Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Wearology on Oct 28, 2013 18:20:18 GMT 1, 20 million reasons why Banksy wouldn't risk spending some time in a NY jail for spray painting a wall at 4:30 in the morning !!!!!
The famed graffiti artist and recent documentary filmmaker known only as Banksy has a net worth of $20 million. And how has Banksy been able to accumulate such a net worth? Banksy began his career in the world of graffiti around the year 1990. It was during this early phase of his career that he first began using the technique of stenciling rather than using only freehand to complete his pieces. This technique allowed him to get in and out of tight places really fast, which is an important part of a graffiti artist. 12 years after first hitting the scene, in 2002, Banksy had his first gallery exhibition in Los Angeles at the 33 1/3 Gallery. From there, Banksy steadily became a fixture of the legitimate art scene, with his pieces going for big prices at auction. One buyer in particular was notable – pop star Christina Aguilera bought a piece of Banksy's for £25,000. Despite his increased fame, Banksy continued (and continues) to keep his true identity a secret, even amidst the release of his directorial debut, a "documentary" of questionable authenticity entitled Exit Through the Gift Shop, which purports to explore a rivalry between Banksy and an up-and-coming street artist known as Mr. Brainwash.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by kbfrombk on Oct 28, 2013 18:20:31 GMT 1, Incredible that an opEd by a GRAFFITI ARTIST could conceivably be front-page newsworthy ANYWHERE!!
That's the fuck!n' art right there folks.
-----~~
I've just gotten back from the Robot piece. Spoke to the befuddled landlord who rightfully wasn't sure what to do or say, and who was being barraged by others approaching him with "not a bad morning, wake up with a wall worth half a million bucks"... and "you better call and hire a security guard before that thing goes from being worth 200-300 grand to nothing".
Sad stuff.
I whispered to the owner that my dad's hardware store a mile or so away carries plexi, if he wanted it; he declined. I said well have a nice day sir, took 2 photos, and calmly left.
Piece is cool... crowd, not so much.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by johnnyh on Oct 28, 2013 18:43:12 GMT 1, Based on C Aguillera. On the basis that he had no costs, spent no money at all over the years that's 1600 canvas 50k a pop it's 800 etc
Now sure he had made a fair few and hope for him it's that much but does tend to imply he is better at investing than painting.
Alternatively again with no costs that's 66,600 prints at $600 a pop pure profit.
On the basis that he has spent 50% of what he earned the figures are quite massive

At least make up something new if your gonna talk crap ha Don't think you actually know what you're talking about, Invaded420. It has been well documented that Banksy does not act alone in these instances. Sure, he may be involved, but it is not all him. That is for certain.
(And I would place an emphasis on 'may' in that sentence. Not entirely convinced he has his hand in every one of the stencil artworks. Large or small. In fact, many of the early rat stencils in and around London were completed by Eine, not Banksy. Remember, the medium is the message. Not necessarily the act.)

If that piece is a stencil that proves me point He was a graff artist and is now a stencil boy
Any graff artist worth his sort would do this on hand styles - not a stencil
Or it could be that a minion did it as his minions are too not graff artists
Mmmmmmm

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by antigrav on Oct 28, 2013 19:26:20 GMT 1, I like the robot piece. But the UPC code he's putting up doesn't make much sense to me.
Shouldn't it be some binary code? Some 0's and 1's?
OMAR in Binary: 01001111 01001101 01000001 01010010

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by .dappy on Oct 28, 2013 19:27:10 GMT 1, talking of architecture .... one of the most iconic symbols and buildings in London was condemned by a number of people and letters written to the Times when it was first put forward and built.
Over 50 designs were submitted for a building built in Victorian times and was a 'mock' medieval structure. It took eight years to build with 5 major contractors building it.
Less than 20 years after it was officially opened the high level walkways that spanned the two towers were closed because of lack of use.
Comments, even years after it was built include:
"It represents the vice of tawdriness and pretentiousness, and of falsification of the actual facts of the structure", wrote H. H. Statham, Frank Brangwyn stated that "A more absurd structure than the Tower Bridge was never thrown across a strategic river".
It is of course:

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by graffuturism on Oct 28, 2013 19:27:11 GMT 1, I always thought the New York accent piece was a stencil but now looking closer I dont know. If he actually did not use a stencil he did almost a perfect job using a caligraphy tip on a spray can. The reason why it looks like a stencil is because these caps dont spray this perfect look at all the top parts of the tag, yet the bottom portions fade away and are not clean what you would expect from a normal tag. I would need to see a high res photo to really tell.
