Paypal Advice, by hlarmy on Nov 4, 2010 7:47:20 GMT 1, i think the import tax is only 5% on works of art.
Interesting - does that mean I can put down the full value and only be taxed a total of 5% - am I correct in thinking I will need to import tax and VAT?
Need to sort this out asap so any further advice today would be much appreciated.

Paypal Advice, by hlarmy on Nov 4, 2010 0:16:51 GMT 1, One more dilemma I am facing is whether to ask the seller to insure the piece for the full amount (about $1k) and thus incur customs / import VAT, or whether to ask the seller to mark it as a gift - the latter will mean no customs / VAT but also no insurance if the piece is damaged.
Is there anyway around this ie. is it possible to insure the items up to the full amount without incurring the customs / import VAT charges?
Cheers all

Paypal Advice, by hlarmy on Nov 3, 2010 20:23:37 GMT 1, Evening all, I need to send quite a large amount of money overseas for a painting. I am paying by paypal and wanted to ask how I can go about making sure I am covered in case the guy does a runner with the money or if the painting turns up in three pieces.
I know that if you send the money as a gift, you cannot claim. Is there anything else I need to be aware of?
Thanks

Mason Storm 🇬🇧 New Print Release • Who is Mason Storm?, by hlarmy on Nov 3, 2010 15:17:48 GMT 1, i have taught him well hlarmy...
Good man; Wiz has a lot of things in common with sheep, which is why I like him (being Welsh and all that!). Just kidding Wiz!
By the way, don't google "Mason Storm" Last Supper as you'll get a few funnies in the search results!

Mason Storm 🇬🇧 New Print Release • Who is Mason Storm?, by hlarmy on Nov 3, 2010 14:57:31 GMT 1, I quite like some myself esp the intelligence sculpture. Mason i wonder if i gave you a lot of free and positive critique down at both my local Post Office and / or my local Tesco supermarket (which incidentally is open until late and at the moment their own brand Digestive biscuits are 27p from 31p) will you send me one of your sculptures free?, nothing too big as wouldnt want to frighten the Animals and i am quite near the SAS training area (quite near = 40 miles or so give or take a Scud). Someone's been hanging out with Fingerz a bit too much

Nicholas Walker Born2Bomb for sale cheap (ish)., by hlarmy on Nov 2, 2010 17:13:41 GMT 1, Just to give you a bit of warning Wiz, I'm going to PM you asking for lots of information, such as dimensions, photos, provenance (in fact I'll spread this over a number of PMs over the next couple of days). I will then start discussing price (again over a number of PMs) before agreeing a price. I will then tell you that I need a few days to get the cash together but also reassure you that I definitely want to buy the piece. After a few days, I will then PM you again to confirm that I can't buy the piece because 'something has come up', but don't worry as I will apologise and then reassure you that you will sell it soon.
Right, PM sent...

Cartrain 🇬🇧 Tate Gallery • Damien Hirst • Gilbert & George, by hlarmy on Nov 2, 2010 14:11:10 GMT 1, In Cartrain’s defence, what I will say is that I have bought one of his photos in the past and can confirm that I wasn’t disappointed with the quality or the image.
However, I paid quite a bit more than £60 for it and can’t help to feel a little pissed off that you’ve since dropped the price quite significantly. I also believe there are people out there who have previously paid up to a grand for on one of these canvasses, and now you’re trying to flog the remainder in the series at a huge price reduction.
Although I appreciate you can and will do whatever you want Cartrain, I do feel there is a certain etiquette an artist should follow, led by principles that should ultimately respect his / her collector base; it feels like you’re taking the piss out of us Cartrain. You're also playing a dangerous game as dropping the sales price like this now sets a new benchmark which future releases will be based on...
I won’t comment on the quality of your work, as it’s subjective, but I do think you’ve made a big mistake here. I’m also disappointed in the way you’ve ignored my emails since purchase. If I were Duncan Ballantyne, you can guess what I would be saying at this stage…

Cartrain 🇬🇧 Tate Gallery • Damien Hirst • Gilbert & George, by hlarmy on Nov 1, 2010 10:24:09 GMT 1, I'd be pretty happy if I'd spent 550 on one of those canvases, only for you to flog them at 150 6 months later. Respect your buyers a bit more.
Well said...
Cartain, this is a bad move - there would be better ways to go about raising cash.

For Sale: Adam Neate Originals, by hlarmy on Oct 30, 2010 12:15:25 GMT 1, Do you have a magic ball? Your apraiseal seems a little optimistic. If you think this will be worth what? 50k in 5 years? Keep it!! It was said tongue in cheek Ronhill! But having said that I like many others think that Adam has the ability and vision to take it to the next level, and although I'm sure I will regret selling this, I'm relocating now not in 5 years, hence the need to sell if you must ask!

For Sale: Adam Neate Originals, by hlarmy on Oct 30, 2010 9:17:20 GMT 1, I thought the canvas had sold about three times over this week but as we all know there's a lot of timewasters on here who are all fart and no shit ... consider this the last bump; if it fails to sell I'll happily hold onto it and sell it for double in a couple of years time or tenfold in 5 years

King ROBBO 🇬🇧 Banksy v King Robbo • Street Art, by hlarmy on Oct 27, 2010 23:23:14 GMT 1, Well said PE, well said Coach.
Agreed, there's too many people trying to gain fame off the back of Banksy (I can name 3 straight away), which I don't have much respect for but I do appreciate why they do it. I always thought the Robbo tagging was naff, and I also thought every piece in the show was very poor - but that is my opinion and I've thought that of many, far more established artists.
EDIT: in fact, scrap all that, I don't really care about whether PE's a sell out, I won't lose any sleep over Robbo's tagging and I enjoyed looking at his work in the gallery as I think, as with a lot of things in life, you need to view the bad to appreciate the good...

Recent Nola Prices, by hlarmy on Oct 26, 2010 23:05:09 GMT 1, We could try the reverse hype method?, come to think of it what is the reverse for hype? realism?.
How about saying something like Nola is one of the most over-rated Banksy prints out there and has gone up in value so much that if you buy now, at the worst you're going to be sitting on a 1k loss in the near future and at the best you ain't going to see any increase in value while the likes of Donuts, S&S, NBGs etc will give you a 1k profit in the next couple of years. How's that Wiz?

Released in Sydney earlier this year and is numbered from an edition of 500. Mint condition and stored flat since purchase. Usual story, have spent far too much recently so need to sell what isn't going to get framed and to fund the addiction that is art collecting...
Cheers
