Le Tour 2013, by bristolboy on Jul 4, 2013 18:33:06 GMT 1, Sagan green and Froome yellow. I'm really hoping Contador is on form too, just to make the mountains less dull than last years race.
Would enjoy watching Dan Martin take a stage too.

I have to agree. I think injury will be the only thing that keeps Froome out of yellow. Froome looks to be in great form and sky have great strength in depth. Once again they have the best two in the field IMO. Porte will also podium
Not sure Cav has the appetite to fight for green this year, stage wins wil be his priority as usual, and if that brings green it will be a bonus

Le Tour 2013, by Deleted on Jul 7, 2013 0:01:48 GMT 1, After today I'd have to agree on Froome. I must admit before the race I didn't think he'd have the legs over Contador but he just outclassed everyone today on the first real test of the race. Froome's a great time trialist too so there's no problem in that department.
Yep I'll say Sagan all the way for the Green jersey. That guy can get up the hills so much better than the other sprinters and pick up more points that way as well as having a mean sprint himself.
As usual the KOM jersey is up for anyone who can climb well and is willing to really go for it on one or two days and try and mop up all the points.
I think it's gonna be a good race.

Either way, they're super human these lot, anyone who's had to try to ride up a mountain rather than a hill would understand.

On another note, after seeing the total destruction if Valverde yesterday in the crosswinds in what was supposed to be an 'easy' day and Froome losing a minute to Contador maybe this race isn't as clear cut as some people were thinking.
Exciting stuff : )

Sky seem up against, so many injuries and 'off days' though Froome still looks to be the strongest rider in the race. All in all I can't remember a more exciting tour and yet Mont Ventoux and Alpe d'huez are still to feature.

Le Tour 2013, by Deleted on Jul 14, 2013 0:05:15 GMT 1, Yes Mt Ventoux is going to be a cracker alright.
Going off topic slightly but am I the only person who actually thinks that Contador shouldn't even have a professional licence? He's a great rider and exciting to watch but the guy's now failed two drugs tests. One failed test is bad enough and a ban should deal with it but two failed tests just shows him to be a serial cheat who will always now have a big question mark over his honesty and integrity.

Totally agree, for years I loved following the tour but you learn about the cheating and it makes you think "yeah Induriun & co must have been taking everything". For for me it's lost it's appeal, they reckon Cadel Evans 2 years ago was first ever straight winner. They should have a 'drugged up' tour and just leave them go nuts. I live in Sydney on outskirts of national park (cycling heaven) and my mate who rides says even the sunday riders are all on the juice. I remember drinking a glass of 'ultimate orange' before going on my mountain bike route years ago. It was better than speed... Nearly had a heart attack, my hair was standing on end but I knocked 10 mins off my quickest time and that's a legal substance!!

Le Tour 2013, by Deleted on Jul 15, 2013 17:16:09 GMT 1, Froome all the way!! The way he attacked Contador while still sitting in the saddle on Ventoux was astonishing.
Is this an off form Contador or just a 'clean' Contador we're seeing as he just hasn't got the legs this year.
On a side note - what is it with Andy Schleck these days? Did he just have one great year and that's it or is he just permanently 'not on form' these days as he's just not doing anything these days.

It could just be that Froome is dirty and the others are not (or less so right now). It was a very Lance like performance. Not saying I know he is dirty but I also don't know he isn't. If I was a betting man I'd bet on dirty.

Le Tour 2013, by Feral Things on Jul 15, 2013 19:13:16 GMT 1, The problem for any cyclist now is that they're competing in a sport which has been endemically dirty for generations. It must be incredibly frustrating for a clean cyclist to be suspected of doping just because they've trained very hard and won as a result, but to a certain extent the cycling authorities, the teams and many cyclists have destroyed their own sport. We've heard so many times how cycling has turned over a new leaf and how the Tour is clean but every cyclist I've supported since watching Claudio Chiappucci as a kid has eventually turned out to be dirty. Cycling may well now be clean but unfortunately past history would suggest this is just another false dawn.

Le Tour 2013, by Deleted on Jul 16, 2013 12:18:27 GMT 1, And herein lies the problem with professional cycling. There's been so many problems with doping in the past that anyone doing as well as Froome will come under suspicion.
I really really hope he hasn't been doping as that would hold suspicioun under the whole of Team Sky and put Wiggin's 2012 victory in doubt too.
What's more worrying for me about the past is not the doping but the alleged payments to the UCI doping lab by the US Postal team and the coverup afterwards. The fact that the UCI lab still refuses to release the details of Armstrong's first test (allegedly the drugs test he failed in the Tour Of Switzerland in 2001) shows that something rotten has been going on and people are still lying now.

Or even "mutant like" according to the ex Festina trainer - doping specialist. Another Tour wasted ;-( I'll go on record and say that I think you're wrong shootagain. The sport isn't clean... no sport is. But it's a hell of a lot cleaner than it was in recent years. Anyone can push 450 watts - if you're quoting stats like this you should know that - it's a case of how long you can push 450 watts for and under what conditions, in particular being able to sustain this effort and minimise the build up of lactic acid in the muscles. Team Sky's training is relentlessly geared to delivering this level of power output on a sustained and sustainable basis. It's all they do... day in, day out, for the winter months. That's why you don't see them 'surge' on mountains.
I respect your thoughts and opinions but it's become very easy to say 'all cyclists are dopers' when the sport has made and is making great efforts to clean itself up. An athlete like Froome deserves the benefit of the doubt - in my opinion that is.
peace and love
