New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 18:01:06 GMT 1, Actually they were guarding it and had taken "ownership" well before she arrived on the scene. She just claimed to be some art insider and tried to get in on the action. But your overall sentiment is valid, it is all vandalism after all. I had the misfortune to speak with that Lady, it was like a cross cultural aural battering.
The Ladies at the Hustler were far more friendly.

Sorry I missed you. I had a great time hanging with Chris S and his wife, another long time Brit Banksy fanatic.
edit: have to agree the ladies were worth the wait. I think I gained quite a few followers that day

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 18:28:00 GMT 1, I agree... double standards all the way. Just imagine the battle in their minds, 'graffiti bad, tags vandalism... oooh we like that mural, hope it's not vandalised'. The best example I've seen of this was the 2012 Olympics, (if I remember correctly) local writers have an exclusion zone around the park imposed on them (were walls buffed as well?), then the authorities organise an official event with artists they've chosen so they can control what's seen/painted. I believe walls were buffed - even some classic BC "walls of fame" if you like that were part of the Wick IMO. I think Moneyless was one of the artists they chose for the Olympics (I think he's Italian? Spanish? Not local basically. Not sure if anyone remembers the Coca Cola advert/mural/crap that was created near the Hackney Wick overground stn - well that was trashed/"vandalised" pretty quickly - HAHA! One would have thought that for the Olympics they would have invited British artists above non Brits.
There again the government is happy to waste taxpayers money on crap so doubt they have any loyalty to British people.

There again even if they get 100K, whats the tax on that?

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 18:35:26 GMT 1, This would look better in a nice gilt frame. Someone should steal it. My take on this ownership issue is that it's anyones who wanted it.
If Banksy painted it on plywood then nailed it onto someones wall or door without their permission or knowledge and someone came along and un nailed it.
Technically they are just removing something that was not the property of the wall or property owner same as if they removed someones flyer or poster or dead rat that might have been nailed to a door.
It's only theft if Banksy said to the police afterwards that he gave it as a gift to the property owner and the property owner agreed.
People often stick all sorts of stuff on walls and doors and car windscreens and other people remove them.

He sprayed it in situ the wood was part of the door and has been there years.

Damn BBC sowing confusion
Oh well then if the ply was allready fixed it belongs to whoever owns the property.

Nope it's just shows him loading a huge blue board back into his van probably the one he put up to stop him from being seen whilst spraying.
the piece will be back in the councils possession in the next hour or so and will be put in Bristol museum for everybody to see.

i dont think banksy would ever cheat and just nail it up! Doing it on the street is all part of the fun.
plus I was up close with the piece you can see it had been there years the screws were all rusty probably why they ended up using a crow bar

New Banksy?, by Posters And Prints Blog on Apr 16, 2014 19:53:30 GMT 1, Oh hi. It's the misleading liar guy who sells art. Cool. If you are implying me, you are an idiot. I do not sell art on my blog. Please STOP bothering me with your emails about how bad of a person BNE is and how you were right, and how...blah blah blah. I hope the piece of art helps the boxing club but in reality it should go into the Bristol Museum's permanent collection.

New Banksy?, by Unica on Apr 16, 2014 20:26:36 GMT 1, Ok so I have just been to see the Banksy in Bristol. Lovely work of art. I talked at length with the owner of Broad plain boys club. I can tell you that the painting is being removed today, by a pro carpenter. It will then at some point be sold to help pay for the 120k the club needs to keep going. The guy knows nothing about Banksy, although he thinks he may have gone to the club when he was younger. He certainly didn't know Banksy's name when I mentioned it. I told him I am not a fan of street art being removed, but I can see no other option. It may as well go to the cause, its not a water charity after all ;-). Its on wood, there are a couple of pieces of gaffer tape covering up holes. The guy removed one to show me a large hole. I told him not to do it again. Anyway I am going to be advising him with what happens from now on with the piece. I do think Banksy meant for it to be used for the fund raising of the Boys club, but it's obviously just a guess. I was also interviewed by Heart FM about Banksy and the piece in question. Pictures to follow. As mentioned, if your not down there now, you won't see it. Sorry Slammer, just having a bit of fun. I see your an advisor to the Boys Club on what happens to the piece maybe you could tell us all a bit about the thought process behind stripping the piece off council property and putting it in their gym and now the about turn of handing it off to the council instead of the original plan of selling it at auction. Would love to hear it from an insider.
