New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 20:36:11 GMT 1, Ok so I have just been to see the Banksy in Bristol. Lovely work of art. I talked at length with the owner of Broad plain boys club. I can tell you that the painting is being removed today, by a pro carpenter. It will then at some point be sold to help pay for the 120k the club needs to keep going. The guy knows nothing about Banksy, although he thinks he may have gone to the club when he was younger. He certainly didn't know Banksy's name when I mentioned it. I told him I am not a fan of street art being removed, but I can see no other option. It may as well go to the cause, its not a water charity after all ;-). Its on wood, there are a couple of pieces of gaffer tape covering up holes. The guy removed one to show me a large hole. I told him not to do it again. Anyway I am going to be advising him with what happens from now on with the piece. I do think Banksy meant for it to be used for the fund raising of the Boys club, but it's obviously just a guess. I was also interviewed by Heart FM about Banksy and the piece in question. Pictures to follow. As mentioned, if your not down there now, you won't see it. Sorry Slammer, just having a bit of fun. I see your an advisor to the Boys Club on what happens to the piece maybe you could tell us all a bit about the thought process behind stripping the piece off council property and putting it in their gym and now the about turn of handing it off to the council instead of the original plan of selling it at auction. Would love to hear it from an insider. I have never met the Boys club manager before yesterday and probably won't again now. I just turned up as soon as I could to see a new Banksy, which I was told was being removed. On hearing this I simply stated what I thought would be best and that included getting in touch with Pest control before they do anything.

New Banksy?, by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 20:38:38 GMT 1, You were there Wiz? I thought you were enjoying it from your lovely garden. Sorry I missed you. I had a great time hanging with Chris S and his wife, another long time Brit Banksy fanatic. edit: have to agree the ladies were worth the wait. I think I gained quite a few followers that day No fella, you are quite correct, apart from a very very quick trip over and back I was plonked either at computer or in the garden here during the event, I would have loved to spend the whole length of BOTI over there. The Lady dealer / arranger or whatever she actually is was given my number here by someone, Christ knows why?, and she called me way after the Sphynx thing to ask if she could perhaps get me anything, I assume she meant from the show but didnt really go into detail, anyhow I politely declined her offer, I toyed with the idea of asking for a soft toy should the truck be dismantled after BOTI but thought better of it. On the night that the Hustler piece was being cut out i rang a friend over there who got one Lady from the club to call me to let me it was definitely happening, I spoke further to another very deep voiced Lady from the club who told me it was inside on show, the latter stays in touch still!. I would have liked to be over there during that period, it all sounded very exciting from here.

why on earth would he be trying to get pest control? He do realise once it's in the museums possession it probably won't be leaving. The there is no way he can claim ownership over the council.

I listened in for a bit, the big art expert rang a few of the big auction houses and galleries. Very much 'insider' stuff
I know another NYC guy who did some Banksy brokering with very much the same 'insider' technique, LOL

Let him try and get Pest Control. I hope he does. I'm sure the Boys clubs manager appreciated your expert art removal advice of having no other option other than to pry it off the council wall. The other option would of been to leave it alone. Lets hope he doesn't get prosecuted for stealing/vandalizing council property, not sure if you'd be fingered as an accomplice.

I also want the club to benefit from this, but do I give a f**k?. Not a chance. I have 4 kids 8 and under and I am loving playing footie, cricket , fishing etc during the school holidays. Nothing else matters. Especially a painting I don't want to own and would have loved for it to be permanently where it was placed. Does anyone know what Banksy wants unless they ask Pest Control ?. let them ask.

They were already going to remove it when I arrived, they had a carpenter on the way. I agreed it was the sensible thing to do. Now it seems it was as its heading to BM.

New Banksy?, by Unica on Apr 16, 2014 21:19:01 GMT 1, Apologies to all, especially Slammer if it came across as bullying. I just wanted to understand the logic. Not sure I can, so i'm happy to watch what happens to the piece. It could still end up at the Boys club, i'm sure if Banksy intended it to, it will eventually end up there.

Seems very harsh thing to say. Slammer is a top bloke. He was obviously trying to help. Whether you agree or not, your suggestion at the end of your post seems somewhat mean spirited to me. Just saying.
