Merry Xmas - YOUR top 5 favourite prints in your collection, by mrizzle on Dec 26, 2020 15:26:50 GMT 1, In no particular order, a pretty varied selection I think, from one of the two Atom guys: Nick Walker bought v cheap from POW (50x70) John Shehe etching he gave it to me after the show of his I put on, about 1M across Bert Irvin screenprint w wood blocks bought recently for a great deal! about 1M across William Scott demonstration litho done at Bath Academy of art given to my father when he taught there, image about 60cm across Nick Smith (with bullet holes) printed by me for him in my garage, v early days of Atom bit over A1 I think
Love that Nick Smith ‘Target Practice Soup’. Did he shoot them with an air rifle?
Also, much prefer the posts with images of your prints. Always like seeing everyone’s framing.

Mister Frameman • Mr Frameman, by mrizzle on Dec 26, 2020 1:08:10 GMT 1, I went to Norwich to pick up this lot from Gary yesterday, will be having a major hanging session and getting them on the walls next week
Well...someone’s been very busy. Can’t wait to see what’s all wrapped up and ready for the wall!

Christmas Cheer, by mrizzle on Dec 24, 2020 19:41:46 GMT 1, Well what a year it’s been. I was going to write something prophetic (probably) but was reminded of The Stranger in The Big Lebowski who put it better than I ever could,
“ A wiser fella once said, sometimes you eat the b’ar and sometimes, well, the b’ar eats you.”
This year has clearly been one hungry damn bear so I’m buying some huge f**k off bear traps for 2021, though I will settle for a vaccination.
My warmest Christmas wishes to you and your loved ones. Take care of each other and here’s to an injection filled New Year.

That is excellent!!! It’s by Christopher Wool isn’t it? I’d absolutely hang that in my house.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by mrizzle on Dec 23, 2020 7:59:33 GMT 1, mrizzle looks to have the best one yet methinks ..... although personally I’d drop it down maybe 6” on that wall but then again I’m a short arse ...
Incredibly kind of you to say and very much appreciated charliec2701. Truly, thank you for that. I was slightly fearful of how it might be received and I’m relieved to have had some positive responses. Have a great Tuesday!

Invader “Prints on Paper” Book , by mrizzle on Dec 23, 2020 7:54:20 GMT 1,
Big fan of Invader but, perhaps controversially, I feel like these are quite weak. Having recently been perusing the favourite Invader thread recently, they pale in comparison to most of his other previous images/releases. Perhaps I’ll warm up to them but, on first look, I don’t love them.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by mrizzle on Dec 22, 2020 13:47:34 GMT 1, I am conscious that I started this thread and have never uploaded mine to it as an example. As I said when I posted it elsewhere, I think it might divide opinion somewhat. I’ll try to rationalise/justify my choice.
Firstly, I was going to go all grey but my wife disagreed. I still think that looks spot on but, as I’ve spent much of this year going utterly rogue and buying and hanging art without consultation, I felt that I better get her approval on this one, especially as it’s hanging in such a prominent area of the house. My initial second choice was a sort of brushed bronze frame that I’ve used previously with a grey backing. However when Gary went to order it he discovered it discontinued. He suggested the one we plumped for or a wooden one. We already have a console table in that particular hallway opposite where it now hangs and the mismatching woods put us both off slightly. The one “we” finally went with is a champagne sort of colour. To my eye it works quite well and looks slightly different depending on the light. I went with a grey backing and non-reflective UV 70 glass. I opted not to go full museum glass because of where it’s hanging and, ultimately, if the life jackets have been lying on a beach then I felt some light on it ultimately doesn’t matter so much.
Secondly, the other part which I think will split opinion is I went “tag out”. I know how many feel about this and I understand that train of thought entirely. I don’t think you’re wrong either! However, I feel that it gives the piece some context and felt that it might also help provoke discussion when people see it...if others are ever allowed in our house again that is!! I feel that Gary did a wonderful job of balancing it in the frame through the placement of the tail of the ‘e’ which prevents it looking unbalanced in the frame. Anyway...enough rambling (and trying to justify), here’s mine.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by mrizzle on Dec 22, 2020 13:10:02 GMT 1, Just back from Gary (Mr Frameman) at Premier framing today. Perspex, with mat mounted on painted white chipboard. Gonna' need some heavy duty fixings - its bloody heavy!!!!
What are you planning to use to hang? They certainly do have some weight behind them!! I have to hang mine directly into drywall and used two 50lb rated wall hooks to try and distribute the weight.

Obey suspending UK orders , by mrizzle on Dec 20, 2020 0:54:01 GMT 1, I was enquiring about the prices of a new mk8 Golf R the other day. I mean asides from the fact that I think VW have got their pricing very wrong for this car, the dealer told me that the staring list price will be £39.2k. However he also warned me that the price may increase by 5-10% by the time that first orders start to arrive in the country courtesy of Brexit. So...yay!!

Paul Insect • The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Dec 20, 2020 0:31:07 GMT 1, Hi guys, no! We did not sold anything yet, there is no one in the world who have bought these prints yet. But yes the pre order allocations are full, so the list with pre orders for the main and special edition are full. This don't mean that nothing will be available at launch, we will have some available at launch. So pre orders are full but the prints are not all gone. But to be completely transparent we do pre orders, for the main and special edition there are all kinds of reason to do that but they main one is that we have higher chance that way to sell to someone who won't flip it the next day, I know this sounds ironic with the discussion in this thread. With the small prints we are more happy to take this risk and that is why we decided together with the artist to release, with almost no pre orders (at least 95% will be available). Serious question. How do you become a "loyal client" when you miss out every time you are signing up for a print? I'm sure i'm not the only one on here that tried several times without any succes. And please don't say that's unlucky. h.dupa On this one, yes we are working on this, how we can also give new potential clients the chance to become a loyal client. It helps by buying editions that are also not hyped and not everyone directly 'wants' but also we don't want you or anyone to buy something that you don't want to just get high on the list, but definitely engaging a lot with us helps, you can shoot me and email christian@avantarte.com or curtis@avantarte.com, or a message to our personal instagrams: christianluiten & curtispenning . And we can chat about art and collecting etc and get to know you, or someone else from the Bussines gets to know you. We really try to give new collectors a chance or people that have missed out on earlier launches, but hope everyone also understands that we also need to take care of loyal clients and just make sure we sell to people we can trust (and this is hard as you can see haha)
I continue to applaud your willingness to engage in constructive discussion and your transparency and honesty Christian Avant Arte. Well done.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by mrizzle on Dec 20, 2020 0:25:56 GMT 1, Erm...so going back about a page, congratulations to those of you who landed these. I’ve seen some picture appearing on Instagram through the day and they look absolutely amazing. I don’t think the initial pictures really do them justice. Those of you who landed them, do you intend to frame them or just hang them with those skate deck hanger thingmes? I’m not sure which way I’d have gone if I’d been successful but a nice quandary to have.
Again, congratulations and enjoy them.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by mrizzle on Dec 17, 2020 17:55:30 GMT 1, A commission I had done by Jameson Robinson (and member here too) for my son. My plan is to have a second one done with different coloured balloon for child number 2 when he/she arrives in Jan (all going as expected). I am really delighted with it and know my son will be too when he sees it. Once again, I can only highlight how responsive, helpful and just outright decent Jameson is. Bizarre question, but is that a John Lewis dining table? The wood and grain looks almost identical to mine :-)
Well that’s insanely observant of you because the answer is yes! It’s part of their Calia range.

My plan is to have a second one done with different coloured balloon for child number 2 when he/she arrives in Jan (all going as expected). I am really delighted with it and know my son will be too when he sees it. Once again, I can only highlight how responsive, helpful and just outright decent Jameson is.

...except he’s an MMA fighter and not a boxer. Also might have more success at boxing because he’s having a rubbish run in the UFC.

Paul Insect • The Reflection, Observer , by mrizzle on Dec 16, 2020 14:05:42 GMT 1, Not sure that the smaller ‘Observer’ prints actually look terribly great but perhaps just me? The larger ‘The Reflection’ pieces look great but a bit out of my reach at this current time. Not always a massive fan of their framing choices at Avant Arte either I have to say.

DFace • Romance 2020, by mrizzle on Dec 15, 2020 9:40:27 GMT 1, Aw man...been excited about the next D*Face print but have no desire to have any reminders of this year/face mask images on the wall so, sadly, I’m really disappointed by this one.
