Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 14, 2014 16:55:21 GMT 1, ^^ haven't seen it back but think he just stood into it... prob not Caseys fault. Considering the winner was beaten by 3 lenghts receiving 10Ibs you'd have think Briar Hill would have won if he stood up. But they're there to be jumped. Big loss for me ....

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 3, 2015 18:06:42 GMT 1, Another year around the corner.... I know there are few on here that have more than a passing interest. Heading over for Gold Cup day after a few years sabbatical. Can't wait! My thoughts so far....
DAY 1:
Supreme: Douvan (7/4) is according to connections as โnice a horse as theyโve even sent to Cheltenhamโ - considering these connections have won the last 2 runnings of the race this statement canโt be easily dismissed. For me this is a race to take advantage of bookies offers on the day and factor in this what bets one makes. NRNB is in play and to date Paddy Powers offer of money back on all runners if Douvan wins is most interesting. For the bookmaker this means they want to take money on other horses and avoid an unbalanced book, a Douvan win is their worst outcome, it will be the fist leg of many multiple bets. The average punter will lower their stake on other runners and if Douvan wins they will have the punter collecting for small stakes and returning to the shop with the hope of keeping their business in the biggest betting week of the year for the rest of the 26 races.
Play: Back LโAmi Serge in PP @ 7/2 and Seedling 20/1 for small stakes, have a cut off Douvan.
ARKLE:
Un de Sceaux wins if he stands up. This is an each way play in the hope of picking up the pieces of this potential superstar has a mishap. Donโt think it will happen, while a faller first time out over fences he has experience of french hurdles in the back end of last year which are the evaluate of intermediate fences over here. Josses Hill if as Geraghty hopes jumps better with the quicker pace of the Arkle might follow him home.
Play: No bet.
ULTIMA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS HANDICAP CHASE:
Until declarations its hard the finalise bets a week out. The short list at the moment include: Ned Stark, The Grand Jester, The Druids Nephew. Note you need to focus on horses carrying less than 11:02IBโs
CHAMPION HURDLE: Another great race, Faugheen could be anything and quite easily could run away with this, but has beaten very little thus far in career. At the price he has to be taken on. For me the lone English challenger The New One isnโt the one to do it with. Last years perceived hard luck story is questionable, I think he got outpaced at a crucial point and stayed on after Jetzi and My Tent or Yours cut each others throats from a long way on. While I love Hurricane Fly, unless there was a monsoon between here and the start I canโt see him challenging despite having the best current form - Cheltenham and good ground just doesnโt play to his strengths. Jetzi seems the most likely, but I just donโt think he is the classiest horse and find it hard to believe heโll do back to back Champion Hurdles. At a bigger price Arctic Fire, has course form, profile and potential improvement at a decent each way price is the tentative choice.
Play: Arctic Fire 14/1 each way. Will put Jetzi in a multiple bet as a saver.

Josses Hill if as Geraghty hopes jumps better with the quicker pace of the Arkle might follow him home. Smashing is a horse I like and Gods Own at 40/1 has to be the most over priced horse in the race if not the whole meeting, a Grade 1 winner that started joint Favorite for the Tingle Creek... unless he's missing a leg I don't understand it. Using Paddy Powers offer of money back if Un de Sceaux wins..
Play: Back God's Own at 40/1 Smashing 20/1 both to win, God's Own in a Lucky 15
ULTIMA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS HANDICAP CHASE:
The Druids Nephew is a tentative play in a wide open handicap. The long held adage that 11.02 was the max weight a winner could carry was broken last year by the Holywell.. The Druids Nephew is unlikely to develop into a Gold Cup standard horse so a small stake bet is all I'll have. The money for Pendra and Gallant Oscar is noteworthy due to connections... but feel that boat has sailed price wise. Tenor Nivernais is a horse at the bottom of the handicap I think might stay on into a place.
Play: The Druids Nephew 9/1, Tenor Nivernais 40/1 e/w both small stakes. CHAMPION HURDLE:

Play: Arctic Fire 14/1 each way. Will put Jetzi 6/1 in a multiple bet (Lucky 15) as a saver.
MARES HURDLE:
Annie Power will win.... of all Mullins short price runners this is the one certainty. L'Unique 20/1 to chase her home.
THE NATIONAL HUNT CHASE: Nearly had a heart attack when I heard Gigginstown were running Very Wood 7/2 in the RSA Chase. This is his race, one of the bets of the week never mind day. The Job is Right 8/1 to chase him home.
Play: Very Wood 7/2 win (NAP), The Job is Right in a Lucky 15
NOVICE HANDICAP CHASE:
Two horses stand out and snuck in at bottom of the handicaps. Thomas Crapper 7/1 and Keltus, but have decent festival form and could be well handicapped. Particularly like Keltus 10/1 and after Very Wood is my main bet of the day.
Play: Keltus 10/1 and Thomas Crapper Lucky 15.
Good luck to all......

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 10, 2015 9:20:00 GMT 1, Elwheel,
Keltus at 9 or 10/1 in the last today, Endemyi of AJ Martin in Pertemps, Carsonstown Boy in the Foxhunters is a Northern Irish horse who came 2nd last year and had a great prep coming 2nd to a very decent horse over too short a distance he is 16/1 - 20/1. In the Martin Pipe on Friday, Noble Endeavour is way to long at 16/1. Beat Windsor Park who is fancied for the Neptune in a bumper and just has had a low key build up. His trainer G Elliot worked in Pipes for years and has stated he'd love to win the race.

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 10, 2015 23:44:30 GMT 1, Day 1 went ok, 2/1 & 9/1 winners, 40/1, 20/1, 10/1, 7/1 placed. Fingers crossed for day 2.
Day 2: NEPTUNE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT NOVICES' HURDLE: Todays racing showed the Irish novice hurdlers have the edge over their English rivals. Its no surprise 3 of them are at the top of the bookies price lists. There doesnโt seem to be much between Outlander, Nichols Canyon & Windsor Park, they could all fight out the finish, if theres a kink in any jumping it will be found out jumping the last. The surer jumper is Outlander 9/2. Of the complete outsiders I wouldnโt be surprised if Snow Falcon 33/1 outran his price.
Play: Outlander 9/2 win. Snow Falcon 33/1 e/w/Lucky 15
RSA CHASE: Todays racing also showed the Irish novice chasers are matched more evenly with the English. This fills me with confidence all my anti-post bets on The Young Master now 11/2 are still in with a shout. I still prefer him to the Irish favorite Don Poli. I donโt think the race has the debt of previous years and canโt look past these two, Kings Palace will look like the winner 2 out then blow up, Southfield Theatre surely isnโt classy enough. Wounded Warrior likes a bog, If in Doubt will hit two many fences.
Play: The Young Master 11/2 win
CORAL CUP: A seriously competitive race, have really liked Actival 9/1 for the race for a while, he has hit the cross bar in top handicaps this year, but the step up in trip should bring further improvement. That said there are probably something a little better handicapped. Two take the eye, Goodwood Mirage 20/1 and Hisaabaad 33/1, AP McCoy is on the John Joe OโNeill runner despite their being 2 JP McManus runners which is interesting in itself. John Joe in previews stated this was his best handicapped horse. Hisaabaad came 4th in the Galway Hurdle, likes good ground, has acted at the track previously so I think is over priced.
Play: Goodwood Mirage 20/1 and Hisaabaad 33/1 each way, Actival 9/1 in Lucky 15... Remember most but not all bookies are playing 5 places.
QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION CHASE: A race that is impossible to analyze due to the imponderables of if Sprinter Sacre is back to his best or not. If he is heโll win, but he wonโt carry my money, think heโll be there till the bottom of the hill and then his breathing issues will reoccur. Sire de Grugy won a weaker race last year and has question marks. Dodging Bullets carried my money last year in the Arkle, didnโt get up the hill, canโt see him do it this year either. Of the front 4 in the market Champagne Fever has the most solid form especially on the course. But I think Simply Ned 20/1 could spring a surprise, his Novice form has worked out and has been carefully prepped for this.
Play: Simply Ned 20/1 each way, Champagne Fever 11/2 in Lucky 15
CROSS COUNTRY: A race I really like despite its detractors, and have had some success in it. Any Currency 5/1 was one of my bankers last year and will be in the action towards the end of the race tomorrow. I just think there might be something a little classier to come and nick it off him again. I have never backed a horse blind before but Toutancarmont 8/1 a french runner could be anything. These bank races are much more popular than the UK or Ireland and feel could prove to be better than either the Irish or English brigades. Sire Collonges 8/1 is weighted to turn form around with Any Currency and is a player also. The Irish team is very weak, doubt theyโll feature.
Play: Toutancarmont 8/1 win bet, Sire Collonges 8/1 in a Lucky 15
FRED WINTER: Hate this race, only once have I found the winner of this race. Its a minefield for punters and a benefit for the bookies. It being Cheltenham I probably will have a loose bet just for an interest, Zarib is tentative choice at 12/1 for connections that know the time of day. Hostile Fire has been well backed, I think mainly for association to the stables previous winner for the same connections off the exact same rating Play: If you feel sorry for the bookies have a bet. If stuck, Zarib each way 12/1 CHAMPION BUMPER: Another minefield for punters, but I do really like an English horse Moon Racer 8/1, he joined the Pipe stable after romping home in Ireland for a trainer having his first runner on the track at 80 years of age. Youโd imagine David Pipe would improve him further and is a course winner. Of the Irish team General Principle of Gordan Elliots 16/1 is interesting, the OโLearys have previously ignored the bumper so hard to know is it a change of direction for their team or the two entries are standouts.
Play: Moon Racer 8/1 win bet, General Principle 16/1 in a Lucky 15
Day 1 went ok, 2/1 & 9/1 winners, 40/1, 20/1, 10/1, 7/1 placed. Fingers crossed for day 2.

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by elwheel on Mar 10, 2015 23:48:36 GMT 1, Now then.
The Festival lucky 15 is as Dasiums 50p e/w. I'm just a punter and only at Cheltenham and the Grand National so I have no expertise or foresight at all other than a rudimentary look at form, jockey, trainer and a read of the spotlight. I don't bet big and ยฃ15 as a 50p e/w yankee keeps my interest. I always steers clear of races with strong favourites as I like value odds - may as well be lose on a long-shot as a favourite - its is gambling after all.
My day two e/w lucky 15 is therefore the following (and only ยฃ9.90 - don't want to replenish the pp account just yet as I'm feeling luuccckkkkyyyy!)
1.30pm - Vyta du Roc taken at 6/1 3.20pm - Mr Mole taken at 10/1 4.40pm - Box Office taken at 16/1 5.15pm - Pylonthepressure taken at 12/1

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by supercockle on Mar 11, 2015 21:19:53 GMT 1, Managed three places today. Nothing major but an overall profit on the day.
Bouvreuil Tagliatelle Southfield Theatre.
Yes, those tips are quite useless after the event.

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 12, 2015 11:42:32 GMT 1, Day 3: Yesterday was a sticky one, nothing lost but nothing gained, at least I got an 8/1 winner in the last and a placed horse, with a non runner also... so got out unscathed. Todays thoughts...
13:30 JLT NOVICES CHASE: If the real Vautour (5/2) turns up he wins... but as there are questions from his Leopardstown run I'm going to take him on. He beat nothing last time out, but after the festival last year the Mullins camp thought he was better than Faugheen... so heโs held in lofty regard. I think his stablemate Valser Lido (5/1) will give him most to think about at the prices and again bet in Paddy Power in this race as if you finish second or third to Vautour you get your money back.
Play: Valser Lido 5/1 each way in Paddy Power.
14:05 PERTEMPS FINAL: Edeymi 10/1, Regal Encore 11/1 and Run Ructions Run 20/1 are my three against the field in a particularly muddling handicap. AJ Martin runners needless to say always require a second luck in any handicap especially in Cheltenham. Edeymiโs run the qualifier race raised the suspicions of the Stewarts in Musselburgh.... it was eye catching to say the least. Regal Encore was a very good bumper horse that has only recently got his act together - more improvement is expected. Run Ructions Run is chosen more because of a stable whisper.
Play: Betting Edeymi 10/1, Regal Encore 11/1 and Run Ructions Run 20/1
14:40 RYANAIR CHASE: The Ryanair is the most competitive of the championship races this year with plenty in it with chances. Don Cossack could be another Irish winner for the week, the only nagging concern is his course form where he came down in the RSA last year. My main bet of the day is on Ma Filleule (5/1), the ground, track and improvement from her Ascot run should swing it her way. Balder Success prefers smaller fields and think has been flattered by underperforming horses or ones lacking fitness in previous victories. Play: Ma Filleule (5/1)
15:20 WORLD HURDLE: Another competitive championship race, I donโt think the Irish Challenge is up to much. Monksland might outrun his price but bar that doubt the rest will play a part. Zarkander is a weak favorite for me, while winning over 3 miles in France those races are ran at a crawl and then turn into a sprint... I donโt think he fully stays. Un Temps Pour Tout (12/1) and Saphir Du Rheu (6/1) are second season hurdlers that are most open to improvement.
Play: Saphir Du Rheu (6/1) Win bet. Un Temps Pour Tout (12/1) in a lucky 15
16:00 BROWN ADVISORY AND MERRIEBELโฆ Another competitive handicap... it doesnโt get any easier! Montaire 8/1 but being backed all morning and will start shorter is my play. Could be anything and well regarded. Buywise 10/1 if his jumping holds up could be decent. Attaglance 12/1 was hugely unlucky in the festival last year and also holds claims.
Play: Montaire 8/1 win bet, Attaglance 12/1in Lucky 15
16:40 KIM MUIR HANDICAP: Not a race to get really animated about it... probably will back Champagne James (10/1) for Ted Walsh. Has been running over shorter trips and the step up in trip should bring further improvement. Tom Taaffe only brings over runners that will be competitive, booking the top Irish amateur in Derek OโConnor is noteworthy so Golden Bullet is respected. Ireland had the 1st, 2nd and 4th last year.. but had a very poor record in this race previously so tread cautiously.
Play: Champagne James (10/1) Each way, Golden Bullet 10/1 in a Lucky 15
17:15 CHARITY RACE: A friend of mine is riding Churchfield in this... Best of luck Olive Murphy !! What a thrill to get the chance to ride in Cheltenham Racecourse and has raised over 30K for charity already, her chosen charity is the Injured Jockeys Fund. With John Joe's current stable form the 20/1 Paddy Power have up could be value! Anybody wishing to contribute to Oliveโs fund-raising effort can contact: olivecheltenham2015@ gmail.com
