calling all artists, by stickitup on Jul 9, 2009 14:02:15 GMT 1, or of course there's lots of dissused shops at the moment crying out for shows to be put on in them, i remember there being an organisation set up which allowed artists to exhibit in dissused shops for free, as long as you painted the walls and made the shop look nice. All you then need is an attendant to come in and open up each day and the public to be arsed about walking in.

Tony Hart R.I.P, by stickitup on Jan 19, 2009 1:52:01 GMT 1, and don't forget Mr. Bennets antics. I must say i used to find some of the things tony did a little frustrating such as going on a walk and finding a piece of wood which looked exactly like a ........ milk float or a clown or whatever the picture was he was going to do, and when you went out looking for those pieces of wood all you got was pieces of wood which looked like branches or sticks....

What material do you use for stencils? , by stickitup on Dec 5, 2008 14:42:27 GMT 1, hmm yeah thinking about it my first post saying use acetate assumes you are going to use the stencil more than once and its small or medium size. my large piece at cans was only getting one use so it was paper and a can of spraymount.

POW Open Day • 2008, by stickitup on Dec 3, 2008 14:53:53 GMT 1, black cab taxi from gatwick would be more than £100 so don't bother, even a mini cab will be about £70. If you fly to Heathrow, get Picadilly all the way to Kings Cross (book into a cheap hotel) and then northern line to Old St.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by stickitup on Nov 21, 2008 15:15:12 GMT 1, nothing has changed, all the people who wanted one and didn't get one are annoyed and all the people who got one to flip will make a big profit....the unfair thing is there are probably just as many flippers out there wanting a print as there are people who won't sell - either way pow win $$. what IS nice about pow is that they are doing an open day and there may be some goodies there - not to say that flippers won't be there in force to make a similar buck.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by stickitup on Nov 21, 2008 0:04:00 GMT 1, if they lowered the price and made a larger edition it doesn't take too much to realise that they would still sell everything and the flippers would lose out - it would also mean that everyone could own a banksy that wanted one. the sales could go to a charity and everyone would be hapy, or is that too sensible an idea?

Cartrain 🇬🇧 Tate Gallery • Damien Hirst • Gilbert & George, by stickitup on Nov 19, 2008 15:03:41 GMT 1, as art students we were always putting things up in museums and changing name tags back in the early nineties. please ask any major gallery when the first unauthorised peice was put up in them and i am sure you will get dates which predate banksy and ct. its not an original concept, banksy made it famous and others are copying it again. ct you do need to think up a half original concept - the hirst one is a good attempt. you now need to follow it up.

Cartrain 🇬🇧 Tate Gallery • Damien Hirst • Gilbert & George, by stickitup on Nov 7, 2008 18:21:31 GMT 1, anyone can be an artist....not everyone can be a good artist. what makes a good artist? i am unsure as it is subjective, however a main componant of it is how you communicate your idea - in this case via a visual means. I am unsure the visual protacol being used here is particularly successfully or appealing. However different strokes and all, its just there's a lot of people who don't find it communicates its point that well. In comparisom banksy is loved and got by nearly all as his one liners are perhaps too easily to understand, so he appeals to the mass demographic, rich, poor, intelligent, unintelligent, etc etc.

Being arrested, by stickitup on Nov 5, 2008 18:04:12 GMT 1, ok i'll put some input here. if you do significant damage then you will get arrested at some point as the laws of average go. do not go out vandalising when you are drunk - although it gives you the courage to get up without caring who is looking at you - and 99 times out of 100 thats fine, however not knowing when that 1% will be will mean you will get cought. I survived 20 years with no capture by being sensible about where and when you put your mark up. when i did get caught, i made the mistake of offering a full and frank statement about it being me who did the damage. Now as I had a lot to lose if I had drawn it out I think they could have raided me and taken all my stuff. The key to bare in mind here is if your house is clean deny it, until they put you in front of a judge deny it. DO NOT ADMIT IT WAS YOU. If possible get an understanding girlfriend who can keep look out for you and also be prepared to run like your life depended on it, most police are not that fit and will soon tire if they chase you.

New Pieces...Feb 2009 - The getaway - new colours., by stickitup on Sept 19, 2008 13:51:43 GMT 1, naa, get yourself a can of spraymount, coat the back of the stencil - use acetate as the stencil - and it works a treat without having to use much if any weights (which obviously you don't get to use if painting on vertical serfaces. underspray does however look good on some stencils, try it on items in a background or where lighting effects are needed. the shadow on the left of the girls hair/hat is an instance where the underspray works 100%

Paint spray advice?, by stickitup on Jun 4, 2008 14:03:12 GMT 1, best bet for the most non toxic of paints (although it is still not a good idea to eat it) is a paint called marabu buntlack, you get it in the london graphic centre and its pretty damn expensive. its what is usually used if polystyrene is sprayed so that the polystyrene doesn't melt. all others have lots of dangerous thinners and toxic stuff in.

Spraycan Ban?, by stickitup on May 8, 2008 9:15:32 GMT 1, absolute shite everyone. has anyone ever used the new krylon? (not the lead based stuff from 20 years ago) its possibly the worst paint i have ever used and believe me i have used thousands of tins of paint since the mid eighties. good riddence if they are, but for stenciling it wouldn't matter anyway as you are usually tring to get a flat base for the paint not do detailed work. a ban for selling it to under 18's (which is already in place) - yes, however if you are determined enough you can get it some how.
