New Faile book covers coming Weds, by Happy Shopper on Oct 30, 2013 18:39:17 GMT 1, So do Faile actually paint or is it all silkscreen and then colored in? I only ask as I don't think i have ever seen a free-hand painted piece - just stamps, stencils, silkscreens, collage and paste-ups around 50's themed imagery This is their style... I don't know how many of the images are directly taken from old illustrations and how many just look like they are... but it seems to work for them!
They tried a hand painted show a while ago, but it was a bit of a shock and don't think the pieces sold well (and they cancelled the print release from that show too)

Sucks when you cant break even years later most of time... Been noticing this with price trends... is this because they flood us with options? seems like they continuously sh!t new things out. Their biggest problem seems to me that they make their cheapest prints too good! There's hardly any difference in quality... just edition size... and the price jump is massive.
For example "My Confessions" is probably my favourite print, even though it's a higher edition than most. And the VNA cover they did is almost identical to the Book Covers!!
In terms of just wanting to own a nice piece from them, if you're not worried about exclusivity, it's all good!

I only ask as I don't think i have ever seen a free-hand painted piece - just stamps, stencils, silkscreens, collage and paste-ups around 50's themed imagery I would bet my left nut that the Patrick's did not even come close to touching any of these. They are just silkscreens that their assistants have done for them after given the artwork. They might have signed the COA... but that is not actually touching the piece.
If you follow them, they did not even paint anything on their latest mural in Canada... only assistants.
Their last show at LAZ was all or almost all hand painted pieces and the majority of people hated it... I quite liked a few of them.

I'd hope they did work on these themselves.

Don't buy art as an investment. Yes, of course, money can be made buying art, getting lucky and then selling it for more. More often than not, you just end up with art. So buy what you like, you'll be happier with it on your walls than with a piece that you know the current market value of.

Things will eventually catch up with Faile... I love their work and have many pieces... but over and over the same thing. Even the new pieces have been done so many times already it seems..

New Faile book covers coming Weds, by yoyosh on Oct 30, 2013 20:03:33 GMT 1, Some of these are really beautiful and I think the Patricks are really creative....that being said I just can't justify 1250 on these. They've done a great job making their prints available for a reasonable price, and even the secondary market has lots of authentic Faile images for significantly less than $1000. That being said, if you must own an original there are some doozies here. I'm happy with my prints and VNA screen printed cover for now.

Off course people can buy art as an investment, whether it is a good investment only time will tell. Better off sticking it in your bank, unless you really like the work you buy.

Also, it takes a lot of help to do those outdoor murals...assistants, colossal media, whatever...i still like them
Fragments show was awesome.. I wish they had done the prints...those paintings were awesome
