Yes, there is a very real cultural divide that likely explains some of the disconnect.
2) The event comprises a music festival, culinary festival, learning series AND an art show that will encompass 11 city blocks and most of downtown Las Vegas, so from a literal perspective I think the promo is spot on in conveying the size, scope and energy of the experience. I don't view this as "trying too hard" so much as trying to do it big and bold in order to create some excitement around the music lineup (since most attendees will likely be there to enjoy the music and not specifically just for the art). To my mind a better example of "trying too hard" would be attempting to compare Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss in twisted metaphor that in no way explains the reasons behind your thinly-veiled and oddly deep seeded contempt for this particular show.
3) This is Vegas. Those with a strong distaste for things that are aesthetically pleasing yet coming across as superficial, glossy, gimmicky or contrived would be well advised to avoid having anything to do with the city whatsoever. On the other hand, given the nature of the venue, it is conceivable that any such perceived contrivance may actually be purposeful on the part of the artist and that you are missing the point entirely. Although your psyche is clearly more evolved and thus able to quickly determine what is cool and what is desperation - desperation being the antithesis of cool - I fear that if you try to understand what goes on in the desert it may result in bouts of paranoid and self doubt, which of course will lead to desperation and ultimately, not without some degree of irony, the fate of forever being labeled as uncool.
4) I agree with part of your last comment in that much of the art in this particular video seems disjointed as a result of having "too many chefs" in the kitchen. My guess is that this is because most of the work was performed by a collective of local artists from Las Vegas, as opposed to the actual headliners that will be attending the festival. I would also venture to guess that the collective artwork of 1010, Borondo, D*Face, ROA and several others will quite a bit better than this promo video.

Changes to the Guidelines and Rules on Sales Threads, by mlocks on Aug 18, 2015 9:00:43 GMT 1, I really think this is a shame and will mean less opportunities for forum members, especially with Banksy prints. I have sold, bought and traded art via the forum more times than I have posted. I have even helped some long term members achieve their holy grail. I have sold (via pm) on the forum because I wanted my prints to go to a good home and because I couldn't be arsed with eBay, often selling at a lower price. In fact, I have met more forum members than posts. The people who bought early on don't want to post 50 times for your approval so you're just directing them elsewhere - but I suppose there are plenty of fresh Banksy prints out there?
I understand the need to cut down on scammers and people that are simply too lazy to provide even the most basic of details regarding a sale, but the negative consequences of imposing an arbitrary posting requirement seems likely to outweigh any perceived benefit, especially for those looking to purchase Banksy prints at a reasonable price point relative to gallery pricing. In other words, scammers gunna scam, lazy be lazy, and the more casually involved members will look elsewhere when they need a quick sale on one of their Banksy pieces. If elimination of garbage sales threads is the end goal the better policy would seem to be simply tightening up the sales thread policy (i.e. automatic removal of threads that don't strictly conform to the requirements stated above). If you disagree with me please explain your reasons in detail so I can debate you until I hit 50 posts. Cheers.

Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, by mlocks on Aug 14, 2015 8:41:28 GMT 1, I'm definitely driving out from L.A. for this one.
"Sounds like big trouble. You're going to need plenty of legal advice before this thing is over. As your attorney, I advise you to rent a very fast car with no top. And you'll need the cocaine. Tape recorder for special music. Acapulco shirts. Get the hell out of L.A. for at least 48 hours. Blows my weekend."

Your latest Art Purchase?, by mlocks on Jul 23, 2015 0:51:41 GMT 1,
Very nice and excellent back-story. I would be inclined to keep it on the cardboard and get it all framed - split the cardboard corners so it will flatten. If you removed it you have the tape to contend with - it could come off but probably been there so long it will leave something behind - or take some of the image with it!! For me, leaving it on the box gives it a level of authenticity without which it is just another PP / backdoor. This for me has some legitimacy as even though unsigned un-numbered was clearly used by the artist for a specific purpose and therefore is part of the Banksy story I agree with 11. That's whet I would do. Keeps it's uniqueness. As a seperate issue, I wonder whether PC would give a cert. whilst it's not numbered, it's not a backdoor not a gift from the artist. Anyone got any views on that? Thank you for the suggestions. I'm definitely going to keep it intact and hopefully my framer will have some creative ideas about the best way to go about hanging this. Submitting for the PC cert is also an interesting idea. Although I don't ever see myself letting this one go, it would certainly be a nice thing to have in case it's ever lost or stolen. Thanks again for your input.
