If been listening all night and they haven't mentioned the painting. f**king mind numbing s**t radio station. back to the ipod. Why are you waiting to hear it ? You were there ............lol Because I love hearing myself on the radio. The west country accent makes me sound thick as hell.

Anyways, more importantly the owner of the club does thinks it's a gift to them.
And a CCTV camera caught 2 poor dudes pretending to be council workers installing it under a blue tarp.
So pre-painted and quickly screwed?

New Banksy?, by Nick on Apr 15, 2014 22:34:59 GMT 1, And on a more serious note, the club owner, though he has good intentions has also nicked it. It wasn't on his wall. Hopefully the council will reclaim and either put it in the museum or auction off and spend directly on local infrastructure and services however the deem fit. He has no given right to assume the proceeds will be his and his clubs. There's hundreds of worthy charities and causes in the area which could do with a cash boost.

Then told one of the forum members I think slammer or toast that they had patched it up with tape then painted or there was tape in the first place covering some holes in the wood an the guy started pealing some off if I'm not mistaken. If you look at the guy in the pieces sleeve it looks damaged so would assume that's where he peeled off some tape?

Edit: This sounds like the plot of an Ealing comedy. Dame Helen Mirren would be well up for it.

Well done slammer ignore people on here having a pop mate..and its out of your control anyway if some one tries to get greedy. I think as its been removed and its a great piece, banksy should tell the guy to give it to the museum then produce another piece for auction to try and raise 120k, every ones's happy

New Banksy?, by Coach on Apr 15, 2014 23:20:58 GMT 1, The removal of it is on the BBC 10 o'clock news... calling it a 'mural'!!!! When did the f******g word mural become the norm!? I've only seen it used since 2012... I wish it would stop, it's a f*****g crap word! Stencil, vandalism, graffiti, painting, spray art, ugly... woteva, just not a word that sounds like it's a council instigated community painting that's designed by committee.
"Mural"s been used for ages, hasn't it? The great big cnd paintings on the sides of buildings used to commonly be called murals a few decades ago. I had a poster of one on my bedroom wall, when I was a teenager. Big skeleton grabbing missiles if memory serves. I agree though that the banksy is not what I'd call a mural. Either of the new ones. I always tended to think if murals as large commissioned/legal works.

New Banksy?, by doyle on Apr 16, 2014 0:29:03 GMT 1, shame it has/is in process of being removed, the important thing (and many others) is its placement in the alcove. It won't look right sitting in the council offices or hanging by a boxing ring or anywhere else really. love the glow in the dark paint! Don't be silly Doyle, since when has placement been Banksy's thing? He obviously only put it there as a gift for the Boys club as it wouldn't fit through their letterbox. why didn't you tell us this earlier?

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 0:50:28 GMT 1, I'd rather this work benefits the club rather than being stolen by people who are only interested in it for personal monetary gain. Even if it wasn't stolen it would be tagged / defaced beyond recognition. Now whilst many will say 'That's what happens to a street piece' the truth is, it will be defaced so quickly simply because it is by Banksy. Thus, what you eventually get to look at looks nothing like what it was. I don't even mind the owner asking a small charge for seeing the piece. His club is in danger of closing and he wants to raise as much money as he can. Over the years many people have made s**t loads of money out of Banksy. Many people on this forum own works which have increased massively in worth from what was originally paid but no one begrudges them that, as they were his supporters from the early days. If you own a Banksy that's great because not every one does. Many others, who aren't in the least interested in the art, have acquired his works cheaply with the sole intention of selling on for a huge profit. Such profits don't benefit the community. I think it clear to anyone that the owner of the club won't be lining his own pockets but is selling it for the right reasons. I'd rather the club benefits from the sale of this work rather than have the Council own it - it just isn't right that they own a Banksy work given that at one time they wanted Banksy arrested /locked-up and put out of action. Additionally, in my youth I was a member of a locally run boxing club which, at the very least, helped many youngsters keep of the streets and out of trouble and at most most made decent boxers out of others. The people who run these clubs work tirelessly with very little monetary gain and often struggle to pay the rent and buy new equipment etc. So, I hope the owner gets as much as possible to help keep the club open for a long while yet. Whats the difference between a struggling business and an opportunist who tries to flog a stolen streetpiece via an disputable auction house or gallery? Does being a do-gooder give you the right to do wrong? Its not his/their piece to do as they wish. If Banksy was that concerned about the club he would have done it on their friggin wall!!!

New Banksy?, by buckyturco on Apr 16, 2014 2:05:19 GMT 1, This is a funny lot on these forums. Everyone was all about charity a few weeks ago and some of those people are now complaining about Banksy's work going to a charity? You couldn't make this sh*t up. And all in all, was it really that great? Supporting children will do more good for the community than stenciled art on plywood.

I didn't imply that the work was his to take or that it was gifted to him. I just stated I would rather it was sold to benefit the club as opposed to being owned by the council or by some individuals who are only selling to benefit themselves. The owner of the club doesn't appear to be selling it so that he can pocket all the money himself - which is what self-supporting opportunists would do - he is taking advantage of the situation and I don't blame him for doing that given the circumstances regarding his club. I am not saying his cause is better than any other cause. I have not once said anything about what is right or wrong and neither did I say Banksy meant for the boxing club to have the work. I just gave my opinion on the matter and reasons as to why I'd rather the club benefited. I don't know anything about how Banksy's mind works. I have never met him nor any of his circle of friends. In fact I know diddly squat about him except for what I have read in books and who knows how much of what I have read is actually true. However, I would guess he doesn't care too much about what happens to his work otherwise he would ensure it isn't executed on an easily removed board and instead do all his work high-up on a building. As long as he gets the work done in situ (that's the important bit, placement) and gets a record of it for his site I guess that's his main aim. What happens after that is fair game, I guess, it's just that in this particular situation I am saying I have no issue with the boxing club benefiting.

New Banksy?, by Unica on Apr 16, 2014 3:10:24 GMT 1, I'm in the camp that if it wasn't on his wall, then he stole it. If it was meant for them then he would of sent them a piece or put it on their wall. My view is it was put on a council wall, a gift to the city of Bristol and should be placed in the Bristol museum for all to enjoy. Just because there is a boxing gym nearby doesn't give them the right to steal it. Hopefully the council will step in and claim it for the people of Bristol of enjoy.
I'm in the camp that if it wasn't on his wall, then he stole it. If it was meant for them then he would of sent them a piece or put it on their wall. New Banksy?, by Posters And Prints Blog on Apr 16, 2014 4:42:46 GMT 1, This is a funny lot on these forums. Everyone was all about charity a few weeks ago and some of those people are now complaining about Banksy's work going to a charity? You couldn't make this sh*t up. And all in all, was it really that great? Supporting children will do more good for the community than stenciled art on plywood. you again? SMH
