DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Steph Rat Catcher on Nov 22, 2013 23:05:05 GMT 1, Just about to walk into a gig but will post pics later. The dude with neck tattoos was working for our 7 set friend. He had no idea what he was buying Eschiff has no idea what he is talking about and needs to get his facts straight before he starts throwing accusations around. I went to the show with 4 people. 3 of them were from the forum, all buying prints for themselves. "The dude with the neck tattoos" queued as a favour for a long standing member of this forum whose wife has just had a baby so couldn't come himself. When I got my print I sat in a corner by the window and other members came over and dropped their prints while they went to the toilet, got a beer, had a cigarette. I really don't appreciate seeing an unasked for, unauthorised photograph plastered over a social networking site accusing me of being some kind of ringleader. Yes, there was a group of people there, but why shouldn't I talk to people around me? I am happy to talk to anyone, as you would have known if you had had the guts or bothered to speak to me when you saw me on the train home.... and by the way it's Mr Asshat to you.

Haha. Oh really. Listen mr asshat I really don't care about flipping. I'm pissed because of the hypocrisy of the gallery. It's the game and you've got a good racket going more power to you. But just be honest.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Deleted on Nov 22, 2013 23:19:40 GMT 1, I don't blame them. If I lived near the gallery, me and 20 of my closest homeless friends would have been in the queue waiting to cash in.
I don't blame them either.....its Laz's fault as he allows this dynamic to present itself and obviously doesn't give a flying fuck.

That photo has painful memories of the SAN Dal London release.

They agree that the gallery will put on a show and agree that (say) 30% of the net revenue will be returned to them? I was under the impression that this was the general modus operandi and why lots of artist release art direct or via different mediums?

Maybe! I can only say what I saw. One guy with 6 hired kids from Manchester who was on a train to London with 6 sets of prints. Just be honest syndicate group.
The people around me in the queue were awesome btw and I had a great time. Just trying to be honest for those reading the thread. I got my set. I'm happy.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by sohohoho on Nov 22, 2013 23:55:50 GMT 1, Mad day yesterday! Finished work at 3:30am on Wednesday night and set off in the car from Liverpool at 5am. Three hours later we arrive expecting to grab a couple of hours sleep before queueing, only to find 20 people already in the queue, some of whom had apparently been there since 2am! A couple of close collector friends made the trip up from London the night before and were staying in a hotel just round the corner. I knew they weren't planning to start queueing till around 10am so I tried phoning to let them know about the queue but no answer. Assuming they had been out on the lash, I persisted and called a further 10+ times but still no answer! In the mean time, the queue was growing so I decided to go round to the hotel and get the receptionist to call the room. Guess what? No phone in the room I then asked for their room number expecting a no due to data protection/security but lucky for them it was Travelodge and all red tape went out the window I headed up to room 88 (that explains where the luck came from!) and firmly knock on the door. 30 seconds later, a zombie opens the door and I am knocked clean on my arse by the smell. The pair of them were still pissed and surrounded by a feast of McDonalds waste. After convincing them I wasn't winding them up about the queue, I've never seen anyone check-out so fast! Without being showered I might add Anyway, they just about made, what turned out to be, the cut. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Absolutely deplorable on so many levels. Like someone said earlier, it wasn't actually 10 prints that got held back, it was 20! I didn't like reading what has been said about Ben though. He obviously said some things he shouldn't have but as a young lad, he was nervous, probably felt intimidated and imo should never have been put in that position. I lied to him by saying my brother was my cousin when he suggested we might not get a set each due to having the same surname but there was no way I was going to let one of us go home empty handed after the effort we made. I apologise for that Ben but we do live separately and we both own the first two prints so I hope you understand. Anyway, try to keep your head up, take the negativity on the chin and learn from the experience. I didn't take many photos as I had already seen the preview but I'll leave you with a grainy photo of the ROA-like installation which was downstairs. Cheers.

Hahaha. Ok man. Whatever helps you sleep at night. Don't remember ever talking to anyone except the 10 folks around me in the queue. Listen, again, good on you (or whoever that person was) for organising the logistics of getting 6 sets of prints. I don't care who you are or how you make money, and am if anything impressed by the sophistication of the operation.
I may be COMPLETELY off base and am not accusing any forum member of anything nefarious. What I can say, with 100% accuracy is
- there was a gentleman in the queue that had 6 people with him
- they all paid in cash
- they all gave their print to said gentlemen
- said gentleman was on the train to London with 6 sets of prints
That's it. That's the truth. Where those prints went I have no idea. And again I could care less about mr asshat and his followers. I think it's more important for those who are lurkers and casual observers to know how incompetent (wrong adverb..maybe it's better to say how uncaring) galleries are with selling prints to flippers. I guess everyone knows but thought it important to point out for some reason. Maybe I'm just drunk.

You even came over and spoke to us we are all late 30's early 40's from london travelling Β to London and not young mancunians travevelling to London??? you need to get your accents sorted out! What makes me sick is you came over all friendly chatted and really you were trying to stab us in the back for what ? Lies ! What are you getting out of this??? Hahaha. What I can say, with 100% accuracy is - there was a gentleman in the queue that had 6 people with him - they all paid in cash - they all gave their print to said gentlemen - said gentleman was on the train to London with 6 sets of prints That's it.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by kbfrombk on Nov 23, 2013 0:34:20 GMT 1, Mad day yesterday! Cheers. this is the type of sh|t i love to hear! great job and thanks for the rundown- you did a swell job

Agreed! I'll shoot a video somewhere soon with tons of voices and post just for you. Can't promise the scenery to be a fraction of the magnificence that dal gives us, but I'll sure try.
By the way , that bat installment rules!! More pics of that, please.

Yeah very well may mate! Again I saw a guy on the train to London with 6 sets (see picture). I saw him with a bunch of guys he clearly hired. That's it! Good on him. Just want laz to be called out for tacitly encouraging this!!!

I don't really know who's who and not going to start pointing fingers or making accusations but some of the goings on looked a bit dodgy. I can see why Eschiff has come to the conclusions he has.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by bmerel on Nov 23, 2013 2:17:20 GMT 1, Mandingo...did you score a set of prints? Keeping em?
...nothing I hate more than someone defending themself knowing full well that the reason they went to the gallery in the first place is NOT to keep the prints. Honesty is a virtue that is severely lost behind the confines of a computer. If you went to flip it, good. Stay quiet and do your business...but don't come along with a defensive attitude crying "spy games" and s**t like that. Honesty is king. And I'll take a shot in the dark in saying that I'm CERTAIN that none of your "crew" were there to do anything different than you had planned. I base this assumption off your obvious lack of Dal art knowledge you spat via PMs. "Even the guy who handed them to me said they're worth Β£1000 each". Good, get your money but don't point fingers when your finger is obviously broken.

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by dazarino on Nov 23, 2013 10:09:36 GMT 1, we saw 2 sets of flippers on the night, not being horrible but the lads do have to fund their crack habit somehow lol
I have no problem actually, when someone hires a person to queue for them, just means they really want the piece of art and prepared to pay over the odds, but when people bring 5-6 kids along to flip, well thats not fair. Its the galleries fault, ben knew what was happening but was to scared to act on it and thats not entirely his fault as he should have not been exposed like that in the first place.
Outsiders messed this one up Royally, Im glad to meet some members though and chuffed one of the lads from london got the A/P. It got to a point where I had to stay for the lottery as didn't believe they would do that honestly I would like to see how you guys frame the black one as I'm not sure about what to do with mine

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Deleted on Nov 23, 2013 10:48:33 GMT 1, No one should have to queue all night in this freezing cold for a print - period !! Just stick them on line and be done with it. What good has come out of it? I've trawled through this thread to try and get people's opinion on the show but 90% is about the tales of woe. It's ruined the whole aura of potentially an amazing show. And it happens time and time again.
Exactly what I was going to say. What happened regarding the prints and queuing etc.. is of no surprise,it happens, move on. Does anyone who went have any thoughts about the actual art on display or are you all still finger pointing, name calling mud slinging?
