Paul Insect โข The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Jan 20, 2021 11:59:21 GMT 1, For those that would like to know... Not sure it's frowned upon to post numbers but I did get a customs text saying I owe ยฃ129. I need to check the actual tracking email AA sent me but I'm in the UK and receiving an Observer.
Hmm....Iโd have to check back but I think it was suggested by AA that theyโd try to ensure that it came through with a 5% fee. Iโd certainly be claiming back that additional 15%. Seems a little bit of pot luck with customs at the moment as to what youโll end up being charged. It does make purchases from Europe a little more odd-putting or at least you need to figure in that youโre likely to be hit with an additional 20% fee at worst. Iโve not had any news about my Observer yet but will advise if I have been stung with the same.

Mr Jago - Adam, by mrizzle on Jan 19, 2021 19:38:24 GMT 1, Iโd sooner redecorate the lounge! I absolutely love mine. GLWTS though and someoneโs getting a cracking print. One of my favourites of last year in truth. Yeah I much prefer this to Requiem. Colour schemes currently purple ๐ค
Requiem certainly has more purple in it to be fair but Iโd have thought Adam would still go ok with that colour scheme. I personally think itโs the nicer print but thatโs totally subjective!

Paul Insect โข The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Jan 18, 2021 13:55:26 GMT 1, About this postย Tried on bigger / more expensive or framed it's not the price.
I actually deleted my own initial query. On reading the confirmation email and the statement about the custom made shipping crate and, with the knowledge that itโll arrive securely (particularly in light of some of the images shared today in the latest art purchases thread!), Iโm ok with the fee.

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by mrizzle on Jan 17, 2021 18:09:58 GMT 1, What watch is a good entry into the world of investing in watches
I am very cautious of suggesting anything related to an โinvestmentโ when it comes to watches. There are some fairly safe bets but the watch world has been in a bubble for a number of years now and youโre going to pay top dollar for most desirable watches these days. Your best bet if youโre looking for an investment is to create a relationship with an AD and hope to be offered some of the more sought after pieces at cost. However, brands like Rolex know what theyโre doing and demand far outweighs supply so youโre looking at a lengthy wait for something like a Batman (preferred the older bracelets personally), Submariner or Daytona for example. You are very unlikely to ever lose money with any of the โHoly Trinityโ (Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe). However, I think youโd also be relatively safe with A Lange & Sohne or Rolex.
However, I buy my watches to wear and ultimately my advice is to discover your preferred style and makes and buy what youโd like to wear. If it holds its money or increases in value then thatโs a bonus. Oh...and donโt ever buy quartz watches. For me a huge amount of my passion for watches relates to the craftsmanship and history of a brand. Quartz watches are always going to be reliable but thereโs no romance or craftsmanship behind those types of movements.
Iโm no leading authority on this and, judging by some of the collections already on show, there will be others who can speak to this better than I can.
Hope that helps a little as a starter.

Sold - Pure Evil Audrey PP, by mrizzle on Jan 17, 2021 12:56:24 GMT 1, Having managed to score an Observer from Avant Arteโs recent Paul Insect release, breaking my own no more art for a while promise and having to advise my pregnant wife (who is several days past her due date) of this fact, some things need to go. Preferred sales would be within the U.K.
Sold: ARDIF โOctopus Mechanimal (atlantic)โ Edition of 45 56x76cm Hand pulled screen print with gradient on Somerset velvet (270gsm) with deckled edges ยฃ250 OBO (buyer to pay fees and shipping.)
Currently stored flat in acid free folder but will be shipped rolled in original Pretty Portal tube with COA enclosed.
This is a genuinely incredible piece in person. My pictures below will give some indication of the detail in it but itโs a cracker.
One sold on eBay in October for ยฃ399. A few of have been sold on Catawiki, 1 I know went for โฌ506. For full transparency, others have gone for โฌ500 and โฌ280 (though the latter was probably the least desirable of the variants hence the sale price). I think I have priced this very reasonably.
Sold:
Pure Evil - Audrey Dot Tone (Silver) Printerโs Proof ยฃ230 (buyer to pay shipping and any fees). 1 Colour Screenprint on 330gsm Fedrigoni Paper. 70 x 50 cm
Purchased here from a member just last year and another one Iโm reluctant to let go. Currently stored in an acid free folder and can ship flat within the U.K.
I received a quote from Bala at PE for framing just a month or so ago. Had an initial quote but asked them to give me one for 70% UV non-reflective glass - ยฃ180. Thereโs also an option to have a โglowing silverโ spacer which is about another ยฃ25.
Honestly, itโs a beauty and one that really doesnโt come up on the secondary market. The fact itโs a PP makes it all the rarer.
Also still have a Clown Owners T up for sale at cost (ยฃ45 plus shipping), size medium. Stock images below. Please note that this doesnโt come wrapped with Clown tissue paper as it was purchased alongside a hoodie and was not independently wrapped in tissue paper. Sold.
So...who can help a brother out and help me try to restore the balance and harmony in my house?! ๐ฌ

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by mrizzle on Jan 17, 2021 2:21:30 GMT 1, Thatโs a collection I can only dream of. A couple of my grails right there!! The watches Iโm trying (and also not really succeeding) to save for are a Tudor BB58 (still unsure whether I would go for the original or latest blue one) and an Omega Aqua Terra. The latter is, in my eyes, one of the most flexible wearing watches out there. At present though, I sold off a bunch of pieces when moving house so only have two. My favourite of those two is hands down my Oris Aquis. I love the tool feel to it and the unique design of them. Not anywhere up there in the big leagues of some of you guys! What I can buy is also slightly limited by the fact I have the wrists of a child and I HATE when I see sundials on peopleโs wrists. Classic sizes will never date in my opinion.ย These 2 bad boys are mine and my sonโs. Really lovely every day watchesย
I really think theyโre one of the best value watches on the market! Thereโs a LOT of bang for your buck there and they tick pretty much every box for me. Love the Pelagos too but I couldnโt carry it off with my wrist size. More of a tool watch too I guess.
At this stage, I would say Iโm more of an enthusiast than a collector but itโs nice to set yourself goals.

Iโd have been all over this had I not bought the Paul Insect piece today. Itโs going to be a cracking print though and suspect Iโll have to โoverpayโ on the secondary market later down the line.

Paul Insect โข The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Jan 15, 2021 15:22:31 GMT 1, It's blatantly not a shipping 'cost'. I wonder how much profit is being made from it and who benefits, the artist or the gallery? Custom made shipping crate.
Thatโs a fair point actually and if it gets it here safely then itโs a price worth paying.
From the confirmation email: โ Every finished work we send to our collectors is packed in a flat, wooden box that has been custom-built for your piece.โ

Paul Insect โข The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Jan 15, 2021 15:14:21 GMT 1, Shipping cost was a bit more than I expected, but if it means the piece gets here safe and sound (which is the case with how Avant packages them) I am happy. Snagged Observer 4 as I felt that the contrast/balance in colors was perfect.
That was my first choice. Didnโt even appear for me, instant sell out. Youโve done great work to get that one.

Paul Kremer hopper print SOLD, by mrizzle on Jan 10, 2021 21:26:31 GMT 1, Absolute cracker of a print and looks perfect. Iโd snap it up in a heartbeat if I was in a position to do so right now but, three days out of a newborn arriving (unless their attitude to timekeeping is as relaxed as his/her fatherโs), this probably isnโt the right time. GLWTS, canโt see it hanging around long.

Paul Insect โข The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Jan 8, 2021 23:18:08 GMT 1, Christian Avant Arte , can you please confirm pricing for U.K. buyers and advise of any taxes and fees that will need applied to import to the U.K.? This is what i've had from 2 V reputable shippers: 5% for prints made by artists, 5% for HF works by artists (including sculpture), 5% for sculptures under the edition size of 10, 20% for sculpture editions over 10 (unless HF) Then all works on paper/originals etc would be 5% 12:56 But realistically, and this is the BIG BUT, the import officer who reads the description will be the one who decides the classification and then the corresponding %. With editions it is unbelievably hazy. So there could be instances where people are undercharged, or overcharged, but we can argue on their behalf and query the decision, just takes a lot of time and energy. We should just be keeping our product description as accurate as we have and use the above tariff if client's ask. Essentially meaning, for Avant Arte works: 5% for prints 5% for any HF works 5% for sculpture editions under 10 edition size 20% for sculpture editions for 10 and over edition size 5% for any original works of art (WoP/paintings etc)
