double edged sword for me. My work enables me to buy the art. My work more often than not gets in the way of queuing up for print releases.commissions are my future

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by sakyamuni on Nov 22, 2013 16:40:34 GMT 1, Just usual business imo. I live in a place far from art galleries and opening nights so i just don't really care about this kind of releases. Sometimes it is frustrating but i am getting used to it. Apart from lotteries and open-edition, i don't see any other fair system to satisfy everyone. From my personal experience, there is so much great art easily available that i don't really care about what i have missed, it is already so difficult to pay for what is available...

Maybe, just maybe, those who were in the queue, but were unable to buy, wanted the print for their wall? That seems more realistic than the people walking away with 4-6 sets wanting one for each room of the house, no?

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Coach on Nov 22, 2013 16:44:59 GMT 1, Actually i've just put 2 and 2 together and I actually know Ben, and he's a really nice genuine lad who prior to working at Laz has helped me out a number of times. He's one of the most passionate people i've met in this scene and defo not the rich-kid-with-attitude type or anything like that, can't believe he intentionally meant to upset anyone, the decision to restrict the number of prints won't have been his. I'm sure it was a stressful day. Blame staying up all night to watch a pathetic batting collapse on my morning crankiness! ^^ TruDat ^^ Ben has always been very passionate and helpful when I've chatted with him. He's also got a properly b**chin' "Benzo" from BΓ€ST (if memory serves) that makes me like him slightly less, but, overall a nice lad
Agreed. Ben is a very good bloke.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by motor on Nov 22, 2013 16:52:53 GMT 1, I don't realy care and agree hard to plase everyone but one thing the gallery could have done was to limit the purchase for one print per person. They didn't, shame but fair enough. Otherwise business as usual - hype, hype, hype, flip, sell out. Those involved are more than happy. Those who missed out not so...

Agreed with business as usual...and Ben may be a nice guy and all that but he was in over his head yesterday. So was Steve for that matter. And I don't begrudge anyone whether they want this on their wall or flip or whatever, but when you say you have 50 available, say you're gonna not sell to flippers (ridiculous but hey what they said) then watch a guy walk out with seven sets from your bloody gallery (he didn't even wait to leave, had them all together sat in the corner of the gallery like a proper modern day Fagan) while 10 people missed out (whether they wanted to flip or not is besides the point)...that smacks of a type of systematic arrogance that comes back to bite you.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by letiss on Nov 22, 2013 17:09:04 GMT 1, I've posted on here before about Laz / The Outsiders and their dubious customer service, so won't re type all that. Just feel this business is summed up by their owner's twitter account, which is now again informative with links to cutting edge art but is also frequently insulting and arrogant. No wonder his staff seem to follow those traits.

I am pretty sure even the people buying on ebay are forum members or lurkers on these 2 sites.
Oddly enough, I was looking for info on wikipedia and Faith47 has a page there but no information regarding ZOMG DALeast.

That's just a stupid comment. You've been on dal's work before. No need to be bitter or take a jab at the artist now.

Interesting point. Interesting to also see another forum fave Jeremy Geddes have a ''secondary price re-adjustment'. Think that the EB forum and here have played a big part in both these artists rises.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Dice on Nov 22, 2013 19:24:30 GMT 1, I think the point needs to be made though that noone really has the right to judge the so-called flippers. The queue was open to everyone in the entire world and everyone made a choice whether to go or not. Personally, it was my only chance of buying a Dal print so I went up the night before and crashed in a youth hostel to guarantee my place.
Not sure where people draw the line with flippers anyway, if someone frames it and sells it next year for a profit, or puts in on ebay immediately for a profit, or stores it in a portfolio and trades up in 2 years isn't it all the same really....?

Agree, lines are pretty blurred. There were some blatant chaps there flipping but they queued in the cold at silly o'clock like the rest of us.
Heard people were paying kids to stand in the queue for them tho. That probably crosses the line.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Dice on Nov 22, 2013 19:57:33 GMT 1, The guy that walked out with 7 was the young guy with a hat and tattoos on his neck. He was literally taking invoices and prints off of his 10-12 year old brothers/mates and adding them to his stack. They didn't even look in the room with the sketches or downstairs. They were first in line to be fair but they could have been a bit more discreet (e.g. not smirking and rubbing their hands in the corner as their pile grew) considering those that missed out were in there too. As said before - the sketches were great but the mood in that place for the first hour was hideous and I was glad Dal wasn't there to see it. To be honest, I don't think they expected the numbers. It was the Newcastle gallery's first queue.
Ah the young'uns. Yep different group. Agree that blatant smirking etc is really not on if that's what happened. Also can't help feeling the whole experience would have been a lot more enjoyable in London re atmosphere etc, not to mention the cost and hassle of getting to Newcastle!

We all want one on our walls, but sadly i did see 2 groups ready to flip, The first early ebay listing was from manchesterart and guess what? the suspected flipper group had mancunian accents.
i say call jessica Fletcher to solve the crime

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Deleted on Nov 22, 2013 20:28:45 GMT 1, Firstly I would say that I created this thread on the basis that I thought it would be a laugh and that the dialogue would make it pretty f**king obvious that I was taking the piss.
I have to take my hat off to Brian tho' as he was like lightening in his response via PM. In fact he was that quick that I think his vocation in life is maybe lost and he should be at the forefront of MI6 / FBI monitoring or something, really impressive and almost like he was watching me type, in which case he can watch me do other stuff too which is immoral but not illegal.
Otto, you're right, I seldom get the kind of attention from Mrs Lynn that I would like. Fortunately though there is an active dogging community which meets locally - www.worldwidewives.com/dogging/essex.jsp
Used to travel to Newcastle on business as Northern Rock were once one of my clients. Had some excellent nights out on the lash and can testify that the young ladies of Newcastle know how to have a great time and seemingly don't need to factor sleep in to their working week!
Firstly I would say that I created this thread on the basis that I thought it would be a laugh and that the dialogue would make it pretty f**king obvious that I was taking the piss. Fortunately though there is an active dogging community which meets locally - www.worldwidewives.com/dogging/essex.jspUsed to travel to Newcastle on business as Northern Rock were once one of my clients.
