Make your own Invader!, by damo on Sept 29, 2018 0:21:52 GMT 1, We had a couple of days in Malaga and Bilbao this Summer and the lad (8) got right into Invader whilst we were away. Was a lot of fun. We’re now decorating his bedroom as he’s away for a few nights. £10 on B&Q mosaic tiles and jobs a good’un. Not as creative as many I’ve seen on here but I think he’ll absolutely love it.

New JR Ballerina Print, by damo on Sept 14, 2018 17:17:10 GMT 1, Been toying with buying but have decided against it after giving it (well my finances tbh) proper consideration, so i am about to take it out of cart if anyone wants to grab that it should be available again in a few minutes.

Best Cover Version?, by damo on Mar 5, 2018 1:46:12 GMT 1, I think she actually ended up with co-writer credit for that, he gave up on it. Garbage did a cracking cover of it a few years back as well.
For my money this is a great cover (of a Springsteen song), stripped back it manages to portray original meaning far better than the bombastic hit.

Show us YOUR - Latest FURNITURE BUY, by damo on Feb 16, 2018 12:32:49 GMT 1, Pretty sure this is wrong thread for the question but can't think where else to post it (feel free to move it mods)...
Im on the hunt for a coffee table that would allow me to display some art books on a shelf/or box under the table. I want one primarily made of glass but cannot find for love nor money despite having a clear image in my head of what i want. Found a few in wood frames or heavy metalic which don't quite work for me, likewise where there is just to big a gap between the table and the 'shelf' for it to work for me. Anyone know of anything suitable from a UK designer/supplier? Thanks in advance.

I know there are a few shark fans on here (Dive Jedi ) so thought i'd share. As an example this b&w photo from the Caribbean sea bed (levitation) is something else;

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by damo on Nov 7, 2017 16:59:32 GMT 1, No luck for me, I am really hoping the wife won and she's keeping it a secret until Xmas.
Which puts a hell of a lot of expectation, and pressure, on a woman who usually just 'spoils' me with new pyjamas!

Banksy • Box Set, Walled Off Hotel, by damo on Oct 30, 2017 11:21:31 GMT 1, I am flying on thursday, 2 nights in Jerusalem and then checking in at Walled Off on Saturday. I have sent emails to the hotel re: transfers but have not got any replies. People that have been there before - how did you sort your transfers please? Getting a bit urgent now. Thanks!
George can sort that, we did similar from WO to Jerusalem hotel. If you've nothing planned for the Jerusalem nights we had a great time getting hammered on local craft beer at Mahane Yehuda Market, certainly work a look.

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by damo on Oct 24, 2017 19:51:15 GMT 1, I'd say less a coincidence and more 'the point' but, semantics. Ha! Yes obviously... You think they decided not to release the print for 6 years for this plan?
I don't think Banksy needs the money from a print release. I think he's often credited with more foresight than in is possible re this market. I think POW could have taken us for whole lot more money than they have done from this 'closing sale', I don't think we all behave (understandably) as they'd like at times, I think POW played an absolutely fundamental role in making the scene as exciting as it was/is/will be. And I think the whole point of art is differing opinions.
Fwiw.

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by damo on Oct 24, 2017 19:08:11 GMT 1, Quite the coincidence that the Banksy print release is 'Sale Ends Today' as POW are having a closing down sale. Can't help but feel that those depicted in the artwork are doing exactly as we are at the chance to get hold of this print haha.

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by damo on Oct 23, 2017 19:13:04 GMT 1, did anyone here bags one of the 15 mona simpsons?
Don't take my word that it was 15. I thought it said that but it may well have been 5. I was too focused on getting the 'kin 'add to cart' button to do anything. I read details once so may well have got it wrong. Took about 3 minutes tbh so if you get caught in same situation id suggest you wait for it to show in cart. Don't assume nothings happening and refresh as that'll probably throw you out.

Is THIS the real face of Banksy? Robert Del Naja?, by damo on Oct 22, 2017 21:16:09 GMT 1, ... you've already agreed that banksy is a collective, which by its nature means a number of persons come and go ... just because they publish one photo of a person does not mean that it is 'him' ... I also have no doubt that a/more than one photo of 'banksy' has already been published ... Just my 2 pence but I would venture to bet that Banksy started as 1 person but now is a collective of artists. That makes the most sense to me but who knows?
One of the interesting points (for me) made in that old Banksy interview someone posted on here last week was his reaction to the question of collaborating with other artists. He stated quite strongly that it hadn't worked out well for him in the past and preferred not to do that. Assuming the long held view that it's a collective then something must have changed his position. Personally I don't care who it is but suspect his full story would be a fascinating one, if he ever chooses to share it.

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by damo on Oct 21, 2017 17:38:14 GMT 1, Finally found the time to get to the actual show this afternoon. Well worth the trip, highly recommended. I feel like it's had mixed reviews (was very busy today mind) but I learnt a lot from the background info, and some of the pieces.. just incredible. Oddly though I did leave feeling a tiny bit flat, not from the works but from a wonder of just what he could have become, and created. 27, jeeze a man should just be getting started.

Invader RVE Repetition Variation Evolution Print, by damo on Oct 21, 2017 16:06:30 GMT 1, Looking for £3800 for this to fund a whole backlog of framing. I think that's slightly under mkt value (feel free to disagree) but that price comes with the caveat that im looking for a fairly quick sale and want a Ldn handover. Will post details and pics later if needed. Print still in tube etc. Ta.

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by damo on Oct 17, 2017 19:36:47 GMT 1, I'm at the Angel pub, 2 (crawling pissed) minutes from the old Dragon Bar. Everything about this straw thing screams a (albeit quite funny) scam to me .... but.... I am tempted to do a wander.
Is it just me or has the whole scene suddenly got exciting again!

Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by damo on Sept 19, 2017 18:36:21 GMT 1, Walked past this a few times today, including the last few minutes. There has been a constant, and very diverse, crowd taking pics, etc. Security man estimated total so far at circa 3,000. I'm struggling to think of anyone (there isn't anyone) that could achieve that off street work. Really has reminded me of Banksys reach, and whilst I don't think popularity always equals quality you have to assume he's now reached a level where he'll still be discussed in 50 years, akin to Warhol. Not news I accept, but a good reminder.

Banksy in the Daily Mail, by damo on Sept 17, 2017 22:35:46 GMT 1, Im not suggesting anything (and its not like many others haven't been hugely influenced by him) but for those looking to further fuel any conspiracy theories...
www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2013/oct/14/jean-michel-basquiat-street-art-massive-attack
B using his own work to (quite brilliantly imo) help promote the Barbican show does suggest he's also a huge fan, albeit any artistic influence is far less evident in Banksy's work.....
