We have seen it time and time again if you have lost points the very worst thing you can do is make more posts moaning about it coz it normally causes you to loose more. I think some of you just need to accept that if they continue to post such strongly worded messages on these forums you are bound to upset some people its just a fact of life! you cant blame the system. I know you like blaming me for all the problems under the sun but your respect score is controlled by YOUR actions. If you have upset people you WILL loose points if your friendly and helpful you WILL gain points.
I have to agree with you Silky, if someone is moaning about getting negged, I tend to look to see why they may have got negged, as I am sure other do, which in turn may lead to them geting negged more!
just contribute to the forum, express your opinion, and ignore the counter under your name, and it will soon increase!
oh, and don't be surprised if you get negative karma if you come on selling things, acting like you are doing everyone a favour trying to sell them a print for double what they could have bought it for before it was sold out the day before, people don't like it!

"censorship" and negging. i have in the past been quite vocal about both and got in to trouble and also been proved wrong. the respect system is what it is, my gripe is that is discourages people to say what they really think. to counter that though it also makes people think twice before they post.
as for "censorship", again i have been more than vocal in the past but time has taught me that someone has to be in control and that one person's fair game is another's pure disgust, we all have different threasholds. i would prefer it if there were some kind of explanation but there will always be those who disagree so sometimes it's best to draw a line under it and move on.
the buck has to stop with someone and they have to make a decision, that will never be 100% appreciated so if you don't agree with it don't sweat, there will be as many who do, such is life, we can't all agree on everything.
it's easy to go an a witch-hunt and blame the system but at the end of the day we are all responsible for what we write. i would love to make this a 'fuck', 'wanker' and 'cunt' acceptable zone but it's not my shout. probably a good thing

I don't think this is going anywhere.
IMO, It's not the respect system that is the real problem, it is peoples fear of being negged that is the real issue. ABC and Rupert have massive respect from members of this forum, which has come from their honest views and help. Sometimes however their views have been perceived as controversial and this has resulted in a reduction in their points total rather than an honest debate. However, in reality it hasn't affected the high regard in which they're held by members of the forum.
So as long as a person isn't being offensive or abusive, they should say what they believe and forget about the fear of being negged. That is a form of self censorship.
Should say that I could add loads more names to the above list, but it would take all night.

With all due respect (y'see what I did there?) that's bollox. I just typed something and have deleted it to re-type what you are reading because I fear it will be amended/deleted. Out of interest I will retype to see what will happen - the argument quoted above is what any dictatorship/totalitarian regime would quote. If you are a party member - you say the right thing and get to ride in the big car.
Y'see, I've done about £4ks worth of trades with people on this board and ended up on negative respect. Then, one day, I put a small post about random songs on an ipod and the Sisters of Mercy and my respect went up to where it currently is (8 - and probably dropping). My point is - respect is not about help - it is about approval. My argument has come full circle and we're back to party membership. Funny thing is - all manner of disrespectful organisations respect each other...
Point being - why can't we make our own minds up on each and every interaction...?
