Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by damo on Sept 19, 2017 18:36:21 GMT 1, Walked past this a few times today, including the last few minutes. There has been a constant, and very diverse, crowd taking pics, etc. Security man estimated total so far at circa 3,000. I'm struggling to think of anyone (there isn't anyone) that could achieve that off street work. Really has reminded me of Banksys reach, and whilst I don't think popularity always equals quality you have to assume he's now reached a level where he'll still be discussed in 50 years, akin to Warhol. Not news I accept, but a good reminder.

Banksy in the Daily Mail, by damo on Sept 17, 2017 22:35:46 GMT 1, Im not suggesting anything (and its not like many others haven't been hugely influenced by him) but for those looking to further fuel any conspiracy theories...
www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2013/oct/14/jean-michel-basquiat-street-art-massive-attack
B using his own work to (quite brilliantly imo) help promote the Barbican show does suggest he's also a huge fan, albeit any artistic influence is far less evident in Banksy's work.....

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by damo on Sept 13, 2017 18:11:37 GMT 1, Said it before but our trip to Palestine (driven by The Walled Off) was one of the best experiences I've ever had. It was educational (and some) and something I'll never forget. I have found these threads the last week or so quite depressing. I understand the desire to buy anything Banksy related for investment but sometimes the payback on life experience is ten fold. If you want to expand your thinking, and can afford the flights, get out there. If you pick something up, great, but if you learn anything about the plight of/the strength of/the friendly side of, the Palestinians, you'll return richer. Trust me.

Overseas sales, by damo on Sept 4, 2017 10:54:38 GMT 1, I'm looking to sell my Invader RVE and have recieved what feels like a fair offer for me so keen to transact, but... it's an overseas buyer (North America). Whilst I've done a few trades on here it's always been f2f in london so both parties are happy, etc. What is best method for selling overseas in a way that gives both parties the most confidence? I'm nervous of some horror stories I've heard that suggest post count/references alone are not enough, and likewise I want to guarantee something sent in perfect condition arrives the same?
Basic question but any suggestions most welcomed as it's a fair slug of money/top quality print I'd be receiving/sending.
Ta in advance

Recommended Art Books, by damo on Sept 2, 2017 10:11:13 GMT 1, Only their pre-order allocation...should be easy enough once released.
Oh ta, that makes more sense, did think it odd that 1000 would go that quickly.

Controversial Art, by damo on Aug 19, 2017 6:54:59 GMT 1, I found Banksy's recent work of Jesus with the assassin target on his head (at the Walled Off) extremely controversial. As much for the location as the art itself but the combined impact was (to my mind) uncomfortably controversial. it was one of the few pieces there that I read as being a direct religious (Jewish) reference.
I don't find sexual imagery controversial tbh, religion and politics is where the real lines are (and should be) pushed imo.

Fantasy Football League 2017/18, by damo on Aug 1, 2017 14:17:38 GMT 1, Still no joy, and apologies for clogging thread with it. Not sure who the league administrator is for this but each season you just need to it 'renew league' in the private league section, everyone in it then stays linked but you should get a new code for any who want to join (or so i am told). I had 691, so what's the opposite of a s**t sandwich! Congrats to the charity though, that's the main winner, and rightly so.

Invader RVE Repetition Variation Evolution Print, by damo on Jul 17, 2017 17:43:36 GMT 1, How do you think galleries earn their bread ? If a gallery says I buy then it's the seller to accept their offer or not ? If they accept then the gallery can resell. Isn't that business gallery or not ? Also with a gallery status I am sure there are loads of hassles associated to it in terms of refunds, people not happy etc... Not affiliated to CAT in anyways even even if I bought from him before but I think a little harsh as without galleries there would be no art or very little ? I disagree totally. Without galleries there would still be art. It would just be a more fun process and cheaper. That said, CAT isn't a gallery is he? just a reseller. He isn't interested in or helping the artists, he's just after a quick buck. This place also isn't for galleries to post their stock, its allegedly against silky rather fluid rules in fact. you don't get that this place is about hobby collecting, not a sales platform for galleries sales. or at least it was! soon to just be as**t load of sales adds from galleries that no one will be bothered with if it keeps going the way it is. oh, along with the increasing flipper posts of course. will be very low end, and just irritating to keep seeing pieces you missed flipped for profit. but hey, fill it with bottom feeders, the people who bring all the decent info will just walk away as so many already have! Banned from the forum in 5, 4, 3, 2......

WCP The West Country Prince, by damo on Jul 13, 2017 18:33:33 GMT 1, The differences are numerous. Beyond the poor replication of the "overspray" effect on the WCP version, the real key to me in in the dress: (the best I could do in MS Paint) It is strange to think that one of these provides ยฃ60k worth of pleasure and the other doesn't. I can't put my finger on it, but if I can't have the real McCoy I couldn't settle for the copy. Tbf the one on the left cost me ยฃ90 and the one on the right was ยฃ50. If I had the means to pay ยฃ60k on a piece of paper, just to give me pleasure.... i'd do it by filing for a divorce ;-)
Take your point though, and I'm not sure I would have bought it without it making me smile just as a joke print, always makes me feel a bit like Gorden Kaye in Allo allo!

WCP The West Country Prince, by damo on Jul 13, 2017 15:03:32 GMT 1, Have posted on this before but when i sold my US GWRB a few years back I bought a WCP as a fun reminder for the kids room. I know they are nothing more than copies but i was really surprised by the quality tbh (to the extent that it strengthens the argument 'against' in my view). I accept people have strong, and understandable, views on them but the quality simply isn't poor as is sometimes suggested. With apologies for the quality of the pics/framing/lighting, but just for fun, can you really tell me which is the original below and which is WCP...

Invader RVE Repetition Variation Evolution Print, by damo on Jul 11, 2017 20:04:47 GMT 1, I really want the new Pejac, so I'm offering this in advance (in prep of the abuse, I'm sorry but I can't justify/afford both) of that release. If I get it myself on Friday I'll sell this at a fair price, if not I'll take a reasonable trade incorporating the new Pejac.
I'm sorry (with huge respect to Invader), but I think Pejac is the absolute nuts.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by damo on Jun 6, 2017 17:13:54 GMT 1, Imagine you wanted to sell a print on here and everyone knew you had to sell regardless, no price too low. Would you get a good price? Or would you get a better price if the potential buyer believed you would walk away if a mutual deal couldn't be thrashed out. There are a lot of flippers on here and I rarely see them take the former route. Clearly the election is about a lot more than just this but it feels like a really odd thing to keep getting raised as a negative. Having said that the whole lot of them are such a shambles on both sides I'm genuinely pining for the good old days of Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband as viable options ffs. I think it is because people are worried that the no deal scenario is going to ruin the lives of a lot of poor to middling people whilst further filling the coffers of the people who set up the no deal?
Negotiating on a basis of being willing to walk from a deal doesn't mean you don't want a deal does it. I've been assuming that no one actually wants a no deal conclusion but it's a negotiation, no reasonable negotiator starts with a position of 'im buggered here, I need a deal of some sorts what's the best you can do?'
Unless they're trying to shift Mr Brainwash prints obviously.

New Banksy - UK Election Souvenir Special, by damo on Jun 6, 2017 15:40:41 GMT 1, It does show how fucked off we are with everything no one really wants conservatives, do they Not really Why would they vote for the destruction of the NHS, Police, a no deal Brexit Why?
I'm not a Tory voter just to be clear, and I was strongly in the remain camp but I am confused by the issue with the 'no deal Brexit' argument. All the promises, by all the parties, are inexplicably linked to the future state of the UK economy post Brexit. Therefore the deal struck is key.
We can't/shouldn't attempt to reverse the decision we just need to get on with it. Therefore I am completely confused why the 'no deal better than a bad deal' position is so negatively received?

Banksy - The Walled Off Hotel โ
โ
โ
, by damo on May 28, 2017 22:11:14 GMT 1, So we finally got here. Oh my word it really is fantistic, I know there are many excuses not to come; cost (it's not expensive if you plan budget flights - we flew in via Romania), danger (it may flare up but my wife and I have felt really safe all day/night and we wandered the old town till gone 11pm with the tourists all long gone back to Jerusalem) or a sense that you've seen it all on here/instagram (believe me you haven't, it's a huge enterprise and it blows you away, no detail is missed). On top of all that once here you realise the hotel isn't even the main attraction. The people are incredible, so friendly and such fun. We had such a laugh working with the guys in Wall mart (we put a bee on the wall as the wife is a Mancunian and it felt timely), learnt a shed load with Siad on the tour and made numerous pals in Rewind (beers!) and around Manger Sq. I'd bore you with the pics (currently laying under the pillow fight work and have the CNN stone thrower screen at the end of my bed - I got the Banksy room) but you know, get out here, see for yourselves, it really is so so worth it!

I'd bore you with the pics (currently laying under the pillow fight work and have the CNN stone thrower screen at the end of my bed - I got the Banksy room) but you know, get out here, see for yourselves, it really is so so worth it!

, by damo on May 22, 2017 18:52:16 GMT 1, Week of my visit has finally arrived. Am there Sunday night, if any other forum members are around and fancy a pint drop me a line.
I know the hotel has created lots of discussion but the fact its encouraged me (and the wife) to get into Palestine and take it in for ourselves ... well, that has to be a win regardless of your politics. As excited about doing the tours as I am buzzing re seeing the hotel. Cannot wait tbh!
