Martin Whatson โข Angel Print, by mikehaspey on Aug 22, 2013 21:00:35 GMT 1, Did you see me putting any on eBay as soon as purchased? No. Plenty have though... While I know the majority who buy in numbers are doing it for a quick quid or two, we are not all like that. Perhaps email and offer one in place of the original amount ordered before being binned off completely.

Martin Whatson โข Angel Print, by Art Fan 2011 on Aug 22, 2013 21:07:01 GMT 1, Many other gallery`s manage to release prints and not oversell, its not rocket science. To hear them say they were "surprised" at the demand is an insult, MW has long been a respected and collected artist, and as time goes by his stuff gets more and more popular!! This is the 3rd MW release this gallery have messed up: 1 - Love heart - Packing was shocking, with so many getting damaged!! 2 - Son of man - OVERSOLD 3 - Angel - OVERSOLD (yet there "surprised"?) Today is a another example of this amateur gallery messing up - Martin, if your still on this forum and are reading posts from all your unhappy fans - take your work to a professional gallery who will at least pack things in the correct manner not oversell, and not be taken by surprise when more than 75 people want a print from one of 2013`s hottest artists!!!! i know its easy to get annoyed i did when i missed out on eternal reflection but ffs this is far to strong man we do our best and go out of our way to please customers and will continue to do so. if so many people cart it and checkout there is always a chance of oversell. its too easy to be pissed off because you missed out and i really do know how that feels but there is little i can do. sorry again i going to have a beer and try to relax been at this screen from 8am. All my comments were fair and factual! And im afraid when your self employed if you customers demand your infront of a screen 24/7 then thats the way it has too be! Its a very competative world, and only the most commited will get somewhere!! Anyway, you go enjoy your beer, im sure its been a hard day updating the website and sending out refund emails! Would be interested to know how many got refunded, quite alot, by the looks of it, and thats just members on here? Oh and forgot to say big well done to Martin for another sell out, much deserved for a very hard working and talented artist!!

Most popular artists sell out and many people dont get what they want.
Is it the fact that people are being refunded, and that you would have preferred a old out screen like POW have? or the fact the edition wasn't big enough?
I personally like the ideas of smaller galleries working with an up and coming artist, both growing together and hopefully having a bit of fun along the way

Martin Whatson โข Angel Print, by linguiny on Aug 22, 2013 21:32:24 GMT 1, I was lucky enough to get an Aluminium version (fingers crossed no refund email yet). All my previous dealings with GP have been very positive I know thats easy for me to say as I bagged one.
We just have to look at the recent Faile versions over selling (until they went to the lottery), it happens its not the first time and wont be the last. Maybe GP could offer the ones that missed out a chance of pre sale on the next release, just a thought as I don't know how many over sold.
Anyway well done to Martin and GP I'm looking forward to recieving my shinny bad boy!

People complain about bigger & open editions as well, can't please all the people all the time - I've never scored on a drop with HMP or Faile etc

Either way, im going to refrain from further comment on this matter as I can feel my next comments would be far less polite than ive been so far!!

And FYI GP, the next MW release WILL BE A SELL OUT, now you know that,it wont be such a shock next time around!!

Your talking like this never happens but it does all the big guns over sell its nothing new it's part of the game some you win but mostly we all lose. GP are probably the only gallery that has been consistent with good affordable releases. Bravo.

Maybe 50 quid profit if you are quick and a risky transaction process ?

agreed urbanhangings I think GP has shown empathy with his customers after the son of man over sell, when I've been refunded by other galleries all I got was an email.

This faux graffiti'd exploration seems like the street art theme of 2013. Wonder what he'll faux tag next and call the cattle to his print farm. Maybe it's time for a new body of work. Liked his pre-faux tagging era. I'm starting to get him and dolk confused..... derp derp derp.

Martin Whatson โข Angel Print, by swamped on Aug 22, 2013 22:11:17 GMT 1, This is not hard to release a print online, say edition size is 100 you make 85 ready to go at drop then when all are bought and everything is good quietly put up what was held back , then you are covered all wAys and customers are not being refunded for an oversale that you have not expected. Prepare and expect the un-expected, cover your a$$.

It minimizes the flippers and makes it a level playing field , neutralizing those that have fancy bots. It would also stop the oversell problems surely? More work for GP, but worth considering to alleviate the gripes?

You still wouldn't have a print, and I don't see how it would stop the refunds, unless it was a similar software to POW, whatever the hell they use? does anyone know? and does anyone know the cost of implementing this software?
On the above suggestion you release 85 prints, and 2000 people want them, they all hit the buy button within 5 seconds of each other. You hold fire then release the other 15 and 1900 people want them, you still have lots of people not getting what they want

Don't think the carting system Eelus used allowed for oversells, but then people just complained about others carting the prints for 15 minutes without buying. Can't ever win.

because it doesn't level any playing field. there are many ways to get around only entering one time. friends, family, co workers and just making 100 different emails/paypals etc. i can tell you i have been collecting for a long time and have never won a lottery for anything. lottos suck!
can't believe all this fuss tho is this your guys first day in the print game? if you got refunded that means you were to slow to buy the print anyways and wouldn't of scored it. sucks to get refunded but thats the game we play win some lose some. onto the next!

Whether its a lottery, a buy it now button that dissapears in a nano second, or oversells. Keep things in perspective. Some get lucky, some dont. Slagging off the gallery just isnt right, imo. They will have tried their best. I like artists being represented by small galleries. Tescos might to an efficient job, but I dont want them selling art I like. Nice things happen to nice people.
Oh dear... Whenever demand outstrips supply, there are always going to be people dissapointed.

Martin Whatson โข Angel Print, by Ottomatik on Aug 22, 2013 23:53:25 GMT 1, People complain about bigger & open editions as well, can't please all the people all the time - I've never scored on a drop with HMP or Faile etc True, but how a gallery handles a problem is the difference between the good and bad, this guy has had his pay day, now has his feet up enjoying a beer! And FYI GP, the next MW release WILL BE A SELL OUT, now you know that,it wont be such a shock next time around!!
Artfan, just remember, GP is NOT a gallery.

I made the comment based on my own personal experience of using just one address, yet having surprisingly good luck. If I win then great, if not i move on. I need to start becoming more scheming methinks. you won a NBG right? if i had won something like that i would probably be advocating for them as well hahaha. And similarly, that's why you are against them! A CYW actually.

Thanks for telling us you were going to drop them then come on here HOURS later and say ohhh those aren't available anymore. Again, wow. Totally agree, I would have tried to buy a regular if I'd have known the blue were going to be sold privately/to friends. Shoddy way to run your business and very disappointing. Please, if you have no intentions of selling prints to the general public, don't entice us with the idea that we will have a chance at getting them.
