This is not a Banksy shirt., by BKBOI on May 7, 2014 20:11:05 GMT 1, i dont understand why people would want it, especially to wear. was great to see the video of it in new york. As something on your wall, or on your chest, really? People wear Justin Bieber shirts too and some have his poster on their walls.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by Deleted on May 7, 2014 20:12:57 GMT 1, I know, It's just I hold Banksy in pretty high regards (rightly or wrongly) because of the things he seems to believe in. Consumerism isn't one of them. This particular day in his BOTI jolly was one of my very favourites and I just don't like his work about animal issues just being used for this. I'm not sure what it is really. What does it symbolise to you guys buying them? Think of it as this being a way to spread that message, I would doubt that anyone who knows Banksys feelings on Animal welfare and Consumerism therein will think its just a van full of cuddly toys Happymeal, first thing people do is look for the meaning when he does something. I would like to think that anyhow.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by randomname on May 7, 2014 20:23:53 GMT 1, I'm not a vegetarian. For me, the message is about the treatment of animals when they're alive, more so than being anti-meat completely.
Personally, I buy my meat from Whole Foods, which rates their meat as follows:
Step 1 No crates, no cages Animals live their lives with space to move around and stretch their legs.
Step 2 Enriched environment Animals are provided with enrichments that encourage behavior that's natural to them — like a bale of straw for chickens to peck at, a bowling ball for pigs to shove around, or a sturdy object for cattle to rub against.
Step 3 Enhanced outdoor access Pigs, chickens and turkeys might live in buildings but they all — yes, each and every one of them — have access to outdoor areas.
Step 4 Pasture centered When living outdoors, chickens and turkeys get to forage, pigs get to wallow and cattle get to roam.
Step 5 Animal centered; all physical alterations prohibited At Step 5 the well-being of the animals is the primary focus; efficiency and economy are secondary.
Step 5+ Animal centered; entire life on same farm Animals raised to Step 5+ standards must be born and live their entire lives on one farm.
That said, I'm not an activist. At least not on this topic. Mostly I appreciate the humor and enjoy the message as I interpret it.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by Deleted on May 7, 2014 20:39:09 GMT 1, OMG ... how can you call yourself mr happymeal?!?... you cut up and eat the lovable cuddly toys you used to love, cherish and hug as a small child ... what is the matter with you !?!... or maybe that is why?!? He he...I of course used to eat meat ( sadly, fairly recently ) nobody told me not to, nobody told me to question it. I also used to be an art junkie consumer slave and still feel the pull of certain pretty pictures but I'm doing well and getting over it. Once the door is open you're free. It's just up to each person to find their own key and use it. I just can't help myself posting on certain issues and I don't want to keep coming across as a full-on vegan Nazi. Sorry. I'm still working on that bit. I don't mean to piss on randons shirt group. Just asking questions. My meals are indeed happy now. McDonalds Sucks! Peace love Freedom For All.

They do also sell great veggies.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by randomname on May 7, 2014 23:19:02 GMT 1, I got the quote. The higher quantity worked out to lower shipping per shirt. $19 should cover it.
I'm thinking I'll take payment on the shirts now and payment for the shipping after I get the shirts.
For those who ordered the BNE shirts, how much did he charge for shipping to England? My guess is he overcharged, but that will give people an idea of the most it would cost. If nothing else, I think the US Post Office offers a flat rate overseas envelope for $15.
Anyway, I'll start PMing people now with my Paypal info. Please include your address and shirt size with the payment. Send $19 if you send it as a gift. $20 should cover Paypal fees if you want to do a normal transaction. If you don't get a PM right away, it just means my job is getting in the way.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by Loobaz on May 7, 2014 23:43:15 GMT 1, Thanks for sorting this Randomname - I love the look of these and think it's a great way to perpetuate whatever Banksy intended with his truck.
As for shipping, I didn't order a BNE shirt, but my friend got 2 and the shipping was $16.75 to the UK. Obviously factor in extra for the packing materials and such, but hopefully that gives you an idea. BNE charged $20, so that part of his game wan't too messed up.
Also, do you have a brand for these, or a size chart we can check against? UK and US sizes do vary, so it'd be great to have some ideas before settling on a size, if possible.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by randomname on May 8, 2014 14:11:24 GMT 1, I have money for about half of the orders. I'll take money through Monday and place the order on Tuesday. But the sooner you get it in, the better. I'm doing this all manually, so I'll have to put together a spreadsheet this weekend to organize it.
I'll try to figure out shipping today if I have time at work. But I might hold off on taking payment until I have it all organized.
Also, be sure to include your shirt size with your payment. That's the easiest way for me to make sure you get the correct size.
They are US sizes. Here's a chart for reference. If you're borderline, I'd go with the larger size to be safe. I'm not a store, so no returns
Edit: Also, this particular shirt only comes in men's sizes. I'm planning on printing on heather gray, which is the color I used in the mock up of the front of the shirt.
2nd Edit: On the size chart, I believe the measurement is the cloth, not your chest size. So for example, I wear a 42 Regular suit, but an XL in most shirts. If you measure your chest, add a few inches unless you like a very snug shirt.
And one last detail. I just noticed the heather gray is 90% organic cotton, 10% poly, so it shouldn't shrink when washed. The other color options are all 100% cotton on this shirt.
Thanks.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by randomname on May 8, 2014 16:59:37 GMT 1, Some people have been asking about shipping costs, so I pulled some numbers from the USPS website. For U.S. orders, I'll send those 2-day priority mail. I can fit up to two shirts in an envelope. Looks like that should be $6. (Add 50 cents for paypal fees if you send as a normal payment.)
For international orders, priority mail is crazy expensive, so I'm going to do first-class mail on those. I'll have to run out and buy some large envelopes. Looking at office supply stores online, I think those will run about $1.50 each. Shipping is showing as about $17 to the UK and Germany. So figure about $18.50 for shipping. (Add $1 for paypal fees if you send as a normal payment.)
I'm guessing whatever envelopes I buy will also fit two shirts on international orders. If you buy more than two, I'll find a bigger envelope or small box to ship it in. It might cost a little more.
Please don't send shipping money yet. I want to get everything organized first. For now I just want to get the money for the shirts, so I don't go out of pocket.
I think that covers everything for now.

This is not a Banksy shirt., by Deleted on May 8, 2014 18:34:00 GMT 1, I did this as a joke, but now that I see it, I'm thinking about having it printed for real. I thought I'd gauge interest to see if enough people want one to put together an order. I'm guessing we'd need about 20 people at $20 each (plus shipping) to have them printed digitally. If the cost isn't too high, I'm thinking a nice, organic shirt. The shirt I used in the comp is the actual blank I have in mind. I'd sell them exactly for cost. So I think that fits within the spirit of Banksy's personal use policy. If enough people are interested, I'll get a quote from a print shop and see if it's feasible. Also, I added the line on the back myself. If I do it for real, I'll have a designer friend make it look a bit nicer. It's all very surreal.
Wouldn't it be better to get permission from Banksy to use his art on a T shirt even if it's non profit?
What about people who buy one and re sell it for profit etc?

This is not a Banksy shirt., by Deleted on May 8, 2014 19:43:49 GMT 1, just to point out - someone is making a profit on these - the printers. as much as we all hate consumerism, supporting an independant business is always a good thing. in this case:
-printers make some money -fans get a cool shirt -Banksy gets his message out -randomname gets some good karma and makes some new friends
don't see how anyone loses in this endeavor. except make cynics

Based on what I know of Bansky and copyright law, I didn't feel like permission was necessary. When he had his "store" on his old site, he posted hi-res images and encouraged people to take them to their local print shop and have them printed. So I think he's fine with people using his art for their own personal use.
We're essentially doing the same thing. Except with t-shirts, there are setup costs. For each of us to do just one shirt, they would cost $120 each. I don't think he'd mind us combining forces. An assumption, yes. But one I'm comfortable with.
On the legal side, we're covered by fair use on the grounds of: 1) The shirt is social satire, poking fun at the entire BNE fiasco, and the street art scene in general. At least that's the intent of "This is not a Banksy shirt." 2) It's not for commercial gain. 3) It has no effect on the potential market or value of the copyrighted work.
As far as people buying them and reselling them for profit, good luck with that. I don't see much of a secondary market for t-shirts some random guy made as a joke.
