# WithSyria, by Bill Hicks on Feb 6, 2022 13:25:45 GMT 1, I have never seen this image before! 😍🥰❤❤❤ And I know it has been around for a while but for some reason, until now, it hasn't come into my life! It's Nearly 500,000 people have been killed in the decade-long civil war in Syria since the Syrian revolution on March 15, 2011, informed the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). The unrest in Syria began in 2011 as part of a wider Arab Springs protest and has escalated from discontent against the Syrian government to an armed conflict. The conflict has devastated cities and displaced millions of people. In a statement, the SOHR said that since the revolution began, as many as 494,438 people have been killed as of May 30, 2021. At least 159,774 Syrians, out of which 119,591 were men, 25,048 children and 15,135 women, were killed.

Banksy dismaland $1 note, by Bill Hicks on Jan 29, 2022 12:16:37 GMT 1, I think he's naive. we moved to PM and he just parroted the same line; 'bought from a dealer associated with Maddox' i was thinking it was Xavier trying to sell the fakes, which Michael said was the case. Xavi had PMd Michael with some pieces for sale. Either way, there are a lot of people who don't research and get mugged off If Michael Heath is of good faith, then yes he's certainly naive. It would also be a case of wishful thinking and confirmation bias clouding his judgement. We often believe what we want to believe, and instinctively dismiss or rationalise any evidence that contradicts those beliefs. That is the very opposite of what Julia Galef refers to as the "scout mindset". Each one of us, to a greater or lesser extent, is vulnerable to this kind of thinking. Even scientists and researchers sometimes fall prey, despite generally being acutely aware of the risk. An additional problem is that "Hoodwinked people embrace their misperceptions."*The adage is as old as it is familiar: It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.__________ On the plus side, Heath appears open to engaging in discussion. For the time being, he may refuse to believe he was conned, at least when this truth is coming from yourself. But if the very same truth were communicated to him by Steve Lazarides, Maddox Gallery in London, and/or Pest Control Office, then presumably this could be more successful in shaking his conviction regarding the authenticity of his Golf Sale on cardboard. And so, the only thing that should be required here is for Heath to carry out the most basic of verification exercises — by reaching out to the above (any one or two of them, or all three) and asking a simple question. If he truly believes his piece to be genuine, then there are no disadvantages, only benefits, in him getting a direct response from those whose supposed authentications or valuations he is currently relying upon. __________ Let's make it easy for Heath. He can just use one of the templates below. Adding photos of the front and back of the artwork would be helpful and courteous, but arguably not even necessary. 1. Dear Steve,
I am writing to you about a spraypainted artwork on cardboard featuring Banksy's Golf Sale image and Banksy's tag at the bottom-right corner. POW Successor, by Bill Hicks on Jan 24, 2022 12:08:34 GMT 1, MANIFESTO
Art is not like other culture because its success is not made by its audience. We, the public, fill concert halls and cinemas every day. We read novels by the millions and buy records by the billions. We, the people, affect the making, the taste and the quality of our culture.
The Art we look at, however, is made by only a select few. A small group create, promote, purchase, exhibit and decide the success of Art. Not more than 5000 people in the world have any real say. When you go to an Art gallery you are simply a tourist waving flags at a parade. A parade where the winner was decided without you.
We want to make Art that charts. We thought of calling it a revolutionary new way to sell Art but it's not revolutionary. It's just cheap.
The malls are coming out of the walls.

Billy Childish 🇬🇧 Print Release • Show News • Art For Sale, by Bill Hicks on Jan 14, 2022 20:38:04 GMT 1, L-13 !!HAPPY NEW YEAR!! many thanks for all your continued support despite the trying times
TALKING OF WHICH We've spent the first part of the year negotiating the mind-f**kery of Brexsh*t.
After many returned parcels and the realisation that our EU friends are now having to pay import duties on some items on top of VAT on top of handling charges, we investigated various options to make things cheaper and easier.
In the end we've settled for offering TAX FREE shopping for all international orders.
This won't cut out all the problems but will hopefully take the sting out of the tail.
Other than that, we can only apologise on behalf of the 17 million woefully ill-informed minority that that thought leaving the EU was a good idea.
FURTHERMORE
As certain products such as clothing and household goods seem to demand an extra import levy from some countries we have now re-assigned T-shirts and Hi-Viz jackets as PRINTED ARTWORKS & mugs as SCULPTURES
We are allowed to do this as Our Dear Leader has recently shown us that laws and rules are only there to be interpreted as one feels and, if necessary, broken!
THIS also forces our hand to acknowledge (yet again) that Billy Childish was right and Re-issue for the 2nd (or is it the 3rd) time, the forever pertinent, classic Boris poster CONFIRMED You're a C**T

# WithSyria, by Bill Hicks on Jan 13, 2022 18:01:14 GMT 1, This is an email from Hussein Ghrer, a survivor of the Syrian regime’s torture. He is outside the German court where today, the first senior Syrian official was jailed for crimes against humanity.
Dear,
The verdict is in. Today a German court convicted Anwar Raslan, a former Syrian intelligence colonel, for crimes against humanity. He was given a life sentence. For thousands of survivors like me, who were arbitrarily detained and tortured at the al-Khatib state security branch that he headed between 2011 and 2012 in Damascus, it’s a day we never thought we’d see.
I was detained twice by the Syrian regime for over three years and brutally tortured. First in 2011 in al-Khatib, and then in 2012 after a raid on the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression where I worked.
During the time Raslan was in charge at al-Khatib more than 4,000 people like me were tortured there, and at least 58 are believed to have died as a result. Today the court found him guilty of being the co-perpetrator of thousands of acts of torture, 27 murders and cases of sexual violence and other crimes. This verdict will not bring justice to all Syrians, but it is nevertheless a significant achievement.
While Anwar Raslan is just one of hundreds of members of Bashar al-Assad’s state-sponsored torture apparatus, his individual conviction carries a much wider meaning. It is a damning indictment of the systematic abuses by the Syrian regime as a whole. Now any state that contemplates re-establishing ties with Assad, or forcing refugees to return to Syria, does so knowing the mass violence the Syrian regime is responsible for.
I experienced the horror of being forcibly disappeared in Syria and it is what drove me to leave my country. I fled because I did not want my family to experience again the horror of not knowing – did they kill him? Is he still alive?
Yet it is hard to celebrate this verdict when over 100,000 people are still forcibly disappeared in Syria. When Assad still detains and tortures men, women and children today. True justice can only be achieved when all those responsible for war crimes in Syria are held accountable and only with the freedom of all Syria's detainees.
When I decided to testify in this trial I couldn’t be sure what impact it would have, but I couldn’t refuse the opportunity to play a part, however small, in the struggle for justice. This is just the beginning of our struggle for more comprehensive accountability. I sincerely hope that today’s verdict will add pressure on the UN Security Council to refer Syria to the International Criminal Court, so senior officials within the Syrian regime can be prosecuted for their war crimes.
Please join me in calling for wider justice at the highest levels so we can build a different future for Syria. Share this photo from outside the court today with your message of solidarity for all the Syrian survivors who bravely testified over the past two years.

UV Protection Glass • Museum Glass, by Bill Hicks on Dec 6, 2021 20:36:44 GMT 1, Presumably, even with Museum Glass we shouldn't hang things in direct sunlight. But I have question, which is, if I were to have prints framed behind museum glass AND the UV layer stuff you can get for your windows, could I then consider doing so? Got a wall in my home office that is empty because it gets some harsh sunlight at the moment, but would love to get a piece/pieces up on that wall! (Shutters/blinds could help too of course, but that's not getting done until I get some other refurbishments done.) With respect to light-sensitive pieces in your collection, the following should be seen as conflicting interests: 1. Being able to actually view, enjoy and fully experience the art, including by hanging it. 2. The long-term preservation of the art, including its protection from light damage. Although collectors typically want 1 and 2, it isn't possible to perfectly satisfy both. Some tradeoff is always necessary. And it's up to each of us to discover the right balance — to find the compromise position most suited to our individual needs. __________ On the subject of light damage, a common misconception is that one's focus should rest solely on UV light. This ignorance is understandable, because it's so rare for glazing suppliers or framers to specifically address other types of light. And while UV is the most damaging, all light can be harmful to works of art, especially those on paper. In my book, anti-UV glazing is very much a worthwhile investment. But even premium products that block up to 99% of UV rays (e.g. Tru Vue Optium Museum Acrylic) will offer no protection against damage caused by visible light. I've commented on the issue a few times in the past. Two of those occasions are linked below for reference and additional information: * - 21 December 2018 - Window treatments thread. * - 30 August 2020 - Banksy™ Thrower print, Gross Domestic Product™ thread.
Presumably, even with Museum Glass we shouldn't hang things in direct sunlight.
