100 Works of Art that will define our age, by Coach on Sept 12, 2013 21:02:46 GMT 1, From the bbc radio 4 Today programme website:
In a new book "100 works of Art that will Define Our Age", art critic Kelly Grovier tries to answer the question of which works of contemporary art will stand the test of time. Mr Grovier and Rachel Campbell-Johnston, an art critic, discuss the likely perspective of contemporary artworks in years to come.

From the Telegraph:
Kelly Grovier, who is also a historian, argues that it is art which will survives us, and the great pieces of today will come to represent our time just as those past masters now represent their era. In his new book The 100 Works of Art That Will Define Our Age he has predicted a global cast including Marina Abramović, Anish Kapoor, Ai Weiwei, Banksy, Louise Bourgeois, Jeff Koons, Gerhard Richter, Sean Scully, and Kara Walker will survive the test of time. Some of the most famous works chosen included are Emin’s My Bed, Hirst’s For the Love of God, and Cornelia Parker’s Breathless. However, his list from the late 20th and early 21st century has been criticised for being too populist, with experts pointing out that great artists such as El Greco or Van Gogh were not recognised in their lifetime. When asked if he would compare the modern artists to Van Gogh or Da Vinci, Mr Grovier told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I think that every age, every generation, gets a chapter in the big book of history and at least a paragraph of that chapter is devoted to works that are created in that age. “What I am interested in, as Philip Larkin put it, is what will survive of us? He said love, I say art and I think we are saying the same thing. The greatest works are acts of love, acts of generosity.” There was no check list for the selection process, he said, but the sensation they caused was a major factor in his decision making. Truly great pieces reflect what it means to be alive in the world and can influence not only the future but the past, Mr Grovier said, as they help “rethink the profundity of works that came before it”. Arguing that art will live on when memories of war or scientific breakthroughs have been forgotten, he added: “This has been true in the past, we can more quickly recall the contours of Picasso’s Guernica than most of us can recite a single aspect of the events the provoked that response. “Art does tend to be remembered even when the squabbles fade, it has that ability to endure.” However, Rachel Campbell-Johnston, author and art critic, pointed out that many of the celebrated artists of their era, such as Victorian John Linnell, have been all but forgotten after their death, whilst others have found posthumous fame, including Henry Darger and Sir Alfred Munnings. She told him: “It is the future tense that troubles me. They define our age now these works, but I think that it could also be called 100 of the world’s most popular artworks.” Adding: “Most of these artists will end up as footnotes at best in the history of art.”

100 Works of Art that will define our age, by Feral Things on Sept 12, 2013 21:27:14 GMT 1, Thanks for the heads up on this, Coach.
The list of artists are here but (I guess for commercial reasons) they don't seem to have said (apart from if you buy the book) which works they're specifically referring to. Banksy and Polly Morgan are on the list and you'll be pleased to hear that Sarah Lucas is too. It could be fun to try and second-guess which works they picked though...

100 Works of Art that will define our age, by randomname on Sept 12, 2013 21:41:00 GMT 1, I'm guessing a lot of the art is a little too obscure to have "defined our age." But it's probably an interesting list.

100 Works of Art that will define our age, by Dungle on Sept 13, 2013 6:17:28 GMT 1, A Ridiculously subjective list that is no one will ever agree on.
Will still be an interesting read, but as the lady says it does seem to be a bit 'popular culture'.
