New Banksy?, by Dr Plip on Apr 16, 2014 12:48:30 GMT 1, Call me naïve, but would it be better if Banksy didn't post images of his work on his website? Let people find it for themselves? It's the age of the internet. People can spread images faster than herpes. They only really become financially worth taking once he's either stuck them on his website or in a book.

New Banksy?, by buckyturco on Apr 16, 2014 13:25:21 GMT 1, This is a funny lot on these forums. Everyone was all about charity a few weeks ago and some of those people are now complaining about Banksy's work going to a charity? You couldn't make this sh*t up. And all in all, was it really that great? Supporting children will do more good for the community than stenciled art on plywood. you again? SMH Oh hi. It's the misleading liar guy who sells art. Cool.

New Banksy?, by iamzero on Apr 16, 2014 13:43:32 GMT 1, Can't we just be happy that Bankrobber didnt get his hairy palms on it first?
I help coach boxing at a local gym so know how tempting it must've been to take this down and sell it for a descent cause, it's like finding Wonkas golden ticket or coming home to find Kylie in your bed.
I do think he's wrong in charging people a donation to view it though, he's gonna make a shit load of cash from its sale so fleeecing people see it now is just pure greed. Wise up fella and do the right thing dude.

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 14:33:17 GMT 1, The DM article is I believe incorrect to some extent. I think there are several things I said to 'Dennis' who I have never met before, which he didn't really understand. I showed him some of my paintings on my camera, I think he thought I was an artist. I never said I know Banksy. I mentioned a few facts(name bla bla) about him. Other things in the article too, which I said to the bloke. I would have told the DM to fuck themselves if they asked me for an interview.

New Banksy?, by Invaded 420 on Apr 16, 2014 14:38:25 GMT 1, I for one hope that Bristol Council pay this guy a visit and get their property back. This appears to be theft, no more no less and although for a seemingly good cause it's still a criminal act. As a forum, we're very happy to call out people that pinch Invaders etc, so this is no different. It's for the council to decide if they want it left on the street, put in a museum or sold to pay for something like charity and not some local guy that doesn't own the wall to decide. I hope you're well letissJust my penny's worth - (I don't have a legal background as you know): The piece was pre-painted/stencilled on plywood - then leaned up and screwed to a council door. The council own the door - not the plywood which the piece was painted on - it belongs to Banksy. When this piece was removed - the council door was not damaged in removing - and the council still have thier property i.e. their door. So would they have any legal redress about something that wasn't theirs? If I leaned up something against the council door - say a mattress - anyone walking buy would be in their right to remove it, bin it or sleep on it or sell it - The council may have a right to pursue me for fly-tipping, as they would have a right to pursue Banksy for vandalism - but not the guy that removed what was not theirs in the first place. If this was stencilled on the actual door that the council owned then you are right. But I think this Boxing club owner is in the clear - unless banksy comes back asking for his property - which I doubt he will. did you ignore previous posts? The guy who stole it had said the wood was already there. Where did pre painted come from? Like Chinese whispers

New Banksy?, by Carrie on Apr 16, 2014 15:12:38 GMT 1, My word, i posted this and steeled myself for the barrage of abuse that is likely forthcoming. Im sure it will come along in time though. I agree... double standards all the way. Just imagine the battle in their minds, 'graffiti bad, tags vandalism... oooh we like that mural, hope it's not vandalised'. The best example I've seen of this was the 2012 Olympics, (if I remember correctly) local writers have an exclusion zone around the park imposed on them (were walls buffed as well?), then the authorities organise an official event with artists they've chosen so they can control what's seen/painted. I believe walls were buffed - even some classic BC "walls of fame" if you like that were part of the Wick IMO. I think Moneyless was one of the artists they chose for the Olympics (I think he's Italian? Spanish? Not local basically.
Not sure if anyone remembers the Coca Cola advert/mural/crap that was created near the Hackney Wick overground stn - well that was trashed/"vandalised" pretty quickly - HAHA!

Cheers Carrie, I thought that was what happened, the Coke m***l was horrendous on every level especially because of the great pieces already there.
But I didn't have any problem with artists coming from wherever to paint, it was just how the Olympic organisers went about it. The whole point is the (illegal/legal) street art in Hackney and East London has made the area famous, but the organisers couldn't handle that so needed to do something that they could control.

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 16:48:17 GMT 1, Street art / urban art/ yadda yadda is not just socially acceptable, its absolutely embraced by the chattering classes- but only a certain part of the scene of course - see the South London ( East Dulwich) work of late- when the professional art facilitators and wealthy gallery lackeys get involved and start shouting its praises, in the background, you can hear those final nails being banged into them coffins. Obviously if you are ethnic, poor and do a bit of a tag now and then, you are still a criminal Could not agree more. We have seen Tox, Oker, Ceres, G. Money and Bice all jailed in recent times while other street artists have used cherry pickers to put up large murals.
I like the use of the word murals....
And on topic : Amen!

New Banksy?, by Unica on Apr 16, 2014 17:29:09 GMT 1, Oh dear this has degenerated quickly, such a shame that each time Banksy releases a piece someone stands to profit. The person who grabs/steals it first, is then surrounded by their new self appointed art experts/enforcers who then proceed to inform them of its potential value. Reminds me of the Sphinx piece in NY last year that the car repair shop worker claimed and then sold or gave on commission to a gallery to sell. Workers had no idea until that lady with the phone started calling galleries from them and got the white van in and hauled it away. I don't think its been seen since.
I'm now in favor of all the pieces being left to the vandals. Much better than all these greedy profiteers trying to get rich quick.

But your overall sentiment is valid, it is all vandalism after all.
