Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Martin M on Feb 7, 2023 12:23:20 GMT 1,
I dropped in to Heni to see these in the flesh yesterday, and they actually look more interesting than I expected. One thing which became immediately apparent was that anyone considering buying to hang needs to give careful thought to where they'll be hanging them. To my mind, neither Camouflage nor Country Life (nor Marilyn to a certain extent) worked at all when viewed from any closer than about 3 metres. I wouldn't consider either of these for a small room or a hall or stairway. Perhaps that's one reason for the cube image โ it's simple enough to work, at least kind-of, close-up. That said, the cube is still far and away my least favourite of the four. To my eye, Marilyn was surprisingly effective โ far more so than country life, which I found impossible to really process, no matter where I was viewing it from. Maybe it's just because Marilyn is such an iconic image that my brain found it easy to interpret and to fill in all the missing detail, whereas Country Life just looked too blocky and lacking in detail to work for me. For those that love the image it might well be a very different story. As for the selection of images, they may not be to everyone's taste โ is anything ever to everyone's taste? โ but I got the impression that the artist was heavily involved in the selection process. That won't make them any more appealing to the haters, of course... but let's at least put the responsibility where it belongs. Up close, the photographic origins of the images really comes through, disappointingly. Standing in front of them, I really couldn't convince myself that they were anything other than photographic reproductions, although of extremely high quality. On the plus side, they do have a lot more life and character than I was expecting. All the detail of the original images is preserved, the obvious involvement of the human hand in assembling them, and the big, heavy chunks of resin gives them a real solidity. And of course, the majority of prints are photographic repdroductions, ultimately, so I see no reason to be especially hard on these particular ones on that basis. At least two, and arguably three, of the four are strong images. All are well reproduced and immaculately presented, and they fulfill Heni's aim of making high-end art accessible. Where else are you going to get a signed Invader at this price? I'm really confused about this one. I hoped seeing them up close would help me reach a decision, but if anything it's made it even more difficult. The cube and Country Life are, for me, an easy pass, but Camouflage and Marilyn are genuinely impressive pieces I'd be happy to hang โ if I had enough wall and floor space. But 3 grand isn't cheap for a giclee, and I don't, as a rule, buy giclees. Although there's always an exception to every rule. Five more days to decide... Hope this helps anyone who's as uncertain as I am. Really good, well written helpful post Rockbeer.

R.I.P TREVORM , by Martin M on Nov 28, 2022 21:59:43 GMT 1, It's with great sadness I write this post to inform you that we have sadly lost a good friend and longstanding forum member and all round top bloke! Most of you would have known him on here as Trevorm but to some of us he was good old Trev. Sadly Trev lost his battle with cancer last week after fighting Leukemia courageously for over a year. Trev was truly the best of people and those who knew him will back me in saying what a great guy he was. He contributed massively to this community for well over a decade with his upbeat positive attitude, knowledge and I must say he loved an art deal and a biscuit! I have decided to hold a raffle in Trev's memory to raise some funds for Cancer Research UK. I first met him trying to buy a Banksy print many moons ago so it seems fitting to offer up some of my Banksy goodies for somebody to win. I have set up a JustGiving page, the link is posted below. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/trevorm-artIn addition to the Banksy bundle I'm also giving the lucky raffle winner a years supply of McVities Hobnobs (its what Trev would have wanted!). Ok, so here is the 'deal'. I understand its tough times for people so please only give what you can afford to donate. This is about helping an important charity in memory of a great guy....please no negative comments on this thread. To be clear, the JustGiving link is open to those that wish to just donate to the charity but I have added the raffle as I think its in the spirit of what my mate would have liked. If you wish to just donate there is no need to put your name. If you wish to enter the raffle please make your donation shall we say ยฃ5 an 'entry' but add your name, email and forum name to the JustGiving donation info section with your donation. Feel free to give more if the charity means more to you or if you can. The size of donation WILL NOT effect the outcome of the raffle. I'm running the fundraiser until the end of Jan '23 and the winner will be selected in the first week of Feb '23. This is my first attempt at this so let's hope it works and raise some funds for this amazing charity. I will select the lucky winner at random....method to be confirmed and transparent (no funny business). I will post the winner on here and contact them directly to make arrangements. So here is the bundle: Banksy Di-Face Tenner (Genuine) Banksy Box Set (Walled Off Hotel receipt) Banksy Pallestine poster (Walled Off Hotel receipt) Banksy Peckham Rock (British Museum receipt) Banksy Forgive Us Our Trespassing poster (Don't panic double sided, folded) Banksy Walled Off Hotel T-Shirt and Pearly Gates postcard (Bought direct by me at the hotel in the first week it opened) McVities Hobnobs (more than you can get through!) Good luck and thanks in advance to all that donate from me (and Trev) Lovely gesture Pidge! Lost my mum in 2020 to this horrible disease. RIP Trevorn, always read his posts.

Recommended Art Books, by Martin M on Oct 2, 2022 17:47:37 GMT 1, Just finished - Antony Gormley on Sculpture. Really enjoyed it, great fan of his, been to every UK show he's done and they are the best shows I've been to. So im guessing you saw FIELD damn what i would give to see them on display, in my top 10 fav pieces of art of all time. Yes, i remember it well. i stood for maybe half hour looking at all the little faces looking up at me, it was captivating!

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Martin M on Sept 25, 2022 17:13:45 GMT 1, that looks really good. but how do you achieve the floating in the front with the back all cut out? is floating reversible? He cut out the foam core so that there is just a small strip around the paper to hold it all together and still give the floating look. I think its worked really well.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Martin M on Sept 4, 2022 10:58:26 GMT 1, Is that float mounted on the front side? Very nice. Floating floating floating floating around yes, float mounted on foam core. Changed the layout a bit, Tenners didn't look right above the Hirst. The Hirst really pops so i think it has to be on its own

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Martin M on Jul 19, 2022 18:13:03 GMT 1, A very hot trip into town today and picked up our physical Currency - very exciting and a lovely chat at the gallery and the artwork is really great. I thought the Heni frame was really good but maybe could be done slightly better so decided to head to the framers - White frame floated on foam core, back exposed, museum glass - very slightly bigger than the Heni 400x300. Ill post a pic when i get it back. Still tempted to buy a NFT!! rubbish at decisions!
