Artists United Project !, by RetroCanvas on Apr 9, 2009 13:04:37 GMT 1, Hi All,
It's been a while since I posted about this so there's likely to be people that don't know what the Artists-United project is all about.
I wont bore you with stuff in this post, I'll tell you the latest plan and if you want, you can do your research...
The 73 artists that are currently taking part in this project have had their artwork merged from the initial 3 prints into 1.
Here
It's a collabarative print designed to physically spread the word of the artists involved. The website is a virtual back up to that motive.
The 2 yellow blocks are the final ones that need to be filled before I can kick off the process of making 500 actual prints :-)
So, I'm looking for 2 artists to fill either the landscape block on the left, or the portrait block in the centre.
You'll notice some familliar names involved (Mr Eggs, Jef Aerosol, We Like Static, Dan Kitchener and Angel 41) as well as some less familliar.
If any artist is interested in being involved in this project and filling a block with their art, please contact me via PM or to info@artists-united.com. I'll consider all the artists and choose the final 2.
Thanks all,
retro
Just an update on the Artists-United project > It's over a 3rd done with over 60 artists on it now! ;D Print 1ne Print 2wo Print 3ree Take a look www.artists-united.com and if your an artist that would like to be involved please read the first post in this thread. Thanks again to all the artists on this forum who have opted to be involved. Retro

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by RetroCanvas on Nov 20, 2008 20:03:31 GMT 1, Good thinking, but...
It's not actually a perfect union jack, so there is no real way up. It's there to signify the home of the Beatles using the colours and shapes of the flag. My art isn't meant to be read into that much, but thanks. When I ask for feedback I never get it. When I don't ask, it comes.
Cheers

What are your thoughts on giclee?, by RetroCanvas on Nov 1, 2008 18:07:20 GMT 1, Agreed, it's the perception that these ink-jets are easily produced that gets me though. After the scans, proof prints, colour matching, sizing, etc etc is done, then yes, I suppose they're easy. It's the time spent on the above that makes a good print from an original.
To the people that have said that they will never by a Giclรฉe/ink-jet print, your collection will seriously be limited.
Retro
The pretence is so funny. Why not just call it an โink jetโ a high end ink jet. Doesnโt sound as mysterious then I guess.

What are your thoughts on giclee?, by RetroCanvas on Nov 1, 2008 17:22:05 GMT 1, Thanks for that LAZ,
The amount of people that think Gicleรฉ's are a cop-out way of printing art or are worthless because there is no contact with the artists is silly.
In essence it is computer printed image on paper and people don't realise what goes into colour matching to the original etc.
It's nice to hear that the screenprinting does cost less. Anyone can screen print if they practice a bit and Gicleรฉ will always win when having to reproduce full colour peices with high detail.
Small rant over
Retro
Giclee, is a really cheap way of producing an editioned print. Giclee? Cheap? A screenprint is a really cheap way of producing an editioned print, not a giclee. The giclee's we're working on for Candice Tripp's forthcoming show will cost just short of ยฃ50 each to produce, the screenprint we're also doing with her is considerably less.

Hey! Ive had an original 'Save or Delete' Postcard and sticker set framed up in my study for a couple of years now and was wondering if anyone knew if they hold any sort of value. I'm assuming they aint worth that much but although I see lots of reproduction posters around for sale, I dont think I've seen many of the above. This is a genuine question and I dont expect to make ยฃยฃยฃยฃs from them so hold back on the pisstakes please! I'll upload pics as soon as I have feed my camera!

Old Stencil & New Painting, by RetroCanvas on Oct 1, 2008 20:33:16 GMT 1, Rourke, do you ever get any bad feedback to your work?
Everything I've seen of yours is better than good. One day I'll get around to buying something from your good self, it will be a hard choice though.
Sorry for the kiss arse type comment!
Retro
Loosened up alot more on this, let us know what you think. I wanted to do all the little bits of detail all the way down ;D, but I forced myself not to. Cheers

Staple Hill Round-a-bout, by RetroCanvas on Aug 14, 2008 12:56:17 GMT 1, Anyone else got anything on this???

Don't think this has been posted yet, sorry if it has... My mate took a photo of Staple Hill Round-a-bout in Bristol today (on his crap phone). Looks like theres an unfinished Banksy there. You can only see at at a certain angle due to the way its been done on the railings. This does look like a Banksyish thing to do. Anyone know anything about it?? Retro

GRAFTER - canvas release, by RetroCanvas on Jul 21, 2008 20:29:07 GMT 1, I'd just like to make a comment about the statement saying that all you do is take an image and use a Photoshop filter.
I use a similar process when designing my paintings but, and I hope I speak for all that do the same here, it's not very ofter you just have to select one filter and the jobs done. There's usualy a fair amount of time working with contrast, colours, images sizes and manual tweeking to get the final result. Getting to something that you can paint or indeed stencil.
Just my take on this. No beef!

great to see Mr Eggs back on the Manchester scene after a long time quiet. From the guy who punked Banksy! This is what it looked like before and after he did his additions It didn't last long though... the writing went pretty fast, followed by the egg getting cracked :-)
