Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by behaviorist on Oct 5, 2013 19:29:11 GMT 1, he does say bambi. each commentary's intentionally mispronounced his name. the narrator's character is someone who knows little about the artist and is much to his chagrin reading missives describing the various works in highly esoteric and highfalutin ways, all the while dismissive of it all. it's perfect.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Evenest Honour on Oct 5, 2013 19:55:03 GMT 1, I am loving this exhibition brilliant stuff , everyday I look forward to seeing something new. And I am only viewing it via the internet, would love to be there. I assume the audio is every other day ?, Seems to be the pattern. I do wonder if anything from the van will go walkies or get hit. Oh and wearalogy you should have had the sign and passed it round the forum, ha ha honestly though we'll done for leaving it. I want to see a statue Pop up now, fingers crossed.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Evenest Honour on Oct 5, 2013 20:15:58 GMT 1, Amogby , surely if banksy was to create just one piece then this thinking would be relevant but the fact that the art here is the whole October media , taggers , public , show harangue art. Just like , the Vic tunnels and exit through gift shop. Of course I would love to see some big detailed pieces.

Yes Adek is - he's one of the most up names I see here.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by dotdot on Oct 5, 2013 20:36:48 GMT 1, for the re-sale value of this, stealing a van must be a huge temptation. I wonder if there are any people looking out for it? There is no resale value, countless Bankrobber, Vermin, Kessler, Lyon & Turnbull auctions have proved this. Still, it's gonna look great in my back yard - Provided Banksy doesn't find the tracker I stuck under the wheel-arch earlier.
not the one with the flashing red light and .. some kind of countdown ?
...oh no.. yir doomed

That's why I said I look forward to seeing what else he might be coming up with.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by nrgball on Oct 5, 2013 20:50:17 GMT 1, I wouldnt consider Melrose and Fairfax a legitimate source at all for anything graffiti related, I am sure they got some knowlwedge but their strength seems to be more street art. If animalnewyork said it or 12ozprophet saying it was not legit it would carry more weight. Like I said not to derail the thread just wanted to give some perspective. As far as Bomb the metro I never had heard that used with BTM but they have many meanings I am sure it could be one, but BTM the BTM that I am referencing is not from 1988 or the old NY days its is a more recent crew that have multiple kings putting in work all over NY to SF. Any writer from NY knows BTM and walking around as a non-writer I am sure you would see them farely alot. As far as writers, NY has a long history and NY is one of the most agressive cities to paint in regardless if you are a street artist or another tagger. Whether it was banksy or Twist each has to earn the respect or pay respects to the writers during their stay, and even then you will still get other writers not in the know possibly hacking out of towners. I see this is pretty normal most are treated the same. Even way Back when Twist first arrived in NY back in the nineties he had to earn his right to run without being dissed. A name or how great the art is doesnt translate all the time to the streets. There is also the fact that it probably gets annoying hearing about Banksy over and Over so why not get some fame I guess. They know he wont stick around for the months and years it takes to really make an impact in the NY streets so maybe it could be like why should you run when we dont get the chance to run. This is hypothetical of course but I am sure pretty close to some of the views. I have talked to many writers and artists out there recently and we have not had a conversation about it yet which means it may not be that big of deal to everyone. I like that he is taking the work to the streets, and I am sure he knows the history of the city he is painting in and I am also pretty positive if he was in town or is, he would have been hanging with some writers as well as artists. Banksy seems to be one of the guys that actually knows who BTM is and probably is honored that an established crew dissed him not some iphone photographers doodling on it. Its maybe more street cred. haha.
Great post!! I love the inside scoop, clear thinking and offering of knowledge. Cheers

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Dungle on Oct 5, 2013 21:07:07 GMT 1, Is this the first exhibition that is being run by social media? No. It's really no different to the good old days (early-mid 2000s) when Banksy was very prolific on the streets of London and elsewhere. New pieces would appear on his website almost daily, just as they are this month in NYC. Hipstagram is merely being used as a tool for the public to spread the word further, which is exactly what everyone else uses it for so there's nothing new there. What he's really done here is gone full circle back to what he's good at, how he started out, and about time too.
Sorry but its nothing like that because when Banksy first started he only had his website, there was no instagram, twitter etc.
That's my whole point. This is the first time social media has been used to control and run an exhibition.

That's not the truck. Totally different graff. Gothamist got it wrong too. BTW, the dude who posted the bottom two pics (which Gothamist linked to) to his IG is the same dude who doodled "My first tag was a Bansy" on the dog pissing on the hydrant piece at 6th Ave and 24th. Yes, Bansy. Not a typo.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Deleted on Oct 5, 2013 21:13:03 GMT 1, More than 10 years on the man is still producing inventive and challenging work, distinct from anyone else. In other forms of the creative industries, there aren't many who have consistently surprised and moved forward. Very little of what he has done is predictable; and yet he remains interesting both to those of us who saw him early on and those to whom this is their first exposure.
I've not liked everything he's done, but I take my hat off to him.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Robert Stevens on Oct 5, 2013 21:36:49 GMT 1, I snapped this last night about an hour after Playground Mob on Delancey got bombed by the dude on the Citibike who may or may not have been from BTM crew. Looked up from my iPhone and this kid was there. No time to turn on flash and its a bad frame. Kid threw the can on the sidewalk, got on his bike, and took off around the corner. It was a lysol can of all things. Beyond weird.

There's never been any public interaction on his website Wizzle Kicks me old fruit. Same now as it was then and always will be. As I said, 'Hipstagram is merely being used as a tool for the public to spread the word further, which is exactly what everyone else uses it for so there's nothing new there'. The public interaction that's going on now is exactly that - public interaction - there is no interaction between Banksy and the public bar the publishing of a photograph, just as he does maybe I'm just a bit blankered by the whole thing but it seems to me that B is using the media outlets more than previous projects and it is actually part of the whole thing . Whereas I am sure there was the same outlet s active when Bristol show or exit was released but he chose not to use them as part of the experience ,? ?maybe I'm wrong. If can't yemember how I got ny ticket for the tunnels now or Bristol but sure there was no real interaction via Twitter etc. On here tree was always discussions photos etc, usually posted first by fragile, but none of this now it's all via media. That's the difference I see
