Obey Giant Film, by toshspice on Jan 2, 2018 19:20:04 GMT 1,
Im very surprised there's not much on here about the Obey Giant documentary from last year.
Whatever you think of Shep's work, he'll be a major part of US history it comes to Street Art.

Christopher Wool Painting Destroyed, by toshspice on May 4, 2017 22:58:50 GMT 1, Destroys? well if that isnt a bit over the top as an explanation god knows what is! Looks like a couple of slashes with a razor blade or stanley blade so should be easy fixed. Bloody pointless thing to do, cant imagine what the hell he got out of doing it!
It's a PR job. Wool just got himself a whole heap of publicity.

Invader...Yes /No... discuss, by toshspice on Jan 30, 2017 11:37:27 GMT 1, Nice work but needs to be doing something regularly spectacular to make the long term leap into Banksy's orbit. Unless a high end gallery gets hold of him, in which case he's made and none of what I've just said makes a blind bit of difference.

Paddle8 Auctions ๐บ๐ฒ BANKRUPT , by toshspice on Jan 16, 2017 18:09:47 GMT 1, The problem with Paddle 8 is there's no results database. Why hide the very thing that drives interest to your business?
According to their website this is "because we value your comfort and discretion, we never disclose results...." This protects Paddle 8, not the client.

Your view on Banksy?, by toshspice on Jul 17, 2016 15:34:55 GMT 1, If someone is dumb enough to publish something that makes them, rather than their target, look like an intellectual black hole, then mission accomplished. But that wasn't your point. You highlighted this as an example of good critical writing. It isn't. In your opinion. Maybe you could go through the blog and highlight the parts you don't like. It's different strokes for different folks I guess. Some see Banksy as a witty genius and others see him as full of self importance with in reality very little to say of importance but at least his fans like it.I e. Many art critics are failed artists. It allows them to deflect attention from their own inadequacies.

Your view on Banksy?, by toshspice on Jul 15, 2016 15:59:26 GMT 1, Unfortunately, the World is full of gobby bloggers like this. I'm sure you're winding us all up but what you've highlighted here is an appallingly unconvincing piece of writing. Rather than make Banksy look a t**t, the article makes the writer look like a clueless, embittered bag of hot air. The last paragraph is a wonderful testament to someone who is desperately trying to appear opinionated by making an important point, but who ends up making no point at all. What in fuck's name does this actually mean? "His street paintings often show rats apparently to indicate that we are all unthinking members of the โrat raceโ. It seems the main reason he paints on the street is because he wants to insult the man in the street directly. Yet now his โartโ is selling for thousands of dollars and pounds. Itโs the picture-frame equivalent of the Project Red Amex card or the backstage pass at Live8. It doesnโt mean anything, but owning one just might - for a split second - fool other people into thinking that you do."Where would we be without gobby bloggers and art critics? People are entitled to their opinion and I guess for people who disagree, they can always read Jo Brooks twitter timeline.T If someone is dumb enough to publish something that makes them, rather than their target, look like an intellectual black hole, then mission accomplished. Is it just me or do Kunstrasen's pieces work so much better on the street than they do on canvas/print?

The Banksy Job (trailer), by toshspice on Apr 20, 2016 16:15:02 GMT 1, The Guardian hate Banksy - well their critic Jonathan Jones certainly does - so they are not going to fall in love with a lesser-known street artist who is jumping the Banksy bandwagon. Tribeca is clever marketing. Jonathan Jones may not be a fan, but the Guardian don't hate Banksy. Indeed, they've got a signed Tesco Petrol Bomb on display in their office. I'm talking about The Guardian's editorial stance, not their taste in wall decor. If anything it makes them hypocrites, not Banksy fans. Whether you like AK47 or not, you only have to read the Banksy Job film review - where the reviewer takes the piss out of AK47s northern accent - to realise they can never quite disguise their smug sense of southern self-satisfaction. And no, I'm not from up north.

The Banksy Job (trailer), by toshspice on Apr 20, 2016 13:19:31 GMT 1, The Guardian isn't exactly the target market. However, as AK47 himself admits in the trailer: 'Nothing is beyond the realms of taking the piss." What do you perceive as the target audience? They chose to launch at The Tribeca Film Festival - probably full of Guardian not Sun readers! The Banksy Job (trailer), by toshspice on Apr 19, 2016 22:33:27 GMT 1, Say what you like about this but Linky is a true character in a scene that needs more of them. I have to agree, met Andy on more than one occasion and although you can hear him before he's walked in the room he is a one off, does what he wants but not to the detriment of others, just don't try to track down any of his earlier film work, it's not pleasant by all accounts.
The Banksy Job film was bankrolled by crowd funding.
Some of the perks for funders are entertainment in themselves, including a digital high five (whatever that is), a heart-shaped mirror with the words f**k OFF written on it and and dinner at Claridges with AK47.
Despite this they still managed to raise ยฃ15k towards production costs.

The Banksy Job (trailer), by toshspice on Apr 18, 2016 16:04:40 GMT 1, I'd take issue with the strap line ' The Insane Story Of The Heist That Shocked The Art World' Firstly, it didn't; no-one could give a f***, especially as very few people knew who Banksy was at this point in his career. But then again calling it 'The Inane Story That No-one Cares About' probably won't sell.
I can't pass proper judgement as I've not seen it, and therein lies the dilemma: it might be quite good. I think the production credit "Graveytrain" gives some (wrongly spelled) indication of where this is coming from. The success of ExitTTGS and Banksy's profile are convenient hooks to hang the investment + marketing on. Anything that perpetuates the Banksy legend (whether real or spun by the wheels of PR) just adds fuel to an increasingly lucrative fire.

Eelus 3D Lenticular "Not Everything Is So Black & White", by toshspice on Mar 23, 2016 18:29:26 GMT 1, Interested to know what artistic input Eelus (and other artists) had/have in this project - it's AR`s idea, did they just select all the most sought after images of recent years, then ask the artists permission to use the images in question offering to cover all cost`s and cross the artist`s hands with pieces of Gold as a thank you?
And your point?

Online Art Auction sites: best and worst?, by toshspice on Mar 21, 2016 23:21:00 GMT 1, Anyone had experience bidding on or consigning to the higher end art online auction sites like Artnet, Paddle 8 or Sotheby's?
I wondered who was producing the best returns?
I know Paddle 8 doesn't publish results which doesn't help or inspire confidence.
