Le Tour 2013, by kel on Jul 16, 2013 16:14:37 GMT 1, Amazes me how much criticism Froome gets and I can see why he is being called a drugs cheat.
Must have to do with being miles ahead of the only convicted drugs cheat at the front of the field Contador. In peoples minds if he is beating a drugs cheat he must be one as well. Give the lad the benefit of doubt and just recognise him for what he might well be a natural talent.

Le Tour 2013, by mmmike on Jul 16, 2013 18:32:48 GMT 1, I can give you my power data to show not everyone can push 450 watts. Maybe for a few seconds, maybe
I don't pay too close attention to anyones power numbers except my own. But a friend of mine who does follow these things closely says Froome performance wasn't just impressive (based on power output) compared to the rest of the field but may also compared to past performances by all the biggest drug cheats. If true and he is putting up sustained power numbers that would have crushed Lance and the gang then either Froome is also doping or he is a huge statistical anomaly.
hubblebubble comments that Sky trains all winter, What do you think the rest of them do? The training doesn't explain the performance difference with their peers and predecessors.

Le Tour 2013, by Hubble Bubble on Jul 16, 2013 20:37:04 GMT 1, And I agree 450 watts is a big ask but to the pros it isn't. Cav and the sprinters will often get up to 1000 watts but its unsustainable for long periods.

Doping? What the hell does one have to do with the other? Why not ask if Banksy is doping since he consistently does cooler work than MBW.

Le Tour 2013, by mmmike on Jul 17, 2013 1:04:15 GMT 1, And I agree 450 watts is a big ask but to the pros it isn't. Cav and the sprinters will often get up to 1000 watts but its unsustainable for long periods. The issue here isn't peak watts. That is a pretty meaningless number.
Like I said I don't know if he is dirty and I don't really care. His performance the other day was a huge anomaly so obviously suspicious. If he is clean he should be flattered by all the suspicion.
I'm just now watching the latest stage. Clean / dirty I'm finding the race entertaining. I'd rather the time gaps were closer but oh well.

Le Tour 2013, by Hubble Bubble on Jul 19, 2013 8:34:27 GMT 1, I see Froome struggled on The Big Alp yesterday coming in 7th behind Riblon, van Garderen, Moser, Quintana, Rodriguez and Porte. I also note a distinct lack of accusations (from media, not particularly referring to this thread) that the riders named above must be on drugs.
I also see that Team Sky have released Froome's recent performance data to L'Equipe (and offered it to WADA) who have refrained from publishing it but have handed it to their sports science expert of choice, Frederick Grappe. The data contained comprehensive figures from Froome's 18 ascents of Mont Ventoux over the past two years. On behalf of L'Equipe, Grappe confirmed:
'Grappe said that there is nothing abnormal about Froome's performances, after looking into various details, including power data which he suggested is coherent with the Kenyan-born Briton's profile and consistent with that of a rider who is clean of drugs.' (Daily Telegraph)
Mmmike - as for your question on 'what the hell does one have to do with the other', I'll agree it might seem a tenuous connection. However, your loaded and rhetorical question/statement "Sky trains all winter, What do you think the rest of them do? The training doesn't explain the performance difference with their peers" clearly indicates a strong belief that training alone cannot be responsible for improved performance. My assertion was that it can be and I used another sport to attempt to demonstrate how that could be the case. Apologies if the analogy was woolly.
I am now back from holiday and about to get back on my bike. I suspect my peak power output might be somewhere around 80 watts
My drugs are limited to pints of lager... maybe I'm missing a trick.
HB

Le Tour 2013, by balibob on Jul 19, 2013 11:11:32 GMT 1, ^ Doesn't happen often Hubble, but I totally agree with what you've said. People are getting faster and stronger all the time with more scientific training, diet etc. etc. I slightly understand, but totally disagree with people shouting 'drug cheat' every time someone excels in the cycling world, especially someone in the Sky team with the stance they have taken.
On a separate note, nice to see someone whose drug of choice is the same as mine, although I do switch to wine quite often to avoid that bloated feeling.

Yeah it doesn't work. I tried my own personal doping programme of lager and cider and it never improved my performance

There weren't any plans for these but it can't hurt to contact them direct via www.thetoaster.co.uk/#!contact/cgbd if you're interested. They'll be releasing new work soon so they might be included with that release.
