Banksy & Ken Livingstone, by mike hunt on Apr 24, 2008 11:09:51 GMT 1, There's not much choice for me. I despise Ken but Boris isn't really a viable alternative either - I can't believe thats the best the tories could offer when there are so many who don't want Ken in. If i vote for Boris it is a protest vote against Ken.

Nick Walker Phenomenon, by mike hunt on Apr 22, 2008 10:17:05 GMT 1, yea his prices have jumped but good luck to him. His recent work is amazing and it seems to be a response to that. Its really captured peoples imagination. I find his old work very hit and miss and I've never bought anything of his, but he's been around for ages and no-one should begrudge him success.

Banksy Hong Kong Exhibition, by mike hunt on Apr 17, 2008 23:05:13 GMT 1,
I think the pick of the analysis of Banksys work from that link is: "Banksy?! Unless he's deliberately getting himself pregnant and then deliberately having a miscarriage all over his work, I'm not buying it."

D*FACE, by mike hunt on Apr 14, 2008 17:27:44 GMT 1, This is a ridiculous argument - anyone can pick up a paintbrush and call themselves an artist as well - paintbrushes are quite easy to get hold of! Before computers there were loads of mediocre, unoriginal artists who used paintbrushes. I'm glad that technology has made art accessible. There will always be crap art, computers or no computers. Without computers, would the streetart scene have thrived so much? This argument about designer or artists is so old. Warhol did it first so its nothing new or revolutionary.

A moment of your time please, Art or Torture?, by mike hunt on Apr 14, 2008 13:45:15 GMT 1, What an asshole this 'artist' is. To contribute to a problem in order to highlight it and reduce it - idiot. I don't believe in torture, but I won't torture someone to highlight the problem. This artist is a warped, deluded p*ick - he deserves a slap.

D*FACE, by mike hunt on Apr 14, 2008 13:40:51 GMT 1, For me its not how you do it - its the result that counts. An artist doesn't have to use (or not use) specific tools/techniques to create art. It wasn't too long ago that many considered stencil techniques not to be art. Street art has changed what people precieve as art, and this will continue to change.

Conor Harrington, by mike hunt on Mar 4, 2008 23:25:57 GMT 1, This is too much for a print by a young artist. I'll be voting with my feet (er, wallet in this case). At least the edition size is low(ish) Too much?? Its ยฃ400 cheaper than his last print.
Holy crap!!!
It is a great image though and its always worth buying a print you want if you like it and can spare the cash.

matt small-this is england, by mike hunt on Nov 9, 2007 20:34:38 GMT 1, What I mean is Conor doesn't just do headshots and uses different scenarios which means his subject matter is a bit more varied. In terms of mark making, Matt Small is streets ahead.
connor harrington does more by....using beefy botham ..honestly think conor doesn't touch matt ...but each to his own

matt small-this is england, by mike hunt on Nov 9, 2007 19:48:00 GMT 1, Firstly I hate it when city boys make art lovers feel unwelcome. I bumped into someone from school who became a city boy - the tosser said 'I didn't know you were into this kind of thing', which was really stupid, because at school it was all I did. I worked hard to build a career in art/design. He is a sneering, lying idiot with no clue. Rant over
Secondly, i love matt small's technique. It is awesome. Dynamic style with lots of emotion in the subject and mark making. However, I've been itching to see what he was going to do next, because the portrait thing can get tiresome. Conor Harrington uses more elements, so its not so much of a problem. I do worry that Matt needs to do something dramatically different. That said, the photos posted above look stunning. Congratulations.

Ghetto in Miami, by mike hunt on Nov 28, 2007 17:01:58 GMT 1, Santa's Ghetto will be held in Miami this year at the same time as the fair. Banksy will have work up and will be selling the last print he will ever sell at a buyable price. You have the same IP as TheArtNewspaper
haha - he's been sprung! Must be a serious lack of news in the art world. This revelation throws up a host of possible new headlines of course...

Travel to the Ghetto... an alternative route..., by mike hunt on Dec 4, 2007 0:21:59 GMT 1, What are people's thoughts on traveling in through Jordan rather than Israel? Any positives / negatives to this?
If you want a holiday, then its a fantastic idea. If you're looking for an easy way to get to bethlehem, then its a terrible idea!!

SANTAS GHETTO/BETHLEHEM TIPS, by mike hunt on Dec 3, 2007 14:26:35 GMT 1,
The problem is if you want to go back to an Arab country more then getting in to Palestine. Most Arab countries like Saudi will not let people in if they have a Israel stamp in the passport. [/quote]
true - alot of Arab countries will not allow you in with israel on your passport. And yes, it does snow in jerusalem in winter and yes, security will be tough, but at least you'll feel safe when you fly (unlike most other flights) or feel that your bus has a chance of not being blown up.
And remember - beards = fanaticism (that part is a joke, but now I think about it...)

Santas Ghetto : art discussion, by mike hunt on Dec 4, 2007 11:33:25 GMT 1, Im really licking Banksy's Dove
ooer! I really hope that is a typo, not live commentary. That would be more controversial than all the art.

Back from the Ghetto, by mike hunt on Dec 10, 2007 23:14:53 GMT 1, Jesus was more than a prophet, he was allegedly, the King of the Jews, but the Jews were the ones who sent Jesus to be crucified.
So, jews imprison the palestinian race (which if they are a race would involve imprisoning Jordanian people amongst others) and now they've killed Jesus (known as god in western circles). Murdering god? You don't get much worse than that! This sounds like hating to me, above and beyond the call of duty. Okay, you don't like Israel. Thats one thing, but I think you crossed the line into some medieval argument here. I think its getting out of order and I'm sure I'll get negged and shouted down for this, but thats to be expected.

Back from the Ghetto, by mike hunt on Dec 10, 2007 20:05:18 GMT 1, Do you think having a military ID from a western country, say the US or the UK would help or hurt your progress?
definitely help if its real! If its fake and you get caught, then definitely hurt!

Back from the Ghetto, by mike hunt on Dec 10, 2007 19:08:32 GMT 1, I don't understand why people seem to have a problem with the high security at the airport going to and from Israel. Given the hijackings, 9/11 etc why wouldn't you be happy that the security is so tight? It means you are as safe as you can be when flying to and from an area where security is a huge issue. If I was flying to or from Israel, and the security wasn't tight as hell, I'd be very afraid. My advice - be prepared to be cross-examined and don't take it personally - be grateful that people are taking your safety so seriously.
