As a personal preference- i'd prefer money to be used for the benefit of people who need it rather than greed and personal gain. IMO.

Banksy caught on video from the weekend., by Happy Shopper on Apr 16, 2014 14:47:07 GMT 1, It strikes me that this was placed by Banksy in a location that hardly anyone could find by chance, in a location too near a charity to be a coincidence... Easily removeable too, and up on his website as a kind of "Authenticity". Good luck to the Boxing Club. I think their best bet is to find a major auction house willing to sell it for them, or maybe even eBay!!

Banksy caught on video from the weekend., by Unica on Apr 16, 2014 14:55:47 GMT 1, How about if the piece was put in Bristol museum for viewing by the good people of the town, it would be a tourist attraction and bring people and new money to the town. Rather than benefiting a boxing club that nicked the piece in the first place from council property.

Banksy caught on video from the weekend., by Unica on Apr 16, 2014 15:13:41 GMT 1, I think the whole city of Bristol would enjoy seeing the piece if it was displayed in their museum, rather than benefiting a few people who like boxing. Come on now, we all know he stole it, give it back so the whole city can enjoy it. I just watched the BBC piece, and those people who turned up including a young boy were gutted that they couldn't see it.

"The work is believed to have been painted on a wall belonging to Bristol City Council. However, a council spokesman said he was unsure who actually owned the wall.
Mr Stinchcombe said if the local authority asked for it back he would refuse because "the council don't like graffiti".

It's a charity that helps kids/teenagers in need get skills and experience to get work, etc.
Banksy rarely does pieces randomly and has consistently helped charities though his work. If he just wanted people to enjoy the work on the street, or help Bristol Council, I'm 100% certain he'd have picked a more obvious location... and especially a less removable one.

I doubt Banksy researches the local businesses when he does a piece in the hope that one of them gets there first and yanks it off the wall to then charge people to see. From what i've seen he usually donates a piece with a COA or his time.. Haiti piece that Chris Martin bought, the charity shop in NY etc. I would think he chooses the placement of his piece because he likes the location and feels it would compliment the piece rather than who can get first to pry it off the wall. The mobile lovers work has nothing to do with boxing or the club, i'm sure if he wanted them to have it he would of sent it to them directly. Probably more than likely if the chap who nicked it auctions it off, it will never be seen again. A few kids will continue boxing, yes definitely a noble charity. Then again if the council who more than likely have a claim to it put it in the museum then thousands of people will enjoy the piece rather than some wealthy collector.
At the end of the day its about art and Banksy did a social commentary piece that is now hidden away in a gym after being on the wall for barely a day and is being enjoyed by no one other than the few people who now pay the guy who removed it from the wall.
It was meant to be seen by the public and so it should be.

Banksy caught on video from the weekend., by Stoko on Apr 16, 2014 15:52:03 GMT 1, I think its great that the club will get some cash that will benefit the community. And of course the Banksy publicity machine is being further oiled. In stealing this work the club has made it more talked about, therefore more famous, therefore more valuable.
Someone should get onto the club to do their own run of prints to raise money, then donate the piece to a museum or gallery where people can donate towards the running of the club.
And Banksy gets even more good publicity.

Of course we can only guess that Banksy did it in the hope the charity would benefit (or someone might benefit!)... it could just as easily have been taken by the second hand car shop next door !

Banksy caught on video from the weekend., by Deleted on Apr 16, 2014 16:08:56 GMT 1, Thats the thing with anything banksy does on the street its basically a lottery ticket, someone is going to take it and theres going to be a lot of media coverage/publicity. I'm sure banksys pretty aware if he nails a work to a door someones going to be off with it, any chance this could be a marketing ploy? I'm not saying it is but its long past banksy being able to do his street thing in the conventional way, it goes up ,it comes down or it gets tagged, whatever happens to it the world is being reminded of the impact and controversy banksy has brought to the art market.

The media would rather comment on so and so absconding with the "mural" (lol) for so many $$ rather than talk about the art itself.
It is much less "media worthy" if the art just sits there and is enjoyed by all. So in my opinion, he knows exactly where it is being placed and can guess well enough what it's final destiny will be.
