Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by daveart on Jul 7, 2008 15:08:40 GMT 1, Good point that some images are stronger and worth more consideration. I wonder how well unsigned edtions of 300+ will hold up over time.

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by daveart on Jul 7, 2008 14:50:04 GMT 1, With all the Faile work changing hands as people try to make room for the new work it seems there are nice Failes around for $2000 - $5000. A lot of the unsigned Banksy work can be had in that range as well. Would you rather have an unsigned Banksy or the much lower edition signed Faile?

DAVID CHOE advice (sorry not banksy related...!), by daveart on Jul 3, 2008 13:50:14 GMT 1, agree with achtungbono. for that kind of money i wouldnt want to spend it on a relatively new artist that hasnt withstood the test of time --- at least 20 years. If you like Choe - artists like warhol, Haring, Lichtenstein, Ruscha all have huge world wide followings and have good prints in your price range. Then again .. there is some artist out right now that will be selling originals for a few million in 30 years .... maybe its Choe. These other artists prints do not have that type of up side .. but probably stand a better chance of not becoming a huge financial loss in 20 years.

Faile/FairQ Update, by daveart on Jul 2, 2008 20:15:11 GMT 1, oh of course its a good deal. hey.. while you are helping me not talk "s**te" could you expand on... "people with deeper pockets will outmuscle the truer fans, who have less to spend!" I am not immediately catching on to that whole thing of 'truer fans' have less to spend - or that people with more money cant be fans? Faile is selling what half million dollars worth of art.. i personally dont care who it goes to. but also dont care if person one wants to spend $100 more than person 2.

Faile/FairQ Update, by daveart on Jul 2, 2008 20:02:02 GMT 1, nightmaresonwax - uh. dude. lay off the caffeine. I said "I suppose the next step for FairQ would ...." and "not saying they should do it .... " I bought the buy it now. not worried at all about these auctions.. but it is an interesting point to me that by bringing FairQ into the mix they have all kinds of options going forward. if you disagree.. please do so in a more respectable manner. thanks!

Faile/FairQ Update, by daveart on Jul 2, 2008 19:52:34 GMT 1, I suppose the next step for FairQ would be to allow each person to indicate the maximum they would pay for the piece. This woud allow them to sort the entries by price and take the top bidders and then choose reandomly from that smaller pool. Effectively ensuring the artist the market price the flippers would get on ebay. not saying they should do it .... but.. I would rather have the artest get the markup than anyone else.

FAILE - Buy It Now, by daveart on Jul 1, 2008 14:04:45 GMT 1, Good point Winter. I wouldnt have bought one if I knew i was going to get one of the fairQ prints. now if the fairQ print comes through I end up spending quite a bit more than intended. Probably some churning through Ebay as everyone sorts out based on whether or not they get the real print they wanted.

FAILE - Buy It Now, by daveart on Jun 30, 2008 21:26:33 GMT 1, On the chance Frankie is correct - and I have to think he is on this one - I picked one up. These were showing sold out for hours this morning. possibly they held some back or had some released after they sorted all the early orders.

New Nick Walker vs New Dolk, by daveart on May 30, 2008 21:43:54 GMT 1, Why did so many of the NW pieces end up on Ebay and the New Dolk Last Mona has only had a few ( currently 3) showing up for sale.
Does this mean people that bought Dolk's work really actually like it? Or does it mean you cannot sell it anyway so you have to keep it.
Or is it that I am just still surprised at the number of people that stood in line and put in so much effort to get the NW prints and then sold them at a very high rate.

Takashi Murakami Exhibit Brooklyn, by daveart on May 27, 2008 21:22:10 GMT 1, Murakami is interesting - he freely admits other people help him create and paint most of the pieces at this point - he is the "visionary" behind it all though.. same as Hirst spot prints I believe?
not sure the exact math.. but for round numbers:
10 new prints - Dobs and others 300 per edition $850 US per print - or so i heard....
$2,550,000 sold out in a few days. not bad at all. then you throw in the new canvases/ LV bags, etc.... the man is pulling in some serious cash.
I have five different Murakami prints in an office setting and they get a lot of attention.. they were more fun to buy when the DOB's were $500 though.. not sure i would buy them again at current prices ?? who knows.

Nick Walker Phenomenon, by daveart on Apr 21, 2008 2:29:28 GMT 1, I think some of NW pieces are really pretty cool. some of course are not. but this could be said for any artist.. or really .. an person doing their work day to day. some days good.. some days spent looking up football stats.
one NW series i rarely see mentioned on here is the Born 2 Bomb prints. i personally feel these are really very cool.. and unique. that cannot quite be said for the marge simpson prints.. hard really to believe it is the same guy..
really though... we cannot blame the artist for the hype .. unless we believe NW is coordinating all of these galleries, buyers, etc etc.
as an aside.. a lot of the Banksy pieces are really not high art in any stretch.. clever? absolutely. striking? of course.. but high end art like a Picasso or Monet or other big name preceeding him... i cannot personally stretch that far.

The history makers, by daveart on Apr 17, 2008 2:28:17 GMT 1, a bit new to all of this... but have also been collecting art since before Banksy came along. so I would respectfully point out that he is not really the start of a movement.. but possibly picking up from where keith Haring, Basquait would have gone had they not met untimely deaths. add in John Matos (crash) and others...and you get more of a continuum than a clean break with a new start? I believe these artists are already well shown in museums around the world - maybe save Crash - and valuations much much higher than any of the other artists listed so far have come close to.. will be interesting to see how this plays out .. only have 30 years to wait i guess. I hope they are all successful as I own a small bit from most of the names mentioned in the thread.. and if not .. we all have good art around for the ride.

Stolenartwork.co.uk Opinions- bit dodgy??, by daveart on Apr 15, 2008 20:21:41 GMT 1, I take it that the is not trying to unseat anyone.,, Just trying to make a living. my kid thought one of the star wars rip offs was funny.. so i bought it. what's the harm. not going to hang a $10000 banksy in my 9 year old's room. maybe the cost is a bit high? but .. MUCH cheaper than some of the alternatives . agree the site is very very poor. their customer service though was to notch. much better than other folks i have purchase from.
