Abstract Art, by Daniel Silk on Mar 17, 2012 15:45:19 GMT 1, Don't know what they're about, but I like them! I've been wondering what your Avatar was for a while! What happened to the pots?
Thanks
Yes, I have some of the pottery here and I will try to get some up for sale on the website at some point. But if anyone see's a piece that they would like from the photos already up at www.DanielSilk.com just drop me a PM. Thanks again!

Abstract Art, by Stoko on Nov 25, 2012 11:02:44 GMT 1, Morning all; As some of you know I'm a teacher at a High School, and am always encouraging my pupils to go out and ruin other people's property
Done a lot of stuff with them; stencilling, tagging typo, site specific 3D work like Ronzo's Cruncher etc but am trying to get them to get their heads around abstract art as a concept
Who's the best contemporary Abstract Street/Urban artists do you reckon? If you can justify your choice, in terms of their work/style linking to other artists, cultures or eras
Go!

Abstract Art, by hunter on Nov 25, 2012 11:46:47 GMT 1, Dale Vermin Marshall would be top of my list and now the hard bit to explain why!
I think with Dale it's very important to recognize his personal history and his travels through life. His history as a graffiti artist and his battles with mental health shape and inspire his art. I think that the Room 101 show was a seminal show. 101 works in the same number of days all on the theme of the deconstruction of the Vermin tag. What struck me about the show was the differences in the canvases. The first canvases were daubed thick with paint and frenetic. Later canvases flat and calm. To me they were like a daily diary.
Obviously since that show Dale has travelled, learnt and developed his art. He is now a contemporary artist. He continues to develop and learn and its great to witness his journey. To me each new work shows how far he has come and developed as an artist. The 101 show was raw but a big stepping stone probably in many ways.
Not very good at explaining things but hope that gives a flavour.

Any more for any more?

Abstract Art, by Deleted on Nov 25, 2012 18:06:05 GMT 1, I think a good one to use is James Marshall aka Dalek. www.dalekart.com You can link the influence of American/English 'Pop Art' and increased focus of consumerism to the Japanese take on 'Pop Art' 'Superflat'.
e.g. Lichtenstein's take on the American comic book V Murakami's.
Dalek/James Marshall was working under Takashi Murakami in NYC in 2001... & if you look at his early work and the use of his 'SpaceMonkey', through his own timeline on his website you can clearly see how he moved away from the illustrative 'SpaceMonkey' character based work which typifies much of Murakami's Anime style pieces. Over the years from 2005 onwards you can see the increased abstraction of shape and colour but the essence of the 'SpaceMonkey' is always there in his work.

Abstract Art, by Feral Things on Nov 25, 2012 20:12:52 GMT 1, I've gotta agree with Hunter, I think Dale Marshall has been producing some incredible abstract work over the last few years.
The tag is the foundation of graffiti and a writer's tag is very much an expression of who they are. I think very few artists have successful transferred these principles from the street onto the canvas and I think Dale Marshall has done this better than anyone else. His 'Vermin' tag forms the basis of his paintings and he then distorts and abstracts the letterforms as he explores the various themes in his work.

Abstract Art, by Bram on Nov 25, 2012 22:06:09 GMT 1, there are a few to list Futura, Retna, Mr Jago. Parla to name a few but for me Dale VN Marshall is the one watch. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching his development so far and I think there is a lot more to come from him. I feel his work is real and I believe it, which is always a worry with abstract. Jose's work is a major force and I can't think why Dale's won't progress to Parla's exposure.
A lot of abstract work leaves me cold but when it works it can move me as much, if not more than any other forms. I am still learning about reading abstract but in my experience the best abstract needs no explanation.

Abstract Art, by Phear Loathing on Nov 26, 2012 6:15:50 GMT 1, Hate to sound repatative here, but Dale Marshal gets another mention from me.
After seeing numerous works in person this summer you can quickly see how far he has come in composition and execution from his earlier works. Dale is methodical and each piece paints a true picture. Loved the explanation of the scenes he had painted and hearing the special meaning behind the pieces. He paints from true raw emotion and is expressing himself with every brush. I am convinced that the guy is one of the most passionate painters of our time and even in the last 3-4 months his work has taken yet another leap up.
Not sure there is another artist out there that is evolving and quickly and amazingly as Dale. It's almost scary. He is definitely the artist I have my eye on the most these days. With out a doubt the guy has soul and puts everything he has into his art.

If you go back through Remi's posts you can see the progression to his work today both on the studio and the massive building he did with some others opp Kings Cross.
Remi also has done many collaborations witha lot of his work around London to easily view.

Abstract Art, by Feral Things on Nov 26, 2012 15:04:50 GMT 1, If you can justify your choice, in terms of their work/style linking to other artists, cultures or eras
Sorry, I missed the bit about linking to other artists and movements. In relation to Dale Marshall, I think there's a clear link to abstract expressionism but perhaps less obviously I think there's a link to Arabic art in the sense that for centuries now stylised, and to some extent abstracted, letterforms have been the basis of a lot of Arabic art. Technique-wise I think there's some distinct similarities with Whistler and Turner in terms of the application of the paint.
I would agree with some of the other names mentioned above like Duncan Jago and one more which hasn't been mentioned yet is Mark Lyken.

Abstract Art, by graffuturism on Aug 22, 2013 17:17:49 GMT 1, I know there is a lot of love for representational art in this forum but I thought it would be good to have a thread dedicated to abstract artists as well. I see some posts here and there on this type of art and figured it would be a good place to share some artists with you.
Here is a recent installation from Hense really like where he has been going with this.
