Inside Art Collectors Homes, by toshspice on Dec 4, 2015 15:49:19 GMT 1, Banksy Flying Copper on the wall. Look's like a lot of sunshine will come through that huge piece of glass, No one want's a faded banksy!! put it in a cupboard just to be sure I agree though, very nice pad.
This is one of my favourite Banksy images. However, if the print is behind a mount - and it looks like it is - any fading will show up against the covered part of the print if its ever taken out of the frame/mount. Worth considering having it floated on the back board.

You can tell immediately from the photo that it's Invader as his face looks exactly like his art.

Is 'Art' different from 'Design'?, by toshspice on Dec 2, 2015 18:00:35 GMT 1, Here's a design studio making art out of statistics to show the human cost of global warming. It's simple yet powerful. Plug in your speakers for maximum effect.

Girl with Balloon, Donuts, Love Rat, WSM, Nola@Bonhams 24/11, by toshspice on Dec 1, 2015 15:25:29 GMT 1, I think you'd be surprised how many people on this forum would pay £60k for this print. I think it's absurd that people pay £20k for an unsigned print that we all know Banksy has had nothing to do with, other than tell his printing company you can sell it under my name. No different to a w c p really. I'm still struggling to convince myself to buy an unsigned barcode for £7.5 k but at least that has a red stamped signature .
I remember a time when people were struggling to put their hands in their pockets for £1,200 for a signed Kate or £6k for a LIITA canvas from Santa's Ghetto.
Ten years ago you could pick up a Warhol print for £6-£7k. Now you're looking at £30k +.
Banksy is already a bigger part of art history than the art establishment will ever acknowledge - at least while he's still alive - because all they ever do is look back.
You could argue that £7.5k isn't too high a price to pay for owning a piece of art history. Depends how much you really want it.

Teddy riot for red stik baby ???, by toshspice on Nov 30, 2015 17:39:51 GMT 1, I don't get stik, his images are too simple for me and doesn't look like they take much skill / creativity. This is such a cringing comment. Bet the first person who saw the invention of the wheel said the same thing. You can't knock a man for being honest - and certainly not with that analogy (unless of course it was a limited edition wheel, in which case: carry on). However this may open the floodgates for an open debate on what makes Stik so attractive as an artist. Anyone?

PRYCE LEE, by toshspice on Nov 30, 2015 17:29:21 GMT 1, There is nothing objectionable in Frank Cohen's advice on collecting — bar the fact he's just spouting platitudes in this BBC article. And given the man's stature, that seems almost criminal. I expected a less disappointingly-dull read from him. As for up-and-coming artists he has an eye on, Cohen citing a few names may actually dissuade many from following his banal recommendation of "Buy what you like." What these types of lists achieve in practice is often the opposite. They can encourage people to continue being sheep, follow the herd, and collect with their ears rather than their eyes. That includes paying excessive, even obsessive, attention to what others are buying — especially if those others happen to be multi-millionaire art collectors like Cohen. Perhaps this is one reason why you occasionally get people saying they "want to like" a particular artist's work, or they feel they "should like" the work. What is the reason or motivation for such a mindset? I find it baffling and alienating. Why is it banal to recommend that people but what they like (unless the purpose of buying is as an investment, of course)?
I think the banality comes from the interviewer, not the interviewee. It's the journo's job to make the piece interesting. Perhaps they should let Frank's hairdresser interview him next time.

While the article may have been bordering on the banal, Frank's hair remains magnificent.

Nick Smith 🇬🇧 Pixelated Art • Colour Swatches • New Print, by toshspice on Nov 30, 2015 16:34:25 GMT 1, It looks best if you squint at it. [...] With this print, we'll have to agree to disagree — if not on aesthetic appeal (squinting or not squinting), then at least on what qualifies as "Crackin". All I see is an Asian Hitler in drag.
No squinting required for this Marilyn wannabe by Scott King. All I see is Madonna dressed up as a Nazi.

Dismaland Horse Scaffolding Statue, by toshspice on Nov 3, 2015 11:53:56 GMT 1,
I don't know about the print, but the sculpture itself was quite extraordinary in it simplicity and one of the best pieces at Dismaland. His "Dog" and "Stag" are also impressive, not least because one of them was commissioned by a local council...

Jean-Michel Basquiat 🇺🇸 Brooklyn, New York • Graffiti Art , by toshspice on Oct 21, 2015 21:28:19 GMT 1, I had always been told that icons was in production when Haring passed away, hence the lack of signature. That it was not some shady deal by the estate. I was referring to the estate's backstory that Haring "had intended to release" the icon series shortly before his death. Anyway moving on... Not a fan myself but was a nice sized OG at the new Broad when I visited last week.
I love this piece.
