Looks like UK members can claim to HMRC for around £40 in excess VAT.

Looks like UK members can claim to HMRC for around £40 in excess VAT. They informed me that I had the opportunity to receive the print also trough fedex or dhl paying about 9000 yen instead of 5000.. I am registered on fedex so I provided them my fedex code in order to pay the fedex bill at the moment of delivery, as they ask me to do. But the bill that I received from fedex is 17000 yen, not 9000. a very unprofessional behavior. I have written to them but they did not answer me. Don't you think tthey had to inform me on the price before shipping?

Import tax are apart; i paid about £70 as import tax at the delivery. the fedex bill of 17000 yen are for "transport costs" and "fuel supplement" . Print worth what I paid ; but their behavior was unprofessional. they do not reply to the email in which I ask an explanation. I think that before debiting a 100 pounds shipping to a client they should ask to the client if for him it is ok.

I think that before debiting a 100 pounds shipping to a client they should ask to the client if for him it is ok. I had the same issue, but got charged 20,000 Yen! Just like you, I emailed the gallery straight away. I did get a response though...
I emailed them and asked...
"Can I ask does it seem normal that I would have been charged so much by FedEx, 15,000 Yen more than your original shipping price of 5,000 Yen?"
and their response was...
"It was your choice to use Fedex and not ours.
"Original Shipping" is for the post office service. Depends on where you live, your post office service quality differs. Some people prefer Fedex/DHL for this reason. This is why we give people a choice for the shipping carrier."
Needless to say I was pretty unimpressed by the whole thing, and though that their response was inconsiderate and unprofessional. I was unaware that my location had anything to do with it, as I provided them my address before they gave me a shipping cost. Poor all round!
But I do love the print :-)

The problem is not the amount itself, but the fact that the gallery has not asked me to confirm if the real shipping cost was good or not for me. and if fedex had charged to us 100,000 yen?? they sent the print flat in a japanese origami style, without worrying about the size and how much I would have to pay on delivery. really unprofessional. but I love the print too.

It had to come flat surely as the paper used is super thick. Boarderline thin card.

No, the packaging was done really well, I just have not enjoyed the way they handled shipping service. in many countries to provide a price for a service to a client and then make him pay another is a fraud.

you would have had to pay whatever service you chose. and you should have told them the commodity code to write on the tube. you would have only been charged 5% then.

I'm not complaining about customs charges, those are another thing. I lament that they have not written to me before shipping "Hey, shipping costs for Fedex are £100, not £40 as we had written to you in the beginning, it is a problem for you?"
I paid the shipping charges a few days after delivery , through my fedex account (at the moment of delivery I paid customs charges: £70) . I paid £ 100, instead they told me that I would have to pay around £ 40 for the shipping; but I repeat, I do not care to have paid a little more, because I love Invader and I love this print. it's just that I did not like the gallery target behavior.

Invader • Astro Boy , Mona Lisa , Princess Peach , by oxomo on Jun 18, 2014 8:53:52 GMT 1, I think the issue with this, as humansucks says, is not the fact the charges through FedEx were high, but rather the lack of transparency by the gallery.
They quote the shipping fees as 5,000 Yen, then ask you for your FedEx/DHL account number, implying this is the only way they can ship it to you. Once provided, they ship it, and all of a sudden there is a charge of 20,000 Yen (in my case) debited straight out of my account through FedEx.
Clearly the way this was communicated was handled poorly, and by the fact that the gallery have had more than one person complain, it implies something was not clear.
To then dismiss their customers and blame us, is, in my opinion, poor customer service. Personally, I would expect better.

Invader • Astro Boy , Mona Lisa , Princess Peach , by vinylcoholic on Jun 18, 2014 9:40:31 GMT 1, I did get one Astroboy and am really happy with the print but for the rest I would describe my experience with them as a customer as extremely poor Part of it I am sure is due to cultural differences but in our global world they seem very uncomfortable dealing with ''gaijin's" I have experienced this 1st hand in Japan with small shops which is fair enough but if you want to do Urban Art with International Artists & clients then you might want to up your game a bit But as usual in Japan packaging was outstanding

Invader • Astro Boy , Mona Lisa , Princess Peach , by Deleted on Jul 4, 2014 15:29:38 GMT 1, I have just emailed target gallery. So will see what's happening. there is a crease running from top to bottom right in the middle of the print.
if your going to use so many layers of cardboard to flat pack somthing, they should have the lines in the cardboard running a differnt way on each layer not all the same way! Just bends as easy as 1 piece.

Invader • Astro Boy , Mona Lisa , Princess Peach , by Deleted on Jul 5, 2014 10:11:57 GMT 1, Well they just responded. They do not 'replace prints'
Therefore it's send it back for a refund (sounds like it's going to be a long thing too) or nothing.
Really gutted. Guess it's going back

Guess it's going back If that`s how they pack prints then im sure you wont be the only one who has had the problem. Sounds like you have no option but to send it back, if they have no prints to give replacements its a money back job, what a pain!! (hope they learn by the mistakes for next time!)
