50k this real?, by silvermyn on Nov 25, 2009 15:28:33 GMT 1, If the "NO BALL GAMES" sign was intact I would have happily written a cheque for the ยฃ50k. But the damage has ruined the whole thing for me so there is no way I'm paying more than ยฃ14 for it now.
If only they had unscrewed the fastenings instead of ripping them off the wall

Josรฉ Parlรก Print Release - Elms Lesters - 5th Dec, by silvermyn on Nov 24, 2009 17:51:40 GMT 1, Is it the case that Parla/Elms want his work to be more accessible? Forgive my ignorance but I just don't know enough about them.
Part of me just thinks that originals and watercolours aren't flying off the shelves these days so tapping the lower end of the market may be a shewd commercial move. After all, ยฃ240k if they all sells out is not chicken feed in this market

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by silvermyn on Nov 23, 2009 13:23:33 GMT 1, If it was purchased via eBay I would consider filing a dispute claiming the item was not as descibed and return it to the seller once you have had the money back. I disagree with this. It's not the sellers fault and if the buyer had wanted to do this they should have not signed for it and sent it back as the seller will no longer be able to claim.
You are right but that's not the way PayPal see it. Trust me, I've had to deal with this issue myself.
If the print has not been packed properly (bulletproof) and marked as delicate/fragile then the seller could still be on the hook. Also, damaged packaging is not always obvious so it's not necessarily fair to put the onus on the buyer just because they signed for it.
Damage is not really a problem if the seller insured the package to the full value; they should be able to claim the value of the print once they have returned the funds to the buyer. The problem with insurance is that that the buyer has no rights to claim under a policy that the seller took out.
Anyway, get loads of pictures of the packaging and don't throw any of it away.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by silvermyn on Nov 23, 2009 13:13:19 GMT 1, Sadly any repair (no matter how good) will devalue the print. Can I ask why you think this? It's amazing what can be done these days. Surely a print that has been repaired and the damage is no longer visible would not be affected? For example, Lee's 'Laugh Now' canvas - looks as good as new!
It's just the way it goes. Given the choice between an minty fresh one and a good as new repair I recon you'd pay a tad more for the minty fresh one. I know would...

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by silvermyn on Nov 23, 2009 12:43:01 GMT 1, Same thing happened with my S&S a while back but I was the seller
Sadly any repair (no matter how good) will devalue the print. If it was purchased via eBay I would consider filing a dispute claiming the item was not as descibed and return it to the seller once you have had the money back. Provided the print was properly insured then the seller should be able to claim back off RM.
Good luck with sorting it out.

Faile Flag โข Star Spangled Shadows Print, by silvermyn on Nov 20, 2009 14:25:19 GMT 1, Does it matter what number you get or is this just a personal preference? I got number 298... is that worse than one with a low number? it doesn't matter at all. i never checked what number mine was,i think it was on the back of the print? i'll check the coa.
Where there COA's...?

Faile Flag โข Star Spangled Shadows Print, by silvermyn on Nov 20, 2009 14:20:48 GMT 1, The prints are all the same so don't worry about that. I just like to have low numbers, especially where the edition size is large. No other reason than just personal preference.

Faile Flag โข Star Spangled Shadows Print, by silvermyn on Nov 20, 2009 13:54:57 GMT 1, The thing that annoued me about the FedEx letter was that ยฃ10.50 was the VAT charge (roughly 5%) and the remaining ยฃ10.00 was a FedEx advancement fee. I mean, who authorised FedEx to advance me money? Sure as hell wasn't me!
If they hold onto the print until the ยฃ10.50 is paid then fair enough but to pay it and then claim I owe them money because they gave me an advance is a bit much. A ยฃ10 charge on a ยฃ10.50 VAT bill is taking the p*55. Almost doubled the bill...
If 150 of the 300 prints came to the UK then FedEx made ยฃ1,500 out of advancing us all money. Cunning b*stards!
On the upside my print was numbered below 10 so I was please with that. A lovely print too

Nick Walker โข TMA Moscow, by silvermyn on Nov 11, 2009 18:31:42 GMT 1, Sorry it was a genuine question as I had heard the artist usually keeps some of a run back for themselves. Just wondered if it was the case here. I may still be in with a chance of winning then so will keep the old chocolate fingers crossed until 6. I might be wrong but I beleive that Nick keeps No1 for himself and any for friends & family normally come from the a/p run, I don't beleive any from the normal run are held back, I know Nick pretty well and that sort of favour has not been done for me, despite heavy hints!!!!!
You are wrong, as I got a No1 from an edition and NW doesn't know me from Adam

Problem with Opus gallery, by silvermyn on Nov 9, 2009 17:19:20 GMT 1, At least the payment indicates that Opus aren't going under as quickly as some on here seem to think.
I'd certainly think twice about dealing with them if this is the way they treat their artists. It's hard to understand why they think they can get away with treating people like this. Customer service is so important for galleries. I'm very surprised that they have not offered an explanation or appology to you Jeff but they cetainly lost any cofidence I had in them as a reputable gallery.
Thank you for putting us all on notice.

Problem with Opus gallery, by silvermyn on Nov 6, 2009 18:04:30 GMT 1, Hi.
I'd always suggest putting something in writting requesting a response within 10 days. Phone calls are easy not to return but if you put something in writing it gets things formalised and the other party is on notice.
If you don't hear back from them and you're talking sub ยฃ5k then the small claims process is your best bet. It's cheap and you can do it all yourself. There is loads of information on it if you google "small claims court".
Hopefully you'll get your money without hassle on the back of the letter. Best of luck with it.

Faile Flag โข Star Spangled Shadows Print, by silvermyn on Nov 6, 2009 15:50:52 GMT 1, "1986 has its significance to us as the year the space shuttle Challenger exploded. It is sort of one of those things where everyone knows where they were when it happened. A dramatic moment that is marked in your memory forever. Much like 9/11 or when JFK was shot I imagine. It had a big impact on us when we were young."

what to do?, by silvermyn on Oct 30, 2009 10:33:17 GMT 1, Definately wait a couple of days at least. It's not like you're out of pocket in the mean time. If you've not heard back by the end of the week I'd drop another email and wait a few more days. Who knows what's going on at the other end of the information superhighway.
Should you not hear back ultimately you can always leave negative feedback
