Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 5, 2014 22:50:12 GMT 1, Hey I know some, if not all on here have a liking for the nags and we've had a thread going for the last few years... so thought I'd start off this years discussion. Have had a little more time this year to go racing and put in a bit more study of form, so heres hoping it pays off... any thoughts floating around out there...?
For those that like rumour and the proverbial tip, JOSIES ORDERS (16/1) in the Pertemps on day 3 has had the tongues wagging, the story being all prize money it wins at the festival will go to the JP McNamara Fund (the jockey that horrifically got paralyzed during last years festival)... its owned by JP McManus, trained by John O'Neill, the connections of the horse that caused the horrific accident. I'll post more analytical thoughts in the coming days...

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 6, 2014 18:22:13 GMT 1, Day 1:
Supreme: Gilgamboa 20/1* (Now 14/1) (AP McCoy going to ride so will contract by the off)
Arkle: Think Champagne fever is one of the lays of the meeting... Trifolium*** for me/ Dodging Bullets to chase him home.
Bayless Chase: No declarations yet, imagine if declared Holywell and Cantlow will be in the shake up. Going to put up an outsider Muldoons Picnic at 25/1
Champion Hurdle: My gut says to have no bet as its such a great race it should be just enjoyed. Now that Captain Cee BEE has been supplimented I think Jetzi at 10/1 will place and there will be 8 runners...
Mares Hurdle: No bet... Quevega should hose up/ Down Ace to chase her home.
Nat Hunt Chase: Shutthefrontdoor 8/1 (Now 11/2)11/4****.... main bet in day one.
Nov Handicap Chase: Ericht... 12/1 * (Art of Logistics 10/1 all the rage here in Ireland)
Really like Next Sensation 8/1**** in the Grand Annual
Others to look out for are Tap Night/Attaglance (which ever chases they end up in)/Lindenhurst 12/1 (Fred Winter)/Soll 33/1 Cross Country/Corrin Wood 9/1 RSA/Pearlysteps 12/1 Foxhunters /Inis Meain 14/1 Coral Cup

1:30 - Wicklow Brave and Vauteur (if your anywhere near a Paddy Powers use them and their offer in this... if your horse comes 2/3/4th they'll refund the stake up to 50. I'm a Vautour fan, my fear being that its hard to know which is the best of the Mullins camp.. Vincent O Brien used say if you thought you'd 3 derby hopefuls, you'd none. This applies to his trio in the bumper also where I like Killultagh Vic but his 3 horses are 6/7/8 to 1 and can hardly be split.)
2:05 - Champagne Fever: (think he's in the wrong race... a lay for me)
3:20 - Hurricane Fly (NAP) (its be expensive but I've always taken him on in Cheltenham... might sit this one out)
4:40 - Foxrock (they're seriously bullish about this guy.... if you fancy him look out for Sizing Gold in the JLT, Henry De Bromhead is gushing about him, Foxrock had the toe to bet him comfortably over 3... )
Day 2:
1:30 - Faugheen
2:05 - Carlingford Lough (I'm a fan and backed it in Galway on Plate day... all the word the last few days has been for Morning Assembly... will probably side with him. Have had a few on Corrin Wood Anti post)
3:20 - Sire De Grugy (This one I'm definitely taking on, was talking to a bookie with a decent pitch in Cheltenham, they are going to lay this fellow all day... keep an eye on Special Tiara at a big price, the ground is coming round, comfortably beat Sire De G in Aintree on good ground last year)
4:00 - Big Shu (NAP) (backed last year... will again this year, Any Currency the one I'm afraid of)
Day 3:
1:30 - Felix Younger (should be in the Arkle... his class and the ground will see him through here, think he is a machine on decent ground my NAP of the week)
3:20 - Annie Power (3/1) (I've been playing A Girl In The Saddle Of A Steed in anticipation of a female beating the men, especially that nonce bucket big bucks) (No arguments... but again should be in another race... the Champion..)
4:40 - Indian Castle (not from a million miles away to Derek O Connor and he's awfully sweet on this fellow)
Day 4:
1:30 - Le Rocher (has been my anti post pick too.... the ground a little big concern, won last two times on heavy... did win first time out on good/soft in France but it was a weak contest)
2:40 - Briar Hill (NAP) (agree totally)
3:20 - Bobs Worth (Don't think last Installment will run due to the ground, at a massive price I'm hoping for a big run from Lyreen Legend, worked really well alongside Our Conor in Leopardstown last sunday. On his Own being supplemented is interesting... his run against Mount Belbulbon was awesome last time... think he could be another Hedgehunter placing in the Gold Cup before going on to Aintree)
4:00 - On the Fringe (only worry for me is the way he ran 2 years ago when favourite... not sure he acts on the track... not a race I hold a strong opinion on, maybe Pearlysteps at a price)
Day 1: 1:30 - Wicklow Brave and Vauteur 2:05 - Champagne Fever 3:20 - Hurricane Fly (NAP)4:40 - Foxrock Day 2: 1:30 - Faugheen 2:05 - Carlingford Lough 3:20 - Sire De Grugy 4:00 - Big Shu (NAP)Day 3: 1:30 - Felix Younger 3:20 - Annie Power (3/1) (I've been playing A Girl In The Saddle Of A Steed in anticipation of a female beating the men, especially that nonce bucket big bucks) 4:40 - Indian Castle Day 4: 1:30 - Le Rocher 2:40 - Briar Hill (NAP)3:20 - Bobs Worth 4:00 - On the Fringe Day 1: 1:30 - Wicklow Brave and Vauteur (if your anywhere near a Paddy Powers use them and their offer in this... if your horse comes 2/3/4th they'll refund the stake up to 50. Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 11, 2014 9:24:16 GMT 1, ^ thanks sir... only option is to phone them in! or if you're a bit more techie than me change you IP address you can get round it.
Cheltenham Day 1:
Race 1. Gilgamboa sacrifices a handicap opportunity off 140 to have a crack in this, a decision that has to be respected but with the offer Paddy Power are offering Vautour @ 7/2 is a bet to nothing.... will definately be in first 4, and the most likely winner and my bet. Wilde Boy Younder could be anything at 25/1...
Race 2. Have backed Dodging Bullets anti post... not having another bet. Trifollium seemingly hasn't had the easiest of preps which has caused me to sit this out.
Race 3. Time For Rupert beaten less than 10 lenghts 2 years ago in Gold Cup, has had his problems since, class may tell. Muldoons Picnic 33/1/ Wrong Turn the stats picks.
Race 4. Such a great race... just going to sit this out and watch it.. have an inkling Jetzi is the one though.
Race 5. Quevega should win barring a mishap, 10/11 isn't a bad price for her, I just don't play the short ones. Caillin Annamh to follow him home.
Race 6. Can't see past Shutthefrontdoor or Foxrock, have Shutfrontdoor backed at8/10 to 1 so won't be having another bet today..
Race 7. Art Of Logistics (12/1) and Manyriverstocross (10/1)... newer race and the stats haven't settled (last two winners were top weights).

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 11, 2014 19:15:28 GMT 1, Mixed up and down day.... so sad the loss of Our Conor, they ground is probably too fast, esp in the championship races. Vautour was awesome, put me in a strong position for the week. Had to have a bet in the champion despite my protests that I wouldn't, so Jetzi was a nice winner.

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 12, 2014 0:28:40 GMT 1, Cheltenham Day 2:
Mixed results on day one but comfortably ahead on proceedings. Vautour was good, Jezki was the icing on the cake. Our Conor having to be put down was tragic and really put a damper on the whole thing.
1:30 : Faugheen 9/4 a worthy favourite, in his first start in a bumper he beat Josses Hill by 22 lengths (that horse came 2nd to Vautour in the supreme today). BUT he jumps like shit... he's the best horse in the race, and most likely winner but vulnerable. A small play for me.... Cup Final at 20/1 could run a big race being stepped up in trip.
2:05: Wide open race as the betting suggests. My two against the field are Morning Assembly 7/1 (who for the trainer I'd dearly love to win) and Corrin Wood 10/1. Think the favorite Ballycasey is opposable and while Carlingford Lough as the experience I doubt if there is much improvement to got from him. Expect morning assembly to finish ahead of both.
2:40: Really really like Dell'Arco (12/1) in this, the Pipe team are flying it. This horse could have ran in the race called after his father too but they placed him here. Far West 20/1 worth a few quid too.
3:20: Really think the favourite is opposable, would go as far as to say I doubt he'll even place. Special Tiara 14/1 beat him hands down on good ground in Aintree... think he will again. Captain Conan 5/1 /Baily Green 10/1 the danger....
4:00: Big Shu worthy fav again 5/1 an e/w steal. Any Currency 12/1 the value bet for me.
4:40: Graveyard race normally for punters... backed Flaxen Flare last year at 25/1... think the stable might have the winner again this year in Clarcam 16/1. Dawalan 8/1 the danger.
5:15: Not a clue... Killultagh Vic 9/1 if you put a gun to my head....

That was sweet. I've been hitting the crossbar... 12/1 on both Dell Arca/Any Currency, 9/1 Morning Assembly and 5/1 Big Shu all placed.... didn't go crazy on Faugheen but still up for the day. Only have pittance on the last on Killultagh Vic.

We can do it all again tomorrow, been a great festival so far, very entertaining, and fairly fruitful so far!

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 12, 2014 23:59:29 GMT 1, Cheltenahm Day 3:
Today was a real hit the cross bar kinda day... Dell'Arca & Any Currency @ 12/1, 9/1 Morning Assembly and 5/1 Big Shu all placed.... didn't go crazy on Faugheen but still up for the day. Gutted to see the price Briar Hill is on Friday now after Mullins domination of the novice hurdle events... was my nap of the meeting.
1:30 JLT: Felix Younger 4/1 has been a fancy all winter for me... despite them running him in the wrong race (should have been in the Arkle) he has the class to take this.
2:05 Pertemps: The horse I was hoping would run has been diverted to a race on friday. Speculative bet on Jossies Order 12/1, rumour has it all winnings from this horse will go to the JT MacNamara fund (not 100% if thats true or not). Hits all the stats for the race, should go well.
2:40 Ryanair Chase: Benefficient 7/2... course form. Beat Dynaste last year as an outsider, no reason to believe he can't uphold the placings. Not a race I hold a strong opinion on.
3:20 World Hurdle: Rule the World 10/1 is a solid each way choice. Thought he'd be shorter. Annie Power the class horse, should win... if she stays, at the price I'm not will to take the chance on that.
4:00 Byrne Plate: McCoy had a couple of options in this... think he may have gone for the wrong one yet again this week. Of the McManus's Tap Night 12/1 has always interested me. Sraid Padraig 8/1 is also respected, I'll probably do those in a double/treble cover bet... Shanghai @ 16/1 the choice, this is very much a stats pick, but from a very inform stable that had 5 entries in this and left this one in.
4:40 Kim muir: In a year of all Ireland success, marathon winning feats... I think we will add a Cheltenham winning jockey to the list... Tubber man Derek O'Connors mount Indian Castle 7/1 with Paddy Power the pick!
It'll be a steady day tomorrow. Its always a real tricky one for punters, ahead so don't want to give it back to them.... Till friday at least!
Good luck.
Cheltenahm Day 3:
Today was a real hit the cross bar kinda day... Dell'Arca & Any Currency @ 12/1, 9/1 Morning Assembly and 5/1 Big Shu all placed.... didn't go crazy on Faugheen but still up for the day. Gutted to see the price Briar Hill is on Friday now after Mullins domination of the novice hurdle events... was my nap of the meeting.
1:30 JLT: Felix Younger 4/1 has been a fancy all winter for me... despite them running him in the wrong race (should have been in the Arkle) he has the class to take this.

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by lugh on Mar 13, 2014 6:18:01 GMT 1, Just over even myself with a nice few doubles/trebles on the go.
Champagne Fever was the let down for me. But if Annie Power takes it today I'll be healthily up.
Good to see some others winning.

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 13, 2014 20:02:07 GMT 1, Well done Damien... I always find the Thurs the toughest day of the week. Really pulled in the reins this year thankfully. Got good word for Spring Heeled in the last and had a small bet that covered the day with interest. Tomorrow is D-Day for me... have had a decent bet last week on Briar Hill and have 3 trebles riding on to him.
Looking forward to it....

Cheltenham 2015: Any thoughts worth sharing! , by dasium on Mar 14, 2014 13:19:22 GMT 1, Cheltenham Day 4:
D-Day for me at this years festival. Today was a bit of a mare, nothing clicked at all, but played it really steady as I didn't overtly fancy many. Felix Younger was costly and took a chunk out the weeks profit, think Willie Mullins paid the price of having too many great horses and in an effort to get a victory for all, left his team a little thin. Annie Power, Felix and Champagne Fever were in the wrong races, I think all will be back and claim victories in future festivals....
Triumph Hurdle: The ill fated Our Conor was my festival nap last year, unfortunately nothing as strongly fancied this time round. Le rocher and Actival if they ran would have been of interest, but they were late withdrawals. I think the favourite is oppossible and can't understand why Broughton is so short in the betting. Word from the course is Guitar Pete has been working unbelievable. Like day one Paddy Power are offering a promotion thats going to be factored into my bet... if your horse comes 2nd or 3rd they'll give you your money back... I'm going to do 2 win bets on Tiger Roll 8/1 and Royal Irish Huzzars 8/1... use PP only on this race.
County Hurdle: Again a couple of horses I hoped would run in other races have turned up in this... Alaivan 14/1, Cheltenian 9/1, and Rainbow Peak 20/1... make sure you use a bookie paying 5 places in this, most but not all will. Alaivan I think will be punted today... pricewise after putting him up as a tip in the Racing Post too. rainbow Peak was a group horse on the flat and only pulling the finger out of hurdles, could seriously improve. Cheltenian is a former festival winner and Hobbs reckoned was his best chance of a win this week... he won yesterday with Fingal Bay.
Albert Bartlett: Briar Hill... biggest bet of the week...my whole Cheltenham revolves around this fellow, have him in doubles trebles and my single biggest win bet of the 4 days. He will determine whether I'm for the the week or really up! Was the most fancied of the trio of Vautour /Faugheen and himself... you saw what the others did....
Gold Cup: The showpiece event, Bobsworth a three time festival winner, in form and with the ground that he likes should win... but there is value in who chases him home. Think The Giant Bolster 14/1 e/w and at a massive price Lyreen Legend 40/50 to 1 could do just that.
Foxhunters: Very 'in the know people' say On the Fringe' 7/2 can't be beaten... I'm a little more cautious with him... my tip is Pearly Steps 12/1 e/w, rated exactly the same as 'On the Fringe' but 3 times the price... think he'll at least reach the frame.
Matin Pipe: Nightmare of a race... markets probably got it right with the Full Shift 7/1 ... have heard word about the Skyfarmer 18/1 and know Paul Nicholls has had an anti post bet on Caid de Berlais 10/1... no bet for me
Grand Annual: Really fancy Next Sensation 8/1, he'll either win or fall. Sketchy jumper but has a serious engine.... how the day is developing will determine how much I stick on him but do really like. Astracad at 33/1 could run into a place.
