New Faile book covers coming Weds, by swamped on Oct 30, 2013 22:34:24 GMT 1, I do buy what i like and not just as an investment but with all these prints you have to change up the walls from time to time and my Faile prints have never brought more than i paid usually a few hundred less in the end. As another person said my Confessions is a perfect example maybe 800 not the 1100 it cost yeRs ago, Savage sMe thing so they are down and stored away, maybe make the walls again but i doubt it..probably trade them down the line. I know im not alone haveing several Faile prints in the collection you cant let go of unless you are willing to take the loss, and most are way to cool to let go of for less than we paid.. Imo. Cheers!

6 of one, half-dozen of the other I suppose. Circle of Life and all that, innit ;-)

New Faile book covers coming Weds, by Hairbland on Oct 30, 2013 22:49:36 GMT 1, Don't buy art as an investment. Yes, of course, money can be made buying art, getting lucky and then selling it for more. More often than not, you just end up with art. So buy what you like, you'll be happier with it on your walls than with a piece that you know the current market value of. Agreed. Unless that's what you do. Like being a stockbroker.
I have the large Faile Ballet print - cost more to frame than the print - all in over $1200 but it's big and beautiful. I saw both ballets, 1 with my 8 year old son, other with my gf. So it means something AND looks great.

New Faile book covers coming Weds, by pcant on Oct 30, 2013 23:11:26 GMT 1, (pardon me while I drag my soapbox in here...) Don't buy art as an investment. Yes, of course, money can be made buying art, getting lucky and then selling it for more. More often than not, you just end up with art. So buy what you like, you'll be happier with it on your walls than with a piece that you know the current market value of. Off course people can buy art as an investment, whether it is a good investment only time will tell. Better off sticking it in your bank, unless you really like the work you buy. I realize this debate will go on forever, but my point is that, unlike Apple stock or platinum, art is, well, art, and the point of buying it should be for the enjoyment, not for the investment. Of course people will speculate on the market, and some will get rich and some will not, but buying art because you want to hang it in your wall (instead of with an eye on the resale market) can never end up badly.

New Faile book covers coming Weds, by swamped on Oct 31, 2013 0:25:04 GMT 1, Boy i really started somethi g with that first comment, sorry all. I was just saying espiy with a major artist like Faile it is very dissapointing to me when i do from time to time let one go if needed just to generally take a good size loss. Personally i think they should comand more for there prints then at point of cost, alwYs difficult to get and pricey so you would i guess mistakenly assume they would be worth more or at least my original cost, sad to say its just not the case with the prints i have let go..even when you love them sometimes to many in the collection forces your hand.

New Faile book covers coming Weds, by vinzc on Oct 31, 2013 0:37:28 GMT 1, No I think it was a good conversation to bring up. Huh, I don't really see them going for less than cost regularly. Usually, it seems to me that they're at a decent premium, save a couple print editions? Perhaps you UKers have seen it more drastically with the change in exchange rate over the last couple of years and import/duty fees? But that's only speculation on my part. I could be wrong, I don't know. Like many other artists, Failes prices certainly seem to bounce around a fair bit.

New Faile book covers coming Weds, by stvro22 on Oct 31, 2013 3:29:03 GMT 1, So do Faile actually paint or is it all silkscreen and then colored in? I only ask as I don't think i have ever seen a free-hand painted piece - just stamps, stencils, silkscreens, collage and paste-ups around 50's themed imagery
They tried painting once. It didn't go so well.
