HUSH
Mar 30, 2017 17:59:59 GMT 1
HUSH , by frankiefrench on Mar 30, 2017 17:59:59 GMT 1, Finally I have dug out some lovely bits from Hush as promised to a couple of forum members. My apologies for slight delay due to busy schedule. On offer is a gallery catalogue, several sticker sheets 1 of which is signed as is the Opus gallery catalogue for "De-Sensitised" exhibition from 2008. The other sticker sheets are repeats of the G boy and girl manga characters sheets with several on each sheet* Three hand finished prints on thick watercolour paper, all signed numbered editions from a run of 100. These mini prints are black ink tinted with sepia, it may even be tea but i'm assuming he would use watercolour or acrylic for the job. Three different, all are approx 6" x 8.5" and a large full colour vinyl sticker on its original backing which is 6 x 9 inches, a whopper. No idea on price, happy to let the whole lot go to one collector or split if the interest warrants it. Nice job lot, throw some idea of figures at me anyone.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by frankiefrench on Mar 28, 2017 18:00:10 GMT 1, Introducing a live radio show session from Public Service Broadcasting. I posted a couple of songs by these awhile ago. Love "Go". Very good band. Cheers Coach. Bizarrely I just got an album of PSB from a charity shop but it was mixed in with the freebie dvds from the front of newspapers, all cheap old films at 20p each in card covers. It slipped through the net because it also had a card cover, 20p .. nice.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by frankiefrench on Mar 28, 2017 14:54:58 GMT 1, If you haven't heard of them, take the 30 minutes to check that out, well worth it believe me. Five vocalists at least in this session alone. Thievery Corporation at their absolute finest.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by frankiefrench on Mar 28, 2017 14:52:45 GMT 1, Hopefully some of you will be aware of Thievery Corporation and as surprised as I was that they play everything on their records. I had assumed some of it to be sampled film soundtracks and Bollywood edits. Nice fusion of reggae dub, north African and Indian influences. They've been going about 25 years.

Dabs Myla: New print and originals up on their store, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 18:49:34 GMT 1, That said, i'm all over this Dabs & Myla stuff, always have been, nice and upbeat. Perhaps a bit too illustrative for my liking but no doubt they will end up with an animated tv series and childrens books, win awards like Gary Baseman (whom I prefer) but hey ho. . . Is there an area where you and I can discuss Paul Insect? I wanna talk about art, what makes us tick. Getting a bit tired of the investment banker vibes on this site, can we all just get back to loving art and not money?

Kid Acne book, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 15:28:28 GMT 1, Can anyone remember that factory sampler book by Kid Acne in conjunction with a posh paper merchant, printer, binder? Lots of different inks on different textures, grades and colours of paper. An absolute corker, very rare. I shall dig mine out and post some pics if any interest. Attached picture not from the book but gratuitous Acne eye kandy.

Advice on art please, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 14:39:32 GMT 1, All sound advice above, for me art is not investment, its art. In it for the love of it and i'm slightly tired of seeing and hearing the word investment to be honest so I have to agree with the poster about being onto a loser if a primary concern is fluctuating values and price depreciation. Maybe get into stocks and shares if loving the art is not enough.

Advice on art please, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 14:37:21 GMT 1, I don't agree with the guys totally. Having bought a lot of art I loved that depreciated a great deal in value I have learnt to reduce the risk and think there are many artists that can offer a strong chance of at least holding value. You might love the art today but your tastes change and evolve and switching things up is cool, so the money needs to stay on the wall if possible. 1. Look at what people are buzzing about on here (there will be lots) and watch and learn. 2. Pick the art you love and search high and low for a good / fair deal 3. Set a budget and stick to it. If you cant afford it, don't get it. 4. Remember the most popular artist can become worthless! There was a time where rolf Harris commanded good money. Lol My personal mantra is if I wont spend good money framing it I shouldn't get it. What's your budget? That will position your options and good luck. This world is highly addictive... All solid advice and rules I use myself, but as I said it's impossible to know. I sunk a lot of money into Adam Neate, thankfully I still love his work, but its cost me! On a side note, I sold all my Invader pieces last year. If I sold them today I would be quite well off! Just how it goes, so getting too involved with investments will only lead to disappointment. The best way is to buy cheap stuff you love, and maybe one day you'll get lucky I'm interested to know what has happened regarding Adam Neate there, surely he was tipped for the top? Not an investor myself I just get by on trades and cheap buys direct, not got the cash for anything too mad. Has the bottom dropped out of Neate? I still have a few street pieces and 4 marker pen drawings left but thats about it, will sell cheap if there's any interest.

Advice on art please, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 13:43:08 GMT 1, Buy what you like, spend only that which you can afford to, dont worry about it, enjoy it. Take up making tons of art yourself, swap with other artists, work your way up the ladder, enjoy found objects, concern yourself not with money but with the joy of colour, texture and form etc.. I know, easy to say but if its art you want just surround yourself with cool stuff that you like, even if its out of a skip.
Also I agree with bakshi above, get into buying originals from emerging artists, go to openings, get to know people.

Paul Insect "It's only a Dream" Allouche Gallery, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 13:36:00 GMT 1, I honestly thought that the dot screen photo elements in his paintings were printed and he then painted around them. Blown away by the projected and hand painted details of eyes and mouths. Hopefully he has a very good optician

Dabs Myla: New print and originals up on their store, by frankiefrench on Mar 23, 2017 12:59:30 GMT 1, I'm not sure I understand your question. ๐ Are you mirroring my question regarding paul insekt. I'm always interested when someone with tastes similar to mine or members who seem to be informed or deep, express a special interest in something. I learn by asking. Regarding Dabs Myla, I'm not sure I displayed a particular interest. And certainly not sudden. But I like their style, they seem to have interesting connections. These pictures are very fun and are at a great price point. I bought two last time and really enjoy them. As a collector, I see these guys as having a great prospects. I also met them, and saw them paint a wall once. (I like paul insekt, have thought about buying something by him. Yet sometimes Im unsure of how good or important he is as an artist. I wanted to know if there was a particular reason for your interest in him, that could help me understand.) I just thought you were being snide and expecting someone to explain themselves as if I was late to some sort of Paul Insect party. My bad.

Eine original street piece - stencil on paper, by frankiefrench on Mar 22, 2017 18:04:54 GMT 1, pretty cool piece. the folds are really the only thing that detracts from the overall image (imo).... just find it a bit visually disruptive. other than that, it's ace. Agreed. Of course this is easily rectified and will be done by a reputable framer when the time comes, Cheers.
