DAL's canvasses usually have some nice staining on the sides of the canvas... at least mine does and most of the ones I have seen do... so I would show them. Smartest thing would be to just find a good local respected framer to go over options when you have the piece. Right now you might not even know how thick the canvas stretcher bars are

I understand about young kids but I would just try to hang it high. If not, floating it in plexi is the way to go.
