Miss Bugs Once We Dreamt Print, by damo on Jan 15, 2016 8:58:17 GMT 1, Finally, my girls are home. Had Until September reframed to match her sister. They look fantastic. Been sat on mine (figuratively speaking) since Xmas, trying to work out how to frame and this is definitely leaning me towards something similar.

Lumiere London Light Festival, by damo on Jan 14, 2016 21:34:03 GMT 1, I'm actually really looking forward to taking the wife around town to see this on Saturday night. I suspect a fair few drinks on our walk round will make each installation look even better than the last, albeit resulting in a head free of any colour by late Sunday morning!

Art Documentary Recommendations, by damo on Jan 12, 2016 17:42:48 GMT 1, BBC4 had an interesting 30 minute show on Monday night with Jake Chapman exploring Goya. Available on the BBC iplayer. I was amazed that he stated he'd never seen the originals before, considering how regularly they've linked back to them over the last twenty years I was astounded by that. What had they seen for inspiration, Google images?

Art Detectives, by damo on Jan 8, 2016 18:38:29 GMT 1, Right, scrap that! Just solved my own puzzle. I've never ventured onto the 2nd page of Google before but low and behold it actually had the answer. Apparently Richard Ardagh is my man.
Job done. As you were.

Art Detectives, by damo on Jan 8, 2016 18:32:19 GMT 1, Can anyone help with this? Appreciate it isn't street art but I'm hoping someone recognises it. I bought it from a shop (not from a gallery, or Nelly Duff) on Brick Lane (i can picture the shop clearly in my head but can't remember its name, they sold 'a bit of everything' back then in that store ;-) this was circa 2007 from an admittedly hazy memory, i expect many on here would have been around back then. Its been stored up in my loft a few years now but my kid wants it up on his wall, but its really bugging me that i don't know who did it. I am certain they was a yellow and green version (possibly an orange as well) and limited editions but there are no markings on the print to even suggest that. I found one on Google but only a picture from a framers, no sight of it anywhere else. Its not of any value i don't think, i just want to make a note of who it was by.

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by damo on Jan 8, 2016 16:20:48 GMT 1, Just had a note from Dreweatts and the buyer still hasn't paid (for the unsigned GWB). Im not sure what legal position that puts me in now as its been well over 28 days since the auction. I am tempted to get them to send it back and i'll offer it on here (once i get to 50 posts obviously ;-) as a sale price without the buyers premium would be lower than the total cost for the 'winning bid'. Although that doesn't really work if they still insist on their commission obviously. Its pretty frustrating actually, the buyers fault but delays in payment like this are a downside of auction v. private sale i guess. Is this a common occurrence or have i just been unlucky? Your print was most likely bought by a gallery. Once they sell it, and their buyer pays them, they'll then pay the auction house and they'll pay you. The last time I sold items at auction I waited around 2 months before I received payment. Do I have any right to go back and just ask for the print to be returned as its been over 6 weeks? Appreciate there would be some administrative costs if I do that but would they still apply and charge their commission also?
(They have actually just got back to me and seem very relaxed about it all, well far more relaxed than my current overdraft is!)

New Pose book, by damo on Jan 4, 2016 21:40:29 GMT 1, I assumed the same but Amazon description clearly references 1500 limited edition and signed print. It does look like a later despatch date though. Assume they can genuinely ship it for less rather than any cut on margins anywhere/loss of earnings for Pose.

New Pose book, by damo on Jan 4, 2016 20:55:50 GMT 1, Great tip, thank you. Was toying with it but Amazon will deliver it for $8 to London which swung it for me. Subject to import duty but that's still far better than a $50 delivery charge. Looks like a later release date but I can live with that.

New Pose Print "Dude", by damo on Jan 4, 2016 20:04:56 GMT 1, Still no sign of mine either. Was expecting customs letter but nothing so far, just a few straggling Xmas cards from people that clearly forgot to send them till Boxing Day!

Two new D*Face's en route to StolenSpace, by damo on Dec 16, 2015 19:19:25 GMT 1, Okay thanks all, greatly appreciated. I will pick it up with them tomorrow. Eve, on email, did offer a refund so i'm not knocking them too much but I actually really like the print, i wasn't looking to get the money back i just wanted a mint one. Im feeling less unreasonable now though (it has been bothering me all day) so i suspect I will go back and see if i can swap it.

Two new D*Face's en route to StolenSpace, by damo on Dec 16, 2015 19:01:53 GMT 1, Mine was very securely packed but had this damage to the top corner. Must have been pre packaging damage.
Feel like I'm being a little bit OCD (it is a tiny crease), or is it reasonable to be a little annoyed? I've been in contact and they suggest i get it trimmed as it does have a fat border. Its the gun that no one (but me) liked, so not expecting value to rise (i don't think its even sold out) but I wanted it framed with whole print on show. It wasn't a cheap print so I'm a little reluctant to just take it on the chin tbh? Am i being a bit of a tit?

Framing

Framing, by damo on Dec 13, 2015 23:19:42 GMT 1, Apologies as I am sure this probably already has a thread somewhere (feel free to move the post it if need be). I recently sold a print and have gone a little mad in last three weeks with spending the booty (some sensible buys, some not, but I loved them so no regrets. However, framing?
As a newbie what is best options? I feel good framing really adds to the overall display but likewise I know if I ever want to sell again, in a few years, the frame is worthless. I've bought a couple of pieces I love but the framing will cost more than the prints. Is there an acceptable mid ground between pro framing and off the shelf frames? I've seen a few references on here re costs so I'm guessing it's just a cross to bear but in learning a lot from this forum and I thought one more question wouldn't go amiss. I live in London (if decent budget options exist), any advice greatly appreciated. Ta.

Two new D*Face's en route to StolenSpace, by damo on Dec 10, 2015 17:22:12 GMT 1, If they could confirm the 2nd print, and prices, in advance then I for one could come off the site and that would help reduce traffic. Im guessing its Hello Kitty based on the catalogue?

Two new D*Face's en route to StolenSpace, by damo on Dec 10, 2015 13:27:36 GMT 1, Was going to pop down later but little point now, if it is what i hope (which is looking unlikely) then i'll have to try my luck online. Does anyone know when the 'unknown print, at an unknown prices' will actually be available online, and where? Im guessing 6ish via the store but nothing is very clear?

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by damo on Dec 5, 2015 12:17:28 GMT 1, Not quite. I haven't had any paperwork back confirming test but I'm expecting around ยฃ15,400 on agreed terms. To be fair I've looked back at some of the notes I had in from a few galleries and I actually probably would have received a little bit more by going via them. Conversely wouldn't have the potential upside and I wouldn't have the nerves to risk eBay, so I'm still happy with route I took.
Need to to behave myself now though as I've already treated myself to the Miss Bugs release from Thursday!

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by damo on Dec 3, 2015 13:44:45 GMT 1, Thank you, that's very kind. Unfortunately I've now sold the only artistic thing I owned of any real (financial) value but will continue to, attempt, at updating my knowledge through these forums.
On plus side I now have a big hole on our bedroom wall and a little bit of cash in my pocket so am looking forward to spotting something that can give me as much pleasure as the Banksy did. My 8yr old daughter is the most gutted. She always thought that print was a picture of her, and as a result for years insisted on buying helium balloons, and would then let them go within about two minutes to replicate 'the picture'! I guess art inspires different people in different ways ;-)

Dreweatts Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by damo on Dec 3, 2015 12:06:46 GMT 1, I sold the GWB yesterday at this auction and thought I'd comment based on that last post. I've had that print for nearly ten years and it was never bought as an investment. It was a difficult decision to sell but circumstances, etc, anyway I did call around and there was such variation in prices being offered that I concluded the only way to get a fair market price was to put it to auction. In the end it achieved more than I ever expected and was certainly more than I was offered anywhere else. That was what drove the decision to sell it that way and the auction house were, quite frankly, very keen.
As as an aside for anyone in the same boat it's worth noting that the prices/commissions stated are market rates, as such they are quite negotiable and if it's something they are keen on (as they were with GWB) those % came down pretty quickly. I guess the reality is they knew a handful of Banksys would bring traffic in as it appeared to do. As a seller you realise that the house is taking a good cut but I don't see a huge diff with selling it to a gallery, they have to see a mark up to sell it on themselves or it's just vanity. Ideally I would have sold it to someone who would see it for what it is, and not an investment, but I think that ship sailed some time ago on these.
I was in the room and one buyer took pretty much all of the Banksys over the phone, and did some pretty aggressive bidding on a couple. I'm guessing it was a dealer. Ironically the only one they didn't bid for at all was ... Morons.
