Well, not sure... as said above if you have a GreaseMonkey script on your browser that refresh page every 30 s and detect Paypal button in DOM then it can be clicked automatically. And as posted before, if there is really an Paypal API that allow you to login and proceed with payment with Curl and IPN, then it's very easy process for tech-savy guy. Agree !
The Paypal API doesn't work that way. it's used by the seller to integrate into their website. Any automated process would still have to go through the regular paypal checkout pages.

I have no idea about Paypal API... but automatically clicking a button to add product in basket is a very easy process... followed by a manual checkout !
