Oli Epp 🇬🇧 Post-Digital Pop • New Painting • Art For Sale, by Bram on Oct 14, 2021 14:44:02 GMT 1, I am not being naive in the slightest but it is also the case that there are a lot of interested buyers that genuinely would like to purchase such a piece. Even without any manipulation, this would go way over TE.

the artist whose popularity you do not understand, by Bram on Apr 8, 2021 8:56:23 GMT 1, I'll say, there is a decent stratification of Rothko works. I've probably seen a good 75 or so over the years, and out of that maybe 3 A+ works. The ones where everything clicks. Colors vibrate in front of your eyes, the fields float in and out of focus, and the whole work seems to have a pulse to it. If anyone wants a proper Rothko challenge, check out No. 3/No. 13 at MoMA. If that one doesn't do it for you after a good few minutes, yeah, Rothko is not for you. For me, it's my #2 all-time work behind Caravaggio's 'The Denial of Saint Peter'. The Rothko room in the Tate that does it for me. Although went to the one in Washington DC.. meh.
I didn’t get Rothko at all until I sat in that room for a while and the next minute I was in bits. My first mistake was trying to “read” him/them. Just sit in front of some and let them wash over you, Same to a certain extent with Richter, especially The Birkenau and alike. 2nd mistake, it’s not an eyebrow thing, you don’t need a 1st in art history to get it, just “be” in the room. Namaste.

Recommended Art Books, by Bram on Dec 13, 2020 17:47:13 GMT 1, I highly recommend “A Poor Collectors Guide to Buying Great Art” by Erling Kagge, really good read and advice. I bought my first major work for $50k and sold it a few years later for $5M so I could spend it on art. That's the first few paragraphs. I know Norway is a rich county but come on...
I don’t know what it means but I have been buying pre-emerging, does that just mean not represented ? Anyway it sounds good so put me down for it, I now officially collect pre-emerging artists. It’s the new grey, less F5ing, cheap and unflippable.

Tracey Emin • True love always wins, by Bram on Dec 11, 2020 16:02:25 GMT 1, Anything posted on here is going to be picked up and flipped. Lots of lurkers on here running bedroom art businesses - they love this free info. I don't know if it's my imagination or not but it feels like we are getting more and more flippers on here. I joined this group thinking it was a space for genuine art collectors to chat and help each other out with info on new releases etc. But now it seems to be turning in to something more like an alternative to e-bay. I find that quite sad.
Maybe research the origins of the forum

Best Upcoming Artist 2020, by Bram on Nov 22, 2020 23:40:20 GMT 1, Not trying to prompt any heated debate, but why not? To me, her work has a bit of a Jenny Saville feel - I just find the depictions a bit too visceral to want to look at them every day. I have the same reaction to Lucien Freud. No doubt about her talent, but the works make me feel queasy. I never thought of it that way, strange how that could be a negative to you and a positive to me. I tend to gravitate to the uneasy. I like to be disturbed a little.

Best Upcoming Artist 2020, by Bram on Nov 22, 2020 22:19:12 GMT 1, Emma Hopkins (full disclosure, just bought some studies from her website this morning) Hey Bram. Hope all is good with you. Agree regarding Hopkin’s work. I’ve been following her for a while and think her work is fabulous. All good here sir, hope you’re on top form too. I see early Jenny Saville, her flesh work is a gift. Maybe it’s spending more time online but there has been a flood of discovery for me in 2020. Every time I go on to Instagram I discover someone new. Could list maybe 20 standout artists. Would you agree that there seems to be a purple patch of talent currently?

Banksy Auction, by Bram on Sept 4, 2020 15:57:22 GMT 1, F*%k me! You'd be pissed if you decided to sell at Tate last week: U/S Napalm went from £27k at Tate to £38K at Forum today & Donuts went from £59k at Tate to £80k at Forum today
Wasn’t the Tate one £59k +25% bp?

Art News Exhibitions Museums Releases, by Bram on Jun 16, 2020 7:16:40 GMT 1, White Cube online exhibition Tracey Emin 15 June – 2 August 2020 During a period of isolation in her London home, Tracey Emin made a series of works that offer insight into the sanctuary of the domestic realm. Focusing on a range of intimate interior spaces, these small paintings are concise studies that, for Emin, represent a ‘transference of emotions and place’. After twenty years living in the same house, the artist is on the brink of leaving it for a new home. The memories and her sense of belonging, coupled with feelings of anticipation and the prospect of adventure, coalesce in these works. A glimpsed domestic object, such as a chair or bed, takes shape like an elusive recollection, while the bath, a familiar trope in art history, provides the private setting for intimate reflection. An air of stillness and tranquillity pervade the scenes, embodied by the figure reclining contentedly in the quietude. whitecube.viewingrooms.com/viewing-room/19-tracey-emin-i-thrive-on-solitude/ I’m not the biggest fan of Jonathan Jones but I enjoyed his review link
