New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 15, 2014 18:14:05 GMT 1, i actually think if its a case of a club which keeps hundreds of kids off the streets of the most notorious part of Bristol (St Pauls) staying open. Or some t**t making from it there is no choice. My choice would be it permanantly on the streets. Clearly that ain't happening. So looks like all of us are just going to have to either except whats going on or fight against it. You can all email the bloke from Broad plain boys club and let him know you views.

But by all means email them too.

New Banksy?, by rioja on Apr 15, 2014 18:17:49 GMT 1, It is a shame it didn't last longer - it had to be appreciated at night under that eerie street light I reckon. One of the joys of BOTI was watching the narrative for each piece unfold but the longer they stayed on the streets the better. Ultimately I suppose a benefit to the community would be a positive outcome to this narrative.

And just asked them if he had permission to remove it from there property. Along with all the details along with this photo
first I received an auto response saying I will hear back in ten days then 6 mins later I received a reply. i will post the emails here seems he didn't have permission after all and by the sounds of it the council are going to want it back.

New Banksy?, by twist65 on Apr 15, 2014 18:23:18 GMT 1, it shouldn't be a case of "the most community-minded thief gets it" though. I don't doubt all the good work they do but its not the clubs wall, so not theirs to take. if some other tosser nicks it for personal gain then thats very sad and inevitable but thats the way of the world.
I am sure they would have pretty good links with the council themselves and could have contacted the relevant authorities, maybe a few of the boys from the club protecting the piece til the Council showed up and decided what to do? Surely more moral than just nicking it before someone else does.

New Banksy?, by doyle on Apr 15, 2014 18:25:23 GMT 1, shame it has/is in process of being removed, the important thing (and many others) is its placement in the alcove. It won't look right sitting in the council offices or hanging by a boxing ring or anywhere else really.
love the glow in the dark paint!

It seems the council will, quite rightly, now decide what to do with it.

New Banksy?, by jaslfc5 on Apr 15, 2014 18:29:23 GMT 1, Shame it's gone but at least it's gone to a good cause and not some one who will tout it to dealers on four rooms . He clearly wanted it this way or he wouldn't have put it on such a portable bit of wood. He always goes for the drama rather than the easy donation route.

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 15, 2014 18:34:39 GMT 1, my friend asked me the other day - "If Banksy is such a great guy, why doesn't he just keep selling prints and give the money to charity". and my response was somewhere along the lines of "He paints masterpieces in public spaces so that everyone can enjoy them for free".
then crap like this happens....

Same for this. The guy said 'he coulda painted anywhere on the big wall but he chose this wood so it must have been meant for the club' that is hillarious. Wander who's filled his head with this rubbish considering he didnt know who banksy even was

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 15, 2014 19:11:55 GMT 1, Ok so I have just been to see the Banksy in Bristol. Lovely work of art. I talked at length with the owner of Broad plain boys club. I can tell you that the painting is being removed today, by a pro carpenter. It will then at some point be sold to help pay for the 120k the club needs to keep going. The guy knows nothing about Banksy, although he thinks he may have gone to the club when he was younger. He certainly didn't know Banksy's name when I mentioned it. I told him I am not a fan of street art being removed, but I can see no other option. It may as well go to the cause, its not a water charity after all ;-). Its on wood, there are a couple of pieces of gaffer tape covering up holes. The guy removed one to show me a large hole. I told him not to do it again. Anyway I am going to be advising him with what happens from now on with the piece. I do think Banksy meant for it to be used for the fund raising of the Boys club, but it's obviously just a guess. I was also interviewed by Heart FM about Banksy and the piece in question. Pictures to follow. As mentioned, if your not down there now, you won't see it.
