10 years from now I should have bought a....??, by Deleted on Aug 8, 2013 21:27:27 GMT 1, I suppose the clinical response is actually though - something that's been on my wall for the last decade which I've enjoyed everyday that I look at it.
Irony is that when I look at what I've had on my walls over the last 10 years (or so) and enjoyed the most are a picture taken of my Daughter when she was about 3 hanging upside down (no children were harmed during the process) and a picture of the foreshore at Brighton that I bought for ยฃ30 or so on a whim after a quality day out.
The rest is just fluff........ships that pass in the night.

Also took a fair few slating a from people on here so good to see he I'd doing so well and being recognized. If you delve back into some of the old threads could make amusing reading He was a Logan Hicks wannabe with some of his early stuff, but seemed like a good kid

Ummm ok that sounds a bit patronising, or is it just me?

his work now whilst on occasion threatening to find its own flavour tends to feel like its still derived from others, so I'd tend to disagree with those who think it will be something else in 10 years.

It's certainly not cheap now but his prices will go through the roof.

I think the whole 'Bob Dylan' thing will be remembered as a lesser chapter of Richard Prince's career. I don't see why one would anticipate it to go through the roof. I don't think anyone collecting Prince is going to rush out and say, "oh, I need one of the 'Bob Dylan' works."
Could be wrong, but there are many, many different series from Prince that I would go after long before this stuff.

Whilst phage might be a new member here, it's blantantly obvious from his posts and sales threads that he has been interested in/collecting art of the type discussed here (I really find it hard to use the word urban!) for a long long time. I fear that he knows what he is talking about. We should not assume that someone new to this forum is new to the "scene" (god, I cringe at words like that). imo.

I just feel that the phrase he used to describe Martin Whatson was extremely patronising. He has an obsession with my post count which was why I threw it back at him.
I suppose I prefer to keep things like this open for anyone to see and I see no reason in me sending him an angry PM like he's done to me in the past.

Sure, my friend. Post count means nothing, as we all know. I know less than almost everyone on this forum. Just trying to calm things down. Calling him idiotic is not right. I am sure Phage will agree to differ with you. Alls good!

10 years from now I should have bought a....??, by otomi on Aug 10, 2013 1:49:42 GMT 1, It's not going to be anyone mentioned here. If it would be that easy ... Buy what you like and if you have good taste it will probably also appreciate in value as other people will want it too. I'm sure there is some cool subculture out there that I'm not aware of and it will create a whole new set of artists.

This is both inaccurate and as has already been mentioned pretty patronizing. The logan Hicks thing was a bit daft in that Martin did a commercial interior in a LH style. But he as far as I know did not produce work in that style. It was about this time that Martin was doing His pieces, stencils and style have always been in the vein they are now. It's moved and changed a bit but he isn't a Logan Hicks. The period your talking about was the time that Martin was doing Eternal Reflection.
Which to be fair is not bad for a "good kid". Think in 10 years this will still have a place on my wall.

urbanartassociation.com/user/1253/recent
"nothing catty, just simply a comparison.
but what does bug me is the guy was hanging out the whole week I was there and he was talking about how he respects my work, was asking me about technical stuff, and professing his 'respect' for what i did. I considered him a friend, so I spoke freely without any hesitation. To then turn around and then make a near duplicate piece of work that is the polar opposite of what you've been doing for the years before smells funny to me. it's suspect."
One day he will get his own style

So to say and imply that Martin is a. LH wannabe is pretty ill informed really. Likewise you have looked it up quoted the post from LH yet you will have seen in the same thread tons of martins work none of which has any resemblance to Logan's fine work. So not sure what axe you guys are grinding. I do remember this situ and Logan's post which was Kultur remember this situ and Logan's post which was very genuine.
Think the confusion at the time hat caused the problem is this. Note this is my view and understanding not Martins or Logan's for that matter likewise do not know if they have ever discussed it.
This as I understand it. The piece which was a mural in a shop clothes/hairdresser or something. Martin did not sure if he got paid or did as a favor. It wa def in the logan Hicks style etc. however I think he just painted what they wanted and did not regard it as one of his pieces. However it made some site as a new Martin Whatson piece and caused the problem and troubles. His work style of his pieces never changed etc. but it was as I say done as decoration in a shop not on the street or as a Martin Whatson piece.
So he has never been a LH wannabe. Just think he was painting anything he was asked locally and did not regard these as his work/art. Logan jumped off the depend and hence the posts etc. as mentioned it did have an LH style in that it was a street seen of shops at night. But is actual work as Martin Whatson has not changed in general just progressed. Think he had not accepted that when he painted at that time someone who photo and post.
As say that's my view of what happened no axe to grind with LH or MW.

That's the point there are of course individual pieces from Martins early days and Logan's earlier work but they have both gone in different directions and both are great stencilors
think it will always be a piece of Merit as in its format and particularly canvas and especially the aluminum it is pretty stunning. Eg as mentioned mine will stay on the wall amongst originals of lets say more esteemed artists. Or are you measuring in cash terms only?? Even then would probably gain a decent return.

I'm sure your investment is still intact after you've so deftly defended it.
I guess being able to remember when Martin had a body of work of about 5 pieces will colour the initial impression, but that's just the thoughts of an idiotic newbie who is deeded to know nothing because he doesn't hinge his standing in the world on how many posts he's made on here.

10 years from now I should have bought a....??, by johnnyh on Aug 10, 2013 8:32:10 GMT 1,
THat's why I said WAS a Logan Hicks wannabe, not IS ...........think you might want to check there fella I did not quote you as saying IS. Infact the only time I quoted you I said that saying was , was inaccurate. Which you possibly are again here.
Yes but same point he obviously wasn't or he would be. Think he may well have set his sights higher on who he would want to be........
Mate I did not make an investment I just bought a piece which I believe has merit. Not for sale now will it be so it does not matter but sure if it was would do ok.
I have made no mention or comparrison to the number of posts made or how long people have or have not been members as it relevant to your or my opinion.
so cheer up chap

10 years from now I should have bought a....??, by Deleted on Aug 10, 2013 9:09:19 GMT 1, He was a Logan Hicks wannabe with some of his early stuff, but seemed like a good kid Read more: urbanartassociation.com/thread/108267/10-years-bought?page=2&scrollTo=1088963#ixzz2bWxvzZyRThis is both inaccurate and as has already been mentioned pretty patronizing.
Thank you. So I'm not the only one here who thinks that to call someone a 'good kid' and a 'wannabe' is slightly out of order.
