OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Happy Shopper on Feb 12, 2014 16:57:24 GMT 1, Almost all talk about the "artist" and barely any about the image. Kind of backwards, eh? Whatever this happens to be, it solidifies what a majority is most concerned with. Not in this case... the identity of the artist was made a big deal of by the gallery... so that's the discussion.
Funny really, as how many street artists do we know the real identity of?... or care?

Because they used the word MYSTERIOUS?

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Dexter Bulldog on Feb 12, 2014 17:02:56 GMT 1, still very surprised this guy just sold 150 posters in less than an hour.. chalk it up to people still saying "if i was only walking on central park south that october day i surely would have bought all those canvases at that booth, i better buy this print just in case, and that t shirt, and that sign, etc"

I'm referring to the overwhelming amount of talk towards WHO the artist is as opposed to WHAT the image is. I'll venture 90% towards WHO.

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by maddoghoek100 on Feb 12, 2014 17:11:01 GMT 1, I don't want to talk about the artist and i dont want to talk about the image. All of that is a red herring for the real issue. I want to talk about the gallery that reped the artist, promoted the print, and profited from the sale.
- The artist was deceptive, and had intent to create the appearance of being banksy - The gallery went along with it, and whether they want to admit it or not crafted their messaging carefully to re-enforce the effect - The piece was overpriced or GP charges WAY to much for printing, someone profited handsomely by taking advantage of others
Im saddened that in all this nonsense a good artist has been overshadowed. Bummer for Pez. I like Pez, i likely wont buy a Pez piece from GP. I hope Pez finds a different printer for his next release and the sales of his originals. Pez, if you are reading this, stick to dealing with the Under the Bridge guys. Great folks doing right by their customers. They would never be associated with this kind of garbage marketing.

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by maddoghoek100 on Feb 12, 2014 17:49:05 GMT 1, i dont know why anyone would be surprised that this sold on ebay. If the person is smart enough to set up the facebook page to begin with and patient enough to post only official images for as long as they did. Why on earth would anyone think they did not post the listing and buy it to start creating a fake sales history.
It is one thing to grab 15k from a single release, but with a fake sales history on ebay at 500 a pop, the next outis release could net 20k. I imagine there are 2 or 3 more to come so could be a years salary for this unsavory fellow and a nice percentage for GP.
Fun history lesson, maybe more interesting to the US folks on the board rather than the brits. Many are familiar with the Kennedy Family. Most people think the Kennedy fortune was built on bootlegging. At least that was delivering a product people actually wanted. The real wealth came when Joe Kennedy put his bootlegging money to work robbing everyday folks through stock manipulation. That was just before he we put the fox in the hen house and he became head of chairman of the Securities and Exchange commission. Here is an excerpt from The Sins of the Father - by Ronald Kessler
"Joe made fabulous sums through what were known as stock pools. This was a way of manipulating the market by forming a syndicate and arranging for the members to trade stock back and forth. By bidding the price of the stock higher, the pool members created the appearance that the public was bidding up the price. In fact, the syndicate members retained the profits, and when the trading public bit by joining the action, the syndicate members sold out, leaving the public with losses. Joe called the practice "advertising" the stock."
just a fun nugget you can use at your next dinner party

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Shoot Again on Feb 12, 2014 17:54:19 GMT 1, Somebody must have a good laugh somewhere watching this and cashing on his master plans ! ;-) I have to say that watching all this from far away (not interested at all by the print myself) was quite entertaining and instructive ;-) As mentioned before, good for those who will happily have this print on their wall for some time (even though I believe the pricing was wrong), but I also agree that it was bad form it got released at the same that time as PEZ's...

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Art Fan 2011 on Feb 12, 2014 18:22:16 GMT 1, Feb 12th, the day the world officially went mad !! over 150 people have just spent over £100 pounds each on a picture of an Elephant, a Rat and some flowers in the hope that the "unknown" artist may be Banksy himself !!?? This has been hyped beyond all recognition, and I bet the person behind it cannot believe their luck, and how easy it is to part people from there hard earned money!
This whole thing has left me wondering what`s next, it seems anyone can now make it as a sell out artist, create an image using other peoples ideas, get a load printed, don't give yourself a name, then suggest that you may be BANKSY, and hey presto, sell out prints week in week out #speechless

No-one's been tricked or duped into buying it. If people have a spare £90 to buy a piece of art then why not ?
Way to much hysterical emo posts on here for such a small release.

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by dranfan14 on Feb 12, 2014 18:35:58 GMT 1, I agree its nuts some of the theorys coming out on here. I missed out on it sadly.... I got the email at 3.15pm saw the image and wanted it all before I read about any of these crazy theorys about banksy blah blah blah.... its a great image and £90 isn't a lot of money to pay for a picture. If I liked it and wanted one for £90 its not too hard to believe 100 other people did too.

OUTIS • Print Release • Street Art, by Happy Shopper on Feb 12, 2014 18:53:41 GMT 1, Not in this case... the identity of the artist was made a big deal of by the gallery... so that's the discussion. Funny really, as how many street artists do we know the real identity of?... or care? I'm just curious. Where do you see that the gallery made a big deal about the artist? Because they used the word MYSTERIOUS? You might want to re read the thread from the beginning.... it's kind of the whole promotion for the release. We've not been talking for 9 pages about the flowers.
