New Banksy?, by Warm Gun on Apr 15, 2014 19:18:18 GMT 1, Phone Lovers is a wonderful piece IMO. I feel I've maybe seen similar ideas to this before (I've certainly seen this happen in real life so perhaps I'm thinking of those situations) but for me what would make this piece stand out from any possible similar works is the masterful way in which Banksy uses the glow of the phones to light the the characters features. It's so well executed it just makes similar images of seem a diluted version of this one. using glow in the dark paint for this is yet another well thought out masterstroke from the king of his trade. I'd imagine that this piece is certainly best viewed in the dark of the night and was probably intended for that very purpose. For me the sheltered door entrance is a key part of this piece and offers a lot when setting a secluded and what should be an intimate scene. I feel that a lot of this impact will be lost once the piece is removed.

New Banksy?, by Warm Gun on Apr 15, 2014 19:22:27 GMT 1, Just noticed that this is now a pay per view piece, the boxing club boss seems to be no different to the street thugs in NY who were charging the public to see that beaver piece. This turn of events leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, good cause or not, it's street art and shouldn't be raped for profit by anyone. Probably best that these pieces are fucked up as soon as possible. I wonder if POW will acknowledge this piece?

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 15, 2014 19:29:42 GMT 1, A couple of years ago I and a few others from this forum raised £75,000 for a disabled forum buddy. To buy him a car, he was able to drive. we had orginal art donated from Walker, Jago, Xenz and a hundred or so others. Mike can now drive, for the first time since 1996. Charity work is close to my heart.
If this work of art helps hundreds of kids in a very deprived, drug riddled area, with loads of violent crime. So be it. Not one of you can tell me this work of art would have lasted or anything better could have come from it.

New Banksy?, by lee3 on Apr 15, 2014 19:49:48 GMT 1, >>>I wonder if POW will acknowledge this piece?<<
They already have as it's on the site. It will never get a COA however as all they do is lose from opening that can of worms. If there is a charitable angle to it, much easier to deliver something similar but on a different medium. Can you imagine the onslaught of requests in the future not to mention the disdain if they made an exception to that policy? That would further encourage the likes of Robin Barton and company and no good comes of that.
My guess is that it was a lovely spot to stroke inspiration for a painting on a door that caught his eye but that's just me.

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 15, 2014 19:50:40 GMT 1, So chaps and chapess's, I dont believe for a moment that the removal of the piece and the subsequent charging people to view it had anything whatsoever to do with Slammer or his chat with the bloke, hes a really decent sort who has done absolute tons for various charities over the years.
I reckon that Slammer just told the guy there what to expect etc, and also probably to be careful with it re dodgy sorts coming to nick it in the night and all that, inbetween Slammer talking to the bloke and the removal of it he probably had hundreds of people telling him what he should do about it.
In the end its a shame it was removed and to be honest i think its a fkin liberty charging people to see it albeit in a donation form. I would have liked to see it in its setting but couldnt get there, thats that.
What happens happens.
Bugger.

Well said wiz. Slammer is a very kind hearted gentleman. He has had a passion for art for years. He was one if the first people I met on this forum. For no other reason than generosity and a love of street art, slammer took time out from his family to show me around Bristol, to see art that I would never have found without him. Slammer is undoubtedly one of the good guys here.
