WANTED-Banksy & Micallef, by 1800garrett on Dec 28, 2007 6:10:32 GMT 1, I live in the US. If I buy prints from the EU, sometimes I have to pay import taxes to good old Uncle Sam. I would like to avoid those if possible. Most small packages entering the US go through customs at one point or another, this is just another point in which the print could be possibly be damaged or stolen before arriving at its final destination. I could be wrong but don't foreigners buying prints from the EU not get charged a VAT. If a seller in the EU and in the US both have the same print and one payed a VAT, then the EU buyer has a higher initial purchase cost, therefore his resale price would be a little higher, right?

WANTED-Banksy & Micallef, by RBK on Dec 28, 2007 6:18:37 GMT 1, You can avoid paying import taxes a variety of ways. PM me if you want this advice.
The majority of the artists discussed on this forum works are in the EU - so you have just concede that is where the inventory is. If the value of the print demands it - just have the sender send it double-tubed (tube within another tube). You can also use Fedex, UPS for expedited/truly trackable shipping (I highly recommend against using DHL).
And just because their purchase cost may be slightly higher doesn't make much of difference. The 'going rate' is determined by the market, and the market of collectors is not geo-specific. Plus the pound is kicking the dollars ss anyways so our friends on the other side of the pond are already having an additional laugh
