Faile โข Dog Prints, All Editions , by daveart on Jun 21, 2018 17:33:01 GMT 1, Thank you for the feedback ... heading off to get the rest of things sorted out for the opening tonight..
just to clarify - had a few questions - nothing is for sale at the show - it's just publicity and fun event to get people down to this social club in the city.

Retna Print, Original, WANTED, by daveart on May 12, 2018 15:28:04 GMT 1, may be looking for a new Retna piece for the collection - probably don't have budget for originals .. if you have anything in size price to the black magic print - or like the print above that prescription art had - already have braddock, sangria, provocateurs print, and say my name.. so not looking for those. Many thanks....

Framer cut off artist's signature. Anyone ever seen this?, by daveart on May 9, 2018 17:21:59 GMT 1, its not so unheard of for old prints to say ... 'trimmed' or other similar word.. or specifically if one is not trimmed the description might emphasize full sheet - un trimmed. specifically becuase so many were trimmed.. prints were considered a small step above a poster prior to 1980 or so .. i could see how framers - and or customers would say - well you could trim an inch .. or pay $300 for a custom frame for a print you paid $15 for. ok trim it. I know people on here made similar mistakes with cheap banksy/faile/fairey/ prints back when they were significantly less to buy the print than to have a proper frame made.. just stick it in that old frame and tape it up to fit. easy decision at the time and a real head slapper when pristine prints are suddenly 40K.

Ron English Print ๐บ๐ธ Popaganda โข Pop Culture โข Toys, by daveart on May 9, 2018 13:57:22 GMT 1, Ron English has been around the scene so long that he is practically forgotten on this forum .. but I wonder if there are any collectors out there that have any of his sculptures. I have seen them at the gallery in Wynwood and keep thinking about how much they capture of the whole scene - or what the scene was at one time.
Looking for pictures - looking for input on if anyone has bought one or more - etc..

Martin Whatson โCover Upโ, by daveart on Apr 15, 2018 16:10:26 GMT 1, This is a sales thread, not a post asking everyone for their unwelcomed opinion. Would be rather odd to ask for unwelcomed opinion, wouldn't it...... and yet.. above this all bumps right into good old number 11. What? You haven't actually read all the way to number 11. Seller has clearly requested rule 11 be adhered to on the thread and I don't see any reason why people shouldn't do that.
<11. In Sales Threads; please respect the Original Posterโs valuation. Whilst you may believe you have a valid opinion on what a sensible market value is, another memberโs For Sale Thread is not the place to debate the matter. If you have a differing view you should refer to the Price Check section and debate the matter there.>
Some threads say "Help me set a price.." some don't. Seller did state OBO ..could imply he is willing to entertain all this chatter. Or could just mean interested parties are supposed to submit an offer to purchase the piece to him through messaging.
Re: Experts - i would say this is more a group of like minded people giving opinions.. it would be a fools game to believe each person here with an opinion is an expert. <mine included>

Anthony Lister, Mighty Mo, Dr Suess - for sale, by daveart on Jan 31, 2018 23:41:55 GMT 1, What do these Seuss prints run? Hello - I believe they were about $500 at release - i have recently been quoted at $1,200 for a current retail price and there is one for sale on the USA auction site that rhymes with 'ebay' at $1500 or best offer. So, somewhere in between those two numbers i would think. I would have to note that mine happens to have small corner ding ..sooo.. i'll be realistic on price on that one. think i'll throw it on that auction site as well at $500 and see if i get any takers..

Phillips Art Auctions โข New York, Hong Kong & London, by daveart on Jan 27, 2018 16:16:13 GMT 1, To be clear - i wasnt implying the auction house did anything incorrectly.. i just question the bidders motives and or intelligence.. pricing something up a few thousand dollars is how the market moves over time. bidding something up 40-50,000 over the readily available price just doesnt sit well. and now all the 'experts' are out gushing about the amazing action on the KAWS and Basquiat. meh. time will tell as it always does. maybe a year from now those 100k kaws sets will look cheap. or not. That's absolutely fair comment, but the morality of how much is being spent or potential price hiking aside, I don't think we should be questioning peoples intelligence, people will pay what they feel it is worth if they want something (whether it be for their own walls or for a potential resale market they have spotted)... As you said, time will tell, should be interesting! Anyway, was some amazing art there and a fascinating auction...
fair enough - i posed my self proclaimed BS reason for why people would pay $40,000-50000 over market for something easily procured through a few phone calls.... feel free to provide your own reason why people would do that. i'll stick with "manipulation or people with strange motives going on .. OR .. stupidity. " until i get a better option..

Phillips Art Auctions โข New York, Hong Kong & London, by daveart on Jan 26, 2018 18:05:08 GMT 1, i'm just scratching my head on some of these.. i am going way out on a speculative limb here .. dont read any farther .. this is complete BS .. but i have to wonder if this isnt a few guys trying to move bitcoin profits into other assets that are basically not trackable and sellable again in private sale for cash. bitcoin to art to cash - no banks - etc. <ok just thought of one problem if the auction house doesnt take bitcoin but i bet they do whether officially stated or no >
1. The Basquiat cabeza - 100K all in ? wtf. you can buy those all day long at half that
2. Kaws sets ? i know for a fact that PACE had a set for sale at 50k. i have been talking to them about it and frankly just waited too long. They emailed me after the auction and said it was now being held to be put in future auctions and despite our conversation they were regretfully not going to sell it direct.
2X source ? no one makes that much of a mistake. Why would someone buy such expensive art and not have any idea of the availability and pay 2X the going rate. and 2x in this case isnt .. oh you overpaid for that $1500 chevrier. this is an extra 40,000- 50,000 dollars. can you imagine making a 50,000 mistake? umm no.
There has to be some manipulation or people with strange motives going on .. OR .. stupidity.
id rather be the first than the latter.
end of my stupid speculative conspiracy theory BS

ABINGTON AUCTIONS STREET ART AUCTION, by daveart on Jan 25, 2018 3:21:11 GMT 1, I played. Hence my fire sale. Prices were all over the place, some of the basts went way high when I thought I could get them cheap, others went for pennys on the dollar. I hope Bvlgari is cool in the flesh! I snagged the faile dog. Can never have too many.
i figured someone i knew would grab that .. i gave a good thought to it... so about $2,250 with fees ? decent price i think.
oh, the Retna had an imperfection on it so that held price down a bit i would think.

Documenting Your Collection, by daveart on Jan 9, 2018 20:54:30 GMT 1, curious if you have gone through the process of getting insurance. a document like this with a bit more information included could be a helpful item for insurance valuation.etc. i have used these same services to document family vacations and other events.. surprisingly cost effective and people really respond well to getting a nice book style token of an event.

2017 most salient art releases, by daveart on Jan 9, 2018 15:52:41 GMT 1, There was a pretty good thread about this artwork last year when it came out .. you can google around to find that if you choose. or you can simply lash out at it and that will be that.
Not to speak for Fairey, the model, or photographer - but what you have cut out of this is the "We the People are Greater Than Fear" message at the bottom of the image. This artwork was in response to a specific situation in the USA regarding women's rights and tolerance. I can see how contextually it is a very complex situation and i dont disagree with the point you are raising. However, specific to the moment of the women's march in the USA and the travel ban and other things happening I think the artwork was successful. It raised literally a million or more dollars for awareness and seemed to be well received and well used and popped up around the world at other rallies for tolerance and awareness. Due to this i think it was certainly one of the more important art pieces in 2017. Also, dont forget it was part of a set with a Latino woman, Native American man, and an African woman .. etc. taking the message off the bottom and removing it from context of the other art work is not really the right starting point for analysis of the art.
Sheperd Fairey, no chance. A legend in his own mind who jumps on every virtue signalling bandwagon to promote his art despite the hypocrisy involved. Pandering to political islamists in the guise of feminism is a contradiction to say the least. Everyone knows or should know what the hijab represents.

Obey Giant Film, by daveart on Jan 2, 2018 21:12:32 GMT 1, Absolutely worth a watch. i watched this with my wife and when it was over i asked her "do you like his art more or less now" and she absolutely believed that seeing the path to creation and the struggles along the way made her appreciate the art and the artist more. I remember the chaotic times (already 10 years on ) with the hope poster and the lawsuit etc ..and seeing it from this fresh perspective really changed my impression of Shepard, his wife, and his overall efforts in what he is doing.

2017 most salient art releases, by daveart on Jan 2, 2018 21:09:05 GMT 1, Enjoying the thread so far and think the OP has a great start on three important pieces and on the technicality of when created i'll say 'moment' from 2017 for Libertรฉ. To that list i'll throw opinion out for two women .
1. Not sure there is a single piece of art to encapsulate her achievements in 2017 but Caledonia Curry- Swoon's museum show in Cincinnati appears to be an epic installation. As someone who has followed this scene just long enough it is mighty impressive to see her go from unknown street artist to massive museum show. Also important timing in the year in which it was done and her art is as soulful and for the people as it gets. That and she is just a fantastically nice person.
2. Original works by Sandra Chevrier - some on this forum start to talk her down a bit but I think she is yet early in her career. Her following only seems to grow and her art has a message that fits well with the time. The collaboration with Mario Testino photographs at the Helmut Newton foundation will, i think, stand the test of time. This event shows how major players see her as being an important voice in the current scene. Why do people here talk her down while Mario Testino and Helmut Newton foundation seek her out ... kind of shows where she is headed..

Jean-Michel Basquiat ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn, New York โข Graffiti Art , by daveart on Dec 28, 2017 18:04:18 GMT 1, Stop moaning and let the guy sell his prints, don't be mad because he has Basquiat prints and you don't. Those arenโt basquiat prints. They are estate posters. Why would I waste 40k on junk. Seems the buyers should be the mad ones. i said my piece above so I'll stop there. However, on the off chance you actually want to talk about the art and open your mind past the simple statements you are making maybe something could come of it. I, and many others including Pace Prints which is probably one of the more respected print houses in the world, disagree with you that these are simple posters. These are based on paintings done by Basquiat, reproduced in a high manner, represented by the artists estate, etc, etc i would venture of the 1000 steps to putting out a print 998 are basically the same whether the artist is alive or no. Step 101 might be 'artist approves the four images to use' and step 901 might be 'artist reviews and signs prints' These two steps - are important steps of course but that does not relegate these all the way down to being shabbily printed posters for an upcoming bake sale. This is my opinion. i respect yours. My opinion is of course backed by these selling out almost instantly for a combined huge sum of money. In the end though - i would if asked - request that the estate slow down this process to a very slow trickle rather than the every year or every other year run to the well.

Jean-Michel Basquiat ๐บ๐ธ Brooklyn, New York โข Graffiti Art , by daveart on Dec 27, 2017 23:33:15 GMT 1, getting sad that there are more posts on these sales threads about the 'why' and 'second guessing motives' than actually thinking and considering the art for sale.
These were sold as a set. it is not uncommon or unreasonable to only want to keep two of the four and it seems the seller was as open about that effort. While you guys were busy bitching about it appears someone actually bought something and will enjoy it for what it is.
