OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Poly Mindset on Feb 12, 2015 3:42:47 GMT 1, I know there are all kinds of haters out there, but forgetting about all the Banksy hype and GP bulls**t I gotta say I still love this print and it still hangs prominently on my wall. I love it's implications with regards to cautionary tales of the traps that can come with affection, and questioning if entering into any type of relationship with another party is a very good idea at all. Happy Valentines Day to all you lovers and all you haters can kiss my ass.

Is it ok that I am curious, please let me know. Or better yet, if you don't care, don't read, don't post and just focus on things you do care about. Dolt

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Deleted on Mar 16, 2015 16:36:16 GMT 1, I like Greek Mythology.
Recently, I noticed a re-occurring theme of Greek mythology in the work of certain artists.
Obviously, the mystery artist who used the pseudonym OUTIS was making a direct connection. In Homer's "The Odyssey," Odysseus used the name (which means nobody) in response to the Cyclops.
Dot Dot Dot or "ellipsis" or ... has roots in ancient Greece mythology as well. Namely in Homer's "Illiad."
Banksy also has referenced Greek mythology in recent works:
Niobe:
Her children were killed and she was turned to rock by angry Greek gods, as punishment for pride/hubris.
The "crazy horses" piece from B.O.T.I:
Always reminded me of this:
It depicts the myth of Phaethon.
And finally, this (newer?) familiar work from Banksy features the wings of Icarus.
We all know Icarus from the classic Nintendo game, right?
...
Cleon Peterson's work also comes to mind. Are there other references to Greek Mythology that people are aware of?

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Feral Things on Mar 16, 2015 22:44:01 GMT 1, Conor Harrington's 'Death in the Afternoon' is a direct reference to Theseus slaying the Minotaur. There's lots of other references in his work to Greek and Roman mythology and history like the bust of Julius Caesar in the bottom left corner of 'Watch Your Palace Fall':
