Most importantly at least to me his work continues to flow with movement and beauty while bringing in the urban environment.
Very painterly.
Overrated and overpriced, Overall. He's quite hot, actually, and has been building steadily over the last 3-4 years. He rented my lower space in Brooklyn in 2010-11 for his past show at Bryce Wolkowitz in Chelsea, Jose a wonderful fellow and although gone a number of the walls have his marks on them. The beginning of January had him unveil a major commission at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn (a big sports arena) and earlier in 2012 he unveiled a major commission at BAM. He gets quite a bit of corporate work from high-paying companies in addition to his rapidly rising prices from his shows. Most importantly at least to me his work continues to flow with movement and beauty while bringing in the urban environment. Very painterly. |

Canvas work is good, the newsprint work is not very good at all. I agree. I really love the canvas pieces. Some of his best yet. The works on paper just seem weak to me. Maybe it will be different in person. |

Jose was a total legend, signing everything and taking photos with everyone - even though he was pretty much mobbed from the moment he walked in until we all left for the after party!
It was really nice to chat and catch up with most of the forum members in attendance.
Some heavy hitters in attendance, as you would expect for Haunch.
Nice also to chat to KAWS, Rey Parla, and Lee Baker. Simon De Pury made an appearance with his other half.
My understanding was that by the time I left...the canvases had pretty much sold out.
Finished the night at the private view and party for the David Breuer-Weil show at the Old Vic Tunnels.
